I tried the original demo. It was fun, but not appealing enough to shove its way into my massive wish list and backloggery.

it's sad that everybody think this is a ripoff and Pokemon isn't the first monster-catching game
I know right?! That honour goes to the very first entry of Shin Megami Tensei (1987) which was made before Pokemon. Sadly it didn't get released in the states. Yes, Pokemon was the first to make it to the states and bring the monster catching genre to kids, but it wasn't the first game of its kind.
Even then, obtaining and battling things is just a thing in Japan. Insects are one thing I can think of.
This game deserves so much more attention ;-;

I think the gameplay looks great, considering it's more involved, but I don't really like a majority of the designs. Just a personal opinion, buy I also battle Pokemon competitively, so I don't think most people who do would enjoy this.

Yo-kai Watch is not going to harm Pokemon’s long standing popularity. Pokemon’s fan base is huge, with the original fans still playing the games and supporting the franchise well into adulthood. They will continue to play the games and support Game Freak in the production of new and future games. They can coexist. While it doesn’t look like YW has the popularity in the west (at least so far), they are attempting to do different things. It’s not an either/or situation. Yo-kai Watch has its own identity and charm that makes it stand out from Pokemon, yet the game still receives negative commentary from the Pokemon community which is not yet familiar with the game. Why some pokémon fans make an attempt at causing the failure of another franchise - and succeed to a degree. Pokemon and Yo Kai Watch can coexist on Nintendo systems.... 😑😧

I love that you can have other yokai follow you rather than just Whisper. Now if only Pokemon would bring that back.

They are. What took 3 hours to get one rare yo-kai in the first game now takes like 30 minutes to an hour at most.
Don't worry, the game has a new feature that allows you to hit a sweetspot on the yo-kai, giving you a higher chance to befriend them.

Even the creator of this game wants this to be a big hit in the states. Maybe if everyone wasn't calling it a Pokemon rip-off and getting on their hands and knees wishing for mother 3 then maybe the creator can get his wish.

I don't understand why people call this a Pokemon rip-off, the battle system is different, the encounter system is different, the catching system is different, the way the story is played out is different,the way the monsters are designed is different, the only thing I can say is the same is the genre (Monster-catching RPG), the games are very different and when people call Yo-kai Watch a Pokemon rip-off, I question if they even played Yo-kai Watch, because if you did you would understand how very different the games are.
because those people are worried that games like yokai watch and digimon are going to have higher fanbases than pokemon which doesn't even make sense. most of them haven't played the game or stopped playing so quickly that they don't even experience the core mechanics of the game.

Everyone ranting about Mother 3: Your rage is idiotically misdirected. Level 5 has nothing to do with the Mother series, and Nintendo doesn't tell HAL what to publish. So why direct your complaints at them? It's pure lunacy.
This looks so much better than the first one. I love how it introduces Yo Kai like in the TV show and how Jibanyan follows you at all times.
Actually you can choose what yo-kai follows you in this game.

Pokéfanguy I saw many youtubers play it.. When you go to the main character's room in the beginning of the game, whisper will explain to you about switching out your "walking Yo-kai".

The first Yokai Watch was great and I've been so hoping to get this overseas! So hype!
Pokèmon fanboys are not very intelligent creatures. Here we see them stepping out of their habitat. The Native creatures are complaining about why a game is a ripoff of their precious Pokèmon just because it has monsters in it and the second one has two versions. Ironically, a lot of the Native creatures are fans of Fire Emblem but they don't say anything about it having multiple versions. These creatures are very unintelligent and will often attack anything they think is bad without stopping. They won't accept the existence of other things that find these things that they "hate" enjoyable. They're natural defense is to comment something like "kill ur self" and it's very effective because they think it's effective, thus making them happy. They mostly live in America and they're often edgy teens or immature man children who think they are super cool.
I laughed at how true this is. Why cant pokemon fans see that these 2 games are completely different

im just hopin they can pull off a yokai watch 2 again with the future yokai watch 4, as in they make yokai based off of the legends/mythical creatures/spirits here in the US, just like in yokai watch 2 most of the new yokai are more based on real yokai (im hopin for yokai to be based off the likes of Mothman, Chupacabra, Totem poles, skin walkers, Bunnyman, Melon Heads, Wendigos, Native ant People from pueblan folklore etc, and for the likes of Sitting Bull, George washington Carver and Elvis to appear as legendary yokai, just like some of the current Merican legendary yokai are based off of other real life people ( aka Charles Darwin and Thomas Edison, yes this is confirmed).
As do I, I would LOVE a Jersey Devil yokai, that would RULE!

I would like to try and play Yokai Watch someday. At first I was closed minded with the idea, but now I would like to play it.
This game in no way interferes with the localization of Mother 3, so everyone can stop their witch hunt while they are ahead.

It was released like, three or four years ago in Japan. And it's only gonna be a competitor with Pokemon in the eyes of people who see it as such. I love both series to bits, but I and many other fans of yo-kai watch, admit that in the end, yo-kai watch could never truly rival Pokemon.

2014 for JPN, (amost a year after the 1st one)... later there were a 3rd ver of this and 3 spin offs (Busters 2+1 versions, a Just Dance game & the other medieval era game).

Despite being a long fan of Pokemon (for as long as I can remember), I am far more excited for YW2 than I am for Sun and Moon. Not to take anything away from Pokemon, though. Still am hyped, just nowhere near as much as YW2.
