This is the FDM printer I;ve been waiting for. If like me, you love the idea of 3D printing larger things, but cannot be bothered with all the technical hoo-ha of setting one up. then just like me, you will love this! Just bought one for £399 from an Amazon Flash sale, printed 10 things so far, never a 3d printer before, got printing within 20 mins of opening the box. No failures so far and minuscule amount of waste. Incredibly impressed so far.
That is one gorgeously designed and well thought out printer. I'm impressed.

things i look forward to them adding to this. 1) bigger plate (300x300x400 seems to be the best size for stability) 2) built-in enclosure (to allow for better and safer prints, especially if you go for ABS and the like) 3) AMS system (with the simple yet brilliant ways they made improvements, i can't wait to see how THEIR version of the AMS system would look like!)
What a superbly put together video! I know nothing about 3D printers but now I feel compelled to learn more. To be honest, I was sold as soon as I saw the Master sword, but I’m now intrigued. Also, great to see you again on Saturday 👍🙂

If this was $100-150 dollars cheaper it would be in the running for me but seeing as the competition are putting out this class of printer that are easy to set up. Look relatively decent and are kind of automatic and getting as close to plug and play as we can right now but cheaper it's hard to justify this over the competition especially when the competition has advantages over this printer for lower cost. The P1P is $100 cheaper and while we lose out on AI we can add time lapes for about $30, have auto bed leveling and can modify it to be able to to ABS/ASA for about the same price as the ankermake m5. Not to mention you have the option of adding AMS. And from everything I've seen its a really easy to set up printer that is really easy to use without the need to fiddle with it to get good results just like this machine. Then for $200 less you can get the K1 and it seems to be targeting the same ideas with easy setup and useablity without having to be a tinkerer to get things to work and the AI first later and the time lapes and autobed leveling and can print ABS, ASA etc. While I would want more 3rd party verification after it actually hits the market both of them undercut the m5 but a significant amount while having additional features that the m5 doesn't have.
Whilst you are right on your points It comes down to the ecosystem you feel aligns with you most maybe? Ankermake where a bit later to the party than the other players. But personally ive really appreciated a couple of aspects of their approach and maybe Im bias as i got my m5 for KS early bird backer prices. but the community that has formed around this one printer is top tier, where i seen it said some others can sometimes been somewhat exclusionary. That and the CS support has been incredible dealing with replacement parts under warranty for something that was partially my fault.
As William said, it really depends on what you want from a printer. i would be happy to pay this difference for someone to take most of the headache away for me.
there's no poorly translated menus and complex options.
Choose Simple Mod in the slicer and it is just that... simple.

It's nice that linear advance and input shaping is leveraged out of the box, but I hope they'll add a 300mm build area version later on.
I've got the ankermake m5. I use it all the time and love it. Plus you get lots of firmware updates that keep improving it through the on screen interface via built in wifi. You can pause it and change filament colour for multi colour printing.
That is one cool looking printer and that sword looks amazing 🙂

Reading through the comments and I just don't get all the hate towards this printer.
I got my M5 in the kickstarter and I absolutely love it. It is just so easy to use.
You've hit the nail on head when you said that you're paying for the convenience and I am glad I did.
I got a good deal in the kickstarter but having used it for 7 months I would happily pay the current retail price for this printer.
I know, I think people need to use it to truly understand, and maybe I’ve not done a good enough job of promoting it in the way it is awesome.
But also, a lot of FDM users have gone through the rite of passage with the various printers over the years doing all the different tweaks. The simplicity of this spits in the face of all that effort and after they have put so much work in, perhaps wonder why should people be able to just come in and print without going through the same trials.
This isn’t for everyone, and I get that. But if you want no hassle, plug and print. This is that.
There are better printers, there are faster printers. I know of no easy printers in comparison to this
I seems to mostly be the p1p users that are upset that their printer can't be called the clear winner without any exceptions. The idea that someone would pay 100 dollars more for slightly worse hardware but better experience is very upsetting to them. They feel that you are supposed to suffer to some degree with 3d printing sort of like the first internet users. I am worried that if you tell them that the sale price of the p1p and the m5 are both 599 and they might blow a gasket.
I believe usability is going to be the big differentiator going forward. As printing goes more mainstream and is leveraged by hobbyists who don't love to tinker for the sake of tinkering, using a machine that runs out of the box and provides the quality of life features will be recognized.
I have an old Ender 3 Pro with a Micro Swiss extruder, and while I'm ok building and flashing my own firmware manually there's no way my friend who just wants to 3d print gaming terrain would tolerate that. When i got my Mars 3 Pro i was blown away by how well it just worked. Nothing flashy or special, just leveled the bed, ran a few calibration cones and that was it. It's still running without failure with only a single FEP change and plate re-leveling. It's a breath of fresh air to use.
I like your 2d printer analogy. My summary has been "when they stop being projects themselves and just become a tool."
That's why I love the Duet board in my Ender 3, I can control everything from my phone or PC, heat the nozzle, bed, do the levelling, raise and lower. Slice and then send to the printer

