    I have a 2000 Sebring JX Convertable and you don't know how much I appreciate you doing these videos! I am single and its hard to find the extra money to have someone fix my car when something breaks, but with your help here I can fix it myself for the most part. Thanks again!!!

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! The 5th fuse, in my case, was an EXCELLENT tip!!! I replaced the battery and alternator and the next morning my car was completely dead! There was a parasitic drain, and this helped me passed that until I can find the time to pinpoint the source. And I am not a mechanic, so thank you once again!!!

    Thanks... Problem solved. Disconnected modular for air vents because all the air was going to the window defrost and I live in vegas so I disconnected it moving wires around and my interior lights, radio, alarm, door locks and power mirror stopped to work.
    Checked all fuses for items all good till you said about the middle one. it was broken. Thanks for your help saved me a lot. Take care. Nick

    Change the starter relay and start fuze to eliminate those possibilities (they are very inexpensive). Make sure you can turn the engine over by hand. The main other common fail point is the ignition switch in the steering column. It is easy to change and cheap (under $30) but you need a security torx socket (about $8 a set) for some screws. The starter circuit is pretty simple. Also check the battery resting volts. Full charge is 12.7. It needs 12.1 start. Clean Every ground & connection.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also make sure the light on the rearview mirror is not on. It will not shut off automatically. That seems to happen more often that expected. You can check for parasitic drain at the battery itself with an amp meter. Read the gauge and pull one fuse at a time until you find the source.

    If you are talking about the positive stud that goes into the Power Distribution Center then that part needs to replaced. It is basically a main wiring harness and only available through junk yards. I don't know any work around other than maybe epoxy (as long as it makes good electrical contact inside).

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Instrument cluster lights are Fuze 7 (20 amp yellow). If you have only a problem with just the instrument lights, it may be elsewhere other than the fuze. Sometime the switch goes bad or it accumulates dirt inside. Try moving the cluster light switch a lot and see if the lights come on.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, I read every post. The simple thing would be to check for spark for a cheap spark tester. If you have no spark, commonly the distributor is suspect. Let me say it is "common" but not always the reason for ignition failure. You may want to check my video on changing the ignition coil if you want to do that the cheap way. If that part is the original it would be a good idea to change it anyway. They sometimes fail without any warning.

    Tach and milage on instrument panel is well documented as being overheated resistors on cluster panel board . look for "brown" resistors in corner of board and resolder contacts. works almost every time 15 min. job. Worked on both my sons and my 1997 sebring convertibles

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fuse 11 (Red , 10 amp) located on the left side of the dashboard under the access cover is for the instrument cluster. But it may not be a fuze but rather a bad ground or the Body control module. The Black/Light green wire off of the "C1" red connector on the back of the instrument cluster is the ground. You may need a wiring diagram to trace the problem. It may not be simple, but then it may just be a matter of replugging in the connectors on the back of the instrument cluster.

    There are 2 motors in each seat, so nothing is working you could assume that you may not be getting power to the seat. One of the connectors under the seat has a red and black wire. Red for power an black for ground. Check those. The power seat are not wired though the BCM (Body Control Module) so the BCM would not be the cause. Also check that fuze you replaced with an ohm meter to make sure it did not blow again. If that happened then you have a short someplace.

    On a 2006, I don't know. That info is in the owners manual and easy to find. On the old Sebrings it's on the left side of the dash. An access panel when you open the drivers door.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No. 8 fuze, 20 amp Yellow, Located inside the car on left side of the dash. You need to open the driver side door and pull off the panel on the side of the dash.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure. Possible to maybe spray something in the mechanism. These seat are actually not cheap to replace because a lot of people use them for older classic cars that need seat belts. Not sure why it would be totally jammed up.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That type of problem (intermittent) is tougher to solve. It could also be fuel related. Try adding 2 cans of Seafoam fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. If the fuel filter was partially clogged that should clean out the junk temporarily. If solves the problem then have the fuel pump tested for pressure. This would be the 1st thing I would try since it is easy & cheap. It could also be an intermittent problem with either the CPS or distributor. No codes are being thrown?

