well Nintendo did publish yokai watch games for the west so yeah... i guess nintendo is okay with it and glad that they didnt accused level5 on the games cuz similarities and pokemon fans raging for being a ripoff. i dont know, im bias.

Why are people in the comments comparing it to Pokemon? I think the design of the monsters (spirits) is fine. It seems like a game that both kids and adults will be able to enjoy.

All the pokemon fans complaining about this game and hoping it fails make me ashamed i even remotely like pokemon. pokemon is getting stale for me, and this looks super fun and i cant wait to have a refreshing take on the genre and dive into youkai watch

***** This game came out about 3 or 4 years ago. You can find this game in stores here in Japan for less than $10. Same with the 2nd one. The 4th one just came out a few months ago.

For those of you who are comparing this game to Pokemon, keep in mind that Pokemon is also a rip-off of another game (Dragon Quest V to be exact, which we didn't get in the west until the hideous and poorly aged DS remake came out), and that this game might just be better than Pokemon, you'll never know until you play...
hm? dose dragon quest have monsters you can collect? or are we taking about rpg mechanics? becuse its not a rip off just a adaptation of the base rpg mechanics.
This "mon" comparison will probably never end. I mean come on people! Nintendo allowed this game to be on 3DS, and same goes for other monster type games or series, like Digimon for a prime example. Just enjoy them for the popularity that they got. Is there really any rule that if you're a Pokemon fan, you're not allowed to play and enjoy another monster tamer game? What if it's another IP created by Nintendo, or Game Freak?

Ngl, Yokai watch is one the games with one of the best graphics for a 3DS game, and amazing story

People who can't stop drawing parallels to pokemon with this game are probably not every knowledgeable when it comes to Japanese culture. I honestly feel sorry for people who do that because it's ignorant to say this is just a rip-off.

I'm a long time pokemon fan and I got to say, this looks way better than ANY pokemon game. Pokemon hasn't really been on its high point and I think it's time we say farewell to the series.

I style for my friends The fanbase is constantly battling itself, the kanto fanbase vs the jhoto fanbase vs the hoenn fanbase vs the sinnoh fanbase vs the unova fanbase vs the kalos fanbase vs smogon vs the spinoff fanbases. The fanbase is constantly battling each other. I've ironically experienced more racism in pokemon than call of duty. Now they're attacking the potential yokai watch fanbase claiming its a ripoff even though pokemon itself is a ripoff of dragonquest V.
i am a pokemon fan and i dont think this is NOTHING like pokemon. Also i love how the anime is so funny and has characterdevelopment.Unlike so many in the comment section, no, i dont think it will overshine pokemon or anything, heck pokemon can reveal tommorow mega evos for johto starters and pkmn Z and overshine the world in an instant :P . The show and the whole approach of yokai watch is entirely differnet

Can't wait to get this game! My Japanese Pokemon friend got it and I realized it wasn't released in USA yet. I played the demo and figured out that it has some similarity to Pokemon: It has 8 tribes in which every other Yo Kai belong in similar to the 16 types were Pokemon belong in, too. My favorite character right now is Jibanyan! PAWS OF FURY!
I do hope this catches on well and dosent fade away like megaman battle network or zatch bell, two franchise I use to collect the cards/chips and played the games.
It's a craze in Japan so it should be around for awhile I like battle network as well but this game is a lot bigger then battle network was.

I was reading the comments and saw people saying this game was very popular in Japan. I looked it up and it's been out in Japan since 2013. So they've had lots of time to warm up to it. And I saw a crapload of merchandise of just the cat alone. The people who said it was popular were NOT lying...And now it's being released to the rest of the world. What better way to promote it than to have smash recognition?
If they put him in smash I would have no complaints. And I love random/obscure/wildcard characters. I already main DuckHuntDog for that very reason. I'd also main this guy no doubt.

Ugh... I'm a huge Pokemon fan who is feeling ashamed of the fanbase, why do people need to compare this two games? It's not like Pokemon is the only collectible monster game! You sound pretty stupid by saying so, like imagine if I go to an Earthbound video just to say "Ha, it looks like a crappy copy of Final Fantasy" just don't do it, this game has different mechanics, different monsters based on japanese folklore, different humor, different style and so on.

Gen 7 will likely not even look as graphically appealing as yo-Kai watch sadly. This game looks great for a 3ds game meanwhile XY and ORAS have frame rate problems and a not so impressive overworld compared to this game.
CEDL0W We NEED Pokemon versions for both 3DS and Wii U NOW. It's irritating for wannabe Poketubers that have to send themselves broke for a 3DS with a capture card.