@@omegadeepblue1407 mainly software issues, hopefully they can resolve it but some people are seeing an issue with the extruder stripping filament at higher speeds. Not sure it’s worth the money when you have the likes of p1p.

I guess so. this is one where I haven't really watched other reviews and fully formed my own opinion. perhaps I should have learned the history. or they''ve solved the software issues.
Cura it has options to show how much time it will take to print even on my original ultimaker works. You just have to add it yourself, it's called "display progress on lcd"
Cura isn't on my printer, It's on the pc. I mean this gives a live readout of he remaining time where most other printers say elapsed time - like that's useful.
I've seen a lot of people compare 3D printers with 2D printers on usability, and I think that's an unfair comparison. 2D printers are far less complex. They can run out of paper, run out of ink or have a paper jam. Nothing else can go wrong in normal operations. (and yet they are still the bane of existence for office IT guys). You're not going to run into issues like "Oh, no! The ink had stuck to the page at the beginning of my print, but all the e's fell off half way thru!"
3D printing requires a level of expertise that the average consumer doesn't have. The M5's training wheels lower the barrier to entry, but if a user needs that level of hand-holding, they're going to get a rude awakening when things start going sideways as it will at some point with even the best printer.
The M5 would have been a game changer 2-3 years ago. But all of its real ground-breaking features were available to smoosh on to cheaper printers before it released, and Bambu Lab beat them to market with a printer that implemented the same features and more. For example, try printing glow-in-the-dark filament on the M5 and you're going to have a bad time because (as far as I can tell), the M5 doesn't have a hardened nozzle. Try printing ABS and you'll get the same warping you will with a $200 Ender 3 clone. You can't print any engineering filament like PEEK, nylon or PC.
With the Bambu Lab X1-C Carbon (and even the P1P) on the market, the M5 looks very expensive considering what its missing.
I don't know what it's missing since I don't have the Bambu labs printer. But i don't think it's an unfair comparison at all. though that depends what you want.
We are moving to a 3D printing future where we have 5 fillaments in a printer. Black, White, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. We can choose a model and press Ctrl+P and you get a full colour render of whatever the mdoel is.
just like 2D printers there will be some quality options like there are now on the Pixma Pro i showed as comparison. and different settings based on the type of medium (paper) you choose.
This is the closest I've seen to that yet. It cuts so much of the guff out for the everyman, that it makes 3D printing far more accessible. for me, that time saved in slicing and re-slicing and testing can be better spent.
I get that this is not for everyone. But I would argue that it is more for anyone than the printer that have come before.
If one can compare the experience that just shows how simple the manufacturer made the process. Yes the two complexities are at different levels but if you are able to compare one company but not the other that gives the company you can compare a huge advantage.
The community still has this mindset that 3d printing "Can't be easy" and seems to be visibly upset at the anker for it. But I suppose gatekeep is a real think in every hobbyist community. I bought the ankermake on kickstarter and a print and go experience is what I have had. People understand you can't put any paper into a 2d printer its not as hard a concept that you make it out to be. Also they both cost 599 on sale.
@@dannonyogurt98 There's no anger at the anker. It's just a printer. There's nothing particularly special or threatening about it. Being angry at the Ankermake is like being angry at the original iMac.. it's the same idea. It's the same hardware in a pretty package with a pretty wrapper around the software with a pretty upcharge. If those things are important to you, you can pay the upcharge. I don't see why that would hurt anyone's feelings.
It's not gatekeeping to say that 3D printing requires some degree of technical knowledge. When you put standard copy paper into a 2D printer, you don't have to run tests to make sure the paper will print the same way as every other brand you've used. If you use photo paper, you don't have to worry about it warping if your room isn't the right temperature or worry about off-gassing toxic fumes. You don't have to know that certain paper will wear out your rollers because, even though it looks like normal paper and prints like normal paper, it's actually sandpaper. And when was the last time a 2D printer burned down a house?
When you compose a document for 2D printing, it will print as it is shown on your screen. You don't have to think about adding ink that you'll later remove to make sure the other ink prints the way you want it to. And you can actually compose your own documents with no extra knowledge other than the ability to spell and open Notepad.
@@paulpardee I didn't say angry I said upset, nor did I say say it was logical but that never stopped anyone before. Its funny that you bring up Mac as apple is the constant target of actual nerd rage for being too easy (aka for ignorant people).
I can also guess you're relatively young and have no clue the headache that 2d printing used be. All of those things were issues with the first generation of 2d printers and needed serious calibration. I remember at lockheed we had on call calibrating as part of the warranty and services package for the office printer. Something you don't need today, most printers can do it themselves. The only valid complaint would be fire and fumes with some filament (more of an irritant really) but that is more of an issue with the industry. Paint and printer ink used to have lead and that could be aerosolized just by dropping it. But due to mass adoption forced them to figured out a way around it. When is the last time an electrical fire happened with an appliance? All the time but 3D printer is going to make the news like a EV. Regular cars catch fire all the time but it would be pointed out that it was an EV fire not just a car fire. Its not hard to avoid most of those issues with a single sentence for anker make users "stick with PLA" boom done. Not to mention that even today there are types of 2D printing that require a knowledge base but most people don't care and stay in their lane.
Telling someone it helps to have technical knowledge is not gatekeeping. Running off a literal list of all the issues why someone should stay away is... *ahem*
I grew up pre internet, trust me when I say I know what gatekeeping looks like with emerging technologies.
Countdown timers have been in printers from the manufacturer since at least 2020, Anker is not nearly the first to offer one on a consumer printer, I understand that you enjoyed this feature a great deal and perhaps most resin printers don't come with a timer but all three of my FDM machines do and none of them is newer than 2021.
I'm sure all prusa printers have this. Even older ultimakers. Bambu Lab has timer as well. Seems like just the cheaper makes don't have this basic feature.
My first time… they should all do it. Telling me elapsed time is useless
Seems pricey for what you get (better-looking machine and a countdown timer). Not trying to heckle or be a d*ck, but I don't really see where the extra value-for-money is here.
There isn't any. Just buy a Neptune 3 Pro or one of those Anycubic Kobra ones, apparently they're good too but I've not used them myself. 800 is absurd.

The value is in it being close to being plug and play. Not everyone wants to have to worry about leveling and dialing in settings and just want something that works with minimum setup because their hobby isn't printing its using the things printed. that's what the M5, P1P, K1 etc offer. Basically the value is time saved.

Did you have any issues with bed leveling? I always seem to struggle with getting my printer to handle the gradual warping of the build plate after a few hundred hours of printing.
no issues at all. i chose level as part of the out of box setup and never levelled it since.

they don't as far as i am aware. but I honestly don;t see the draw... maybe i;m missing out becasue FDM is not my wheelhouse, but they look like expensive toys that i;d need to fiddle with just to get my first good print.
It's very nice and has good reviews but I have moved on to corexy with the Voron machines. Bed slingers just no longer appeal to me. Nice review and if I didn't move into corexy machines this would have been my choice.
Sadly my wife and I just got into 3D printing just before all these new printers started coming out. We bought a Biqu BX from BigTree Tech. It's an OK printer. Take a Ender 3 and add some upgrades and that's what you get. If we'd waited just 2 months I likely would have been buying this exact printer instead.
Don't feel too upset. Pick up a Neptune 3 Pro or the new Kobra. A countdown timer is not worth 500 bucks extra, and both of those printers are user friendly and very detailed
@@alertedcoyote7892 I'm using OctoPrint so I have a nice countdown already. I happen to like a lot of Anker's products though and know how good their support is. On the other hand the Biqu BX was designed to have Octoprint built in, but the manufacturer abandoned it and I've had to get it going with the newest version by figuring everything out myself rather than having good clear directions. It's a nice printer, and I have it dialed in and working well at this point. It's just taken a lot of learning to dial it in and get settings that work well for me. So no massive regrets.
We're also doing miniatures on FDM which isn't the best results due to the layer height and lines. It's hard to get them to come out well. For that I wish we'd gone resin, but I'll likely buy a resin printer in a few months.
I hear you, this is a great printer for plug & print. don;t feel too bad, I'm sure this will be trumped before long. and it is good you cut your teeth on something that needs a bit more tweaking.

@@FauxHammer Nice thanks! I've been drooling at the GK2 since I have a detached garage I'd need to put it in (it runs between 0 to 20 degrees C here in the winter). The heated chamber is huge, and the attention to detail in their design is clearly there. German engineering, go figure :)
I am happily a highly technical guy, so I'm actually considering modding my existing printer and am reading through a guide someone wrote about installing clipper on the same make/model (I would have to upgrade the extruder too). Cutting my teeth on this thing has been fun.
You like that this is the only printer where they tell you how long it takes for a finished print, klipper does this?

I've never seen it before, but it's just a small part of the whole package. that being, this is a simple and intuitive, easy 3D printer.
It's not for everyone, if you want to tinker and play. maybe this isn't for you. but if you want easy. yeah, this is ace!
When I tried to print that 17 minute Benchy it got thrown off the bed pretty quickly. I didn't try to print another one but I may still. I'm curious.
Probably just need to scrub the bed down with some warm water and dawn dish soap, it can get pretty dirty sometimes.
Try using the glue stick that you can buy for 3d printing. Do it once and it lasts ages. Never had problems since.
Hi, I have been watching your vids on FDM printers and thought I was sold on your last review of the any cubic Kobra 2. However seeing this one I am now conflicted but there is a large cost difference between the two so is this worth the extra investment?
No. Get the Kobra. 800 is insane
This is my question too. The Kobra 2 review was gushing. This printer is what, 2.5 to 3 times the price and likewise gets a gushing review.
How do we, the folks watching these reviews, understand the difference?
So, Kobra 2 works and is fine. But I want to applaud what Anker have done in the Ui to make this simpler. Many people still find the typical slicers quite cumbersome with all the various settings, it takes ages to learn what settinsg do what.
now with the anycubic, It worked with the fillament I used and my peintes were justfine. us ethe sme fillament as me and i;m sure you'll have a solid experience.
butWhat Anker have done here is make a prettier printer. the OSD is designed so beautifully and intuatively. as is their easy mode in the slicer. even the expert mode is better laid out than base cura.
You also have an equally clean and intuitive mobile app.
If you want the bare bones simplest user experience, with wifi printing and mobile monitoring. Get this.
if you are happy to learn a ton of slicer settings. move back and forth between your printer and pc with an SD card. and keep checking the print manually for failures. save the money and get the Kovbra 2

What a weird remark on that timer ... Marlin has all the various options for rendering the time remaining, total time, etc. built in for ages. Klipper can even show you way more info on the time to go (as estimated by the slicer and separately as estimated by Klipper), amount of filament to go, etc.
I'm still a beginner FDM printer, this is aimed at people like me. I;ve never seen it before. and I suppose I;m talking specifically to Anycubic, Elegoo and Creality on this point. they all show elapsest time. none I;ve seen so far show remaining.
@@FauxHammer You are correct. Most all of the comments around this has been here for ages is because well technically it has but you have to know where to find it and enable it. For those that cut their teeth on the diy kits and understand modifying the g-code a lot of these features have been around forever. Just not readily available to the masses.

800 bucks for an FDM printer is not a reasonable price, it's daylight robbery. That same price would get you an FDM printer, a Resin Printer AND a wash and cure setup. 800 bucks should immediately preclude someone from buying this thing.
Because cheap FDM printers are so reliable...
Like he said in the review, not everyone wants a dirt cheap machine that works some of the time, needs tinkering, needs settings dialed in, etc... yes this is more expensive, but it's pretty much plug and play like most products should be. It's not for the same buyer that wants to spend nothing and constantly work on printers, it's for someone that simply wants to print stuff and doesn't mind paying extra for that convenience.
Genuine question; anycubic Kobra 2 is significantly cheaper. Is this significantly better?
i think other people have made my point for me in reply. but it depends what you want. i want simple and working. and I'd pay the difference for it. if that's not you. cool. You gotta pick what is right for you.
@Tom Denyer different benefits. that is cheaper but you will need to learn a few slicing settings and stuff. the slicer is not the most intuitive and can be daunting to many people. i;d say have a play with one forst for free to see if you can get your head around it.
But Anker has simple mode, which is just that. simple.
everything from the application, Ui, the OSD and the phone app are so cut down to the necessetries only. youc an unlock that extra tweaking power if you wish. but if you want to buy a printer that is literally, install the app. load a model, click print.

Love all your vids (this one included) but have to disagree bro. This printer is clearly not the printer of 2023, not even close. Over priced, lacking features, not faster than an elegoo 4, less detail than bambu, no heated enclosure at the price, bed slinging, and Eufy/ankers security missteps from the past year, also Anker has been overly controlling of other reviewers feedback. This printer will be considered basic by the end of the year. IMO it's a great printer for beginners who want to regret their purchase in a few months... that’s the end of my shots fired, sorry not sorry Anker
That’s fair enough. I’m very much the Everyman with FDM 3D printers. If they make it easier, I’m sold. I loved everything about this. The way that have integrated it to WiFi and the app is so user friendly, I’ll happily pay the premium.

Yeah, it would’ve stolen the show had the competition not seriously stepped up their game. For a relatively major manufacturer like Anker to have so many stiff alternatives really says a lot about the 3d scene right now. Bambu, Elegoo, Anycubic, Sovol, Qidi and even snapmaker are all at this price point or below. Anker needs to drop it to at least 499 and get back in the game with another model

Anytime there is a needed app with a product I assume I'm actually only renting it...Hard pass for me.
Ive had the M5 since october and the app isnt actually required to use the printer it just makes it easier, all of the functions can be controlled via the touch screen of the printer and you dont even need an internet connection to print you can either use a USB or print locally over a network even if it does not have internet.
Well I guess that's great news. Still not my cup of tea.
But I'm that guy who still refuses to use cloud storage.

yeah it's not required. but because i used the Creality app, I wanted to point out how clean and well done this app was compared to that dumpster fire.
Be careful running PETG in this printer, it has a PTFE lined hotend.
Is that bad?
@@FauxHammer PETG is usually ran at near 260C, that is hot enough for PTFE to release formaldehyde gas (known carcinogen).
Printing very fast is a bad idea for consumer grade 3D printers, no matter technology. You will always compromise quality and/or material properties.
Agreed, slower = better quality. but of the faster printers out there. his does what i;d expect for the chosen speeds.
800$, no linear rails, belt changing and other servicing procedures are complicated by desighn.

The fact that this printer is 2x the price of the last FDM printer you reviewed makes me distrust your review process. At this point, it seems like anyone can send you a printer and if it's easier and faster then the last one you reviewed it'll get a "Best FDM Printer I've ever used" tag or similar. Given they are giving you these printers for free also makes me rethink your advice. If you aren't taking price into consideration, then normal consumers like us really can't trust your advice as you are ignoring a major factor of purchasing products. What ever happened to the guy that said, "I can be quite happily patient, so long as it results in a high quality print", when referring to print speed and the wolverine bust.
Maybe. Just maybe this is a miniature guy that dabbles in 3D printing rather than the other way around. Maybe he sees value in not having to waste time troubleshooting and dialing it in. Probably like someone that likes an automatic car rather than a manual car because gosh darn it is a tool to get from point A to point B. Like the most valuable thing any of us have is time and if it saves a couple hours when he could be doing something else that I enjoy more it has more than made up for the price.

It's super that the printers are good but we are trying to work out what the right decision is.

I liked the Neptune 3's as they were my first FDM printers. the Creality Ender 5 S1 was my first core XY. The Neo just worked and at such low layer heights.
I've only had a few FDM modules and each has been better than the last. Excluding the QIDItech X-Plus 3 which did not work no matter what i did. it was awful to play with and I said just that - I then got a ton of crap off people telling me I'm wrong. (theyn they discontinued that machine when another reviewer proved it was fundamentally broken)
with this one, they have shown me, everything I want. that may not be what you want. but what this one gave me. was a printer that is so simple, easy and intuative that I prefer this to every other printer I've had before it.
With most other printers I've had to play around with settings to dial them in, or twealk something or even just constantly move back and forth to do test prints and check them. Becasue this was wifi with a simple UI. it saved me so much time that I had extra to go and play about with more than I normally would.
The way they deliver "how this works" removes such a huge barrier to entry that most FDM printers suffer from. If you are happy to tinker a bit to get they best out of your printer. You'll see little benefit here. if you just want it to work, and work well. this is the one for you.
@@MaheerKibria Maybe I want the same thing and have zero exp with 3d printing, so I'm trusting people like this to be a good reviewer. I now own a Kobra 2 and it is perfect IMO as a budget newbie printer to start with. Advising the Anker to a new person is just insane given the price point. All the features that make 3d printing are easily found in lower priced models now. Your point is valid, but I think you are ignoring a lot of what I outlined and seem to be just a fanboy making a defense that the creator already has.
@@FauxHammer You and Maheer must be fan buddies as his answer ignored many of my points. You also don't even know what printers you have. You reviewed the Kobra 2...not the Kobra Neo 2 weeks ago. Plus you even say in that review "Kobra Neo" so not really sure what is going on here, but I'm now confused. Which is a similar feeling when I watched this video and comparing it to the Kobra 2 review.
In the Kobra 2 review video you said speed doesn't matter if the prints come out good. That is the guy I'm referring too, as that guy is long gone in this video and what has replaced him is a guy that is now concerned with speed. I'm just happy the Kobra 2 is great and a perfect entry level into the hobby. I will no longer watch you vids as you have proven to be just a guy and not someone that is actually knowledgeable about 3d printing. This may not bother many, but given many people come to youtube for advise putting titles like you have on your videos is just click bait and I don't condone to that method. Good day good sir :)

way to expensive printer. despite the nice look its just another bedslinger with a lot of flaws. what i dont get is the amount of commercial videos the so called influencers do for this printer. looks like anker paid a lot for it.
I didn't get paid squat for it, Like every review, I got the printer, that's all. believe me or don't but my other videos should prove my legitimacy.
i had no flaws. Anker have made 3D printing simpler and I'd pay the premium for that.
I'd make a similar comparison between Apple and Android. The latter is your typical FDM printer. they work well and for the same spec are cheaper, but there's often some fiddling you need to do. This is more iPhone. Premium casing, simpler interface, just works.
I totally understand that is not for everyone, but for those who want this simplicity, and are happy to pay the premium. this is the one.
@@FauxHammer thank you for the apple comparrison. if you want to pay more for less with a shiny cover thats ok. just an example of the other cheap android printers, the elegoo neptune 3 max and neptune 3 plus cost together the same as your apple ankermake and are assembled as fast as your shiny little printer. they are very reliable and great printers and are way easier to be repaired if needed than your completely covered metalbox. even the new kobra 2 and the neptune 4 pro are way less expensive and do the same job, maybe a better one, than your ankermake. your whole review just gives the impression of a sales show that has been paid for. but its ok, many other youtubers do the same crappy reviews just to get more printers gifted from garbage companies. and by the way, you have paid nothing for this thing. so dont say its a good bargain, it is not for all the others who are gonna pay for it.
Nearly £800??? WTF?? For a FDM printer? buy a resin printer instead.
depends what you are wanting to print tbh, resin just isn't a good choice for some prints, for example would your print the sword seen here in resin? xD
@@anab0licYeah, fdm has it's advantages, is great for structures, i prefer resin when i want something with X-treeeeeeme detail but if i want to build a structure or a robotic part i prefer going for fdm.
For 800 bucks, buy an FDM printer, a Resin Printer, and a Wash and Cure station too.
or buy a good other fdm printer less expensive like the new kobra 2 or the neptune 4 pro. they are both way cheaper and better than this shiny abomination.
depends what you want to print. i would not have made this master sword on a Resin printer.
get an mk3 prusa and then compare quality yea this looks great but looks don't work hard I have had my mk3 since day 1 of 2018 its still going strong and it's now a mk3s+ soon to be mk3.5 atb
honestly, the looks of the pusa put me off. I looks like I'd need to platy about with it tons just to get it to work. I put off doing nozzle swaps on these things because I just don't want to muck about with them at all.
This is not for everyone, but it's the one for me.