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    P302 code mean the number 2 cylinder has a misfire. No. 2 is in the front of the engine (Not under the upper intake) and on the passenger side. Maybe it's a bad ignition wire.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It could be a slight short in the multifunction switch, that controls the headlights and wipers. I did have to replace mine. I do have a video on that. It is a pretty simple thing to change and available on the aftermarket. Autozone even stocks it.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The common fails points in the ignition are the crank position sensor (cps) and the distributor. Sometimes it is guesswork since they don't always throw a code. Most people change the CPS first because it is less expensive. If the CPS is bad you do have to change it and it is best to get the O.E.M. one from Chrysler. If the distributor is bad you can change the ignition coil in the distributor. I have a video on that. If the amp was allowed to dry out without powering it on (cont)

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    A clogged filter usually gives you warning. Stalling, bad acceleration, etc. versus sudden death. But the simple way to test for fuel is to just spray starting fluid in the intake. If it fires up then you know it's fuel related. Cheap & very easy without any fancy test equipment. I tend to think that is not the problem though. But it will only take 5 minutes to check and cost almost nothing.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's probably the nozzles themselves. They need to be cleaned with a small needle. Also a small needle is how they are aimed/adjusted to spray the windshield properly.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try jiggling the wires were it is attached on the rear view mirror. There could also be a corroded connection on the BCM that causes problems. Sometimes I had a hard times figuring electrical problems out and finally just replugged in all the connectors and the problem went away.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    With good spark and fuel, the only thing I can think of is that the valve timing is off or the spark plug wiring order is wrong or the distributor is 18o degrees off.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is probably fuse 6 (20 amp Yellow) in the Engine compartment. (not the fuzes inside the car) I have all the dealer service manuals & I still am not 100% sure if that is the fuze. That fuze also controls the 4 way hazard flashers. Actually the VTSS (Vehicle Theft Security System) uses a few fuzes since the system goes through the body control module. I think fuze 6 in the engine bay is the main one. Makes sense since the hazard lights are part of the alarm.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure but sometimes when you have a lot of crazy problems like you describe, it is the Body Control Module (BCM) that is bad. Pretty much all non-engine related functions go through the BCM.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you don't hear the top motor, it could be the relay or the switch itself. Check the motor right at the source to see if it runs. If you replace it, try a good vendor in ebay. Sometime parts can be a great deals. Not sure on the AC. I thought it had a low coolant safety shutoff like most cars do so it would not seize the compressor. They have coolant with dyes that you can check with ultraviolet light and find the leak.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No fan at all? Could b the fan motor, loose wire or maybe the blower motor resistor. Also check to see if the AC compressor actually kicks over when you turn on the AC. If it does not it could possibly just be a fuze or a relay if you are lucky.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    (cont).of the instrument cluster. You may want to pull the cluster and plug in the connectors a few times and see if that does it. It is going to be too hard to diagnose this completely over the internet. If a computer is bad, I suspect the PCM not the BCM due to the problem with the tachometer.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Idk, I'll look at the wiring diagrams and get back to you later. You probably need a dealer service manual with all the wiring diagrams to find the trouble. It could be in the BCM also (body control module). Right now I am thinking the BCM due to there being several problems at once.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, the simplest thing would be to try replugging in the connections on the back of the instrument cluster. But it may a lot more involved than that. Electrical problems are not hard when broken down into steps but you you need a wiring diagram and lots of patience. It could be a real puzzle sometimes.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know what they are talking about when they say there is another 40 amp fuze for the seats under the hood. I would suspect the switch itself being the problem. Get a can of electromotive cleaner (Not WD 40) and clean out the seat switches real good. Of course check for power. When a car sits a while any of the switches can mess up. Multifunction switch, ignition switch, power window switches etc.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It could be the ignition switch. Do the lights dim when you turn the key to start?

    2000 JXI: Replacement starter will not spin/engage. Starter motor was tested on bench and spins ok.
    When key is turned to start, solenoid plunges but starter does not energize. Would this not indicate starter relay is ok? Is there something else in the high current path to starter that could be blown? Last starter motor was seized and would have caused high current to blow something I'm sure but schematics don't show anything between battery and starter motor. HELP!!

    Check the battery volts while trying to crank it over. It should be at least 9.5 volts. But I problem can't be w' the battery if you were using a boost charger. See how many volts you have at the starter itself and also what it drops to when you try to turn it over. I think you have low volts to the starter itself. So someplace has a bad connection between the starter & the battery. Probably corrosion.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just swap in another fuse or check it with an ohmmeter. If the starter fuse keeps blowing, then the starter is drawing too many amps and probably need to be replaced. Remember also that your lights can work ok with a low battery. Check the battery voltage at rest. A full charge is 12.7 volts at rest. It needs about 12.1 volts to crank over the car. So if it is at 11 volts your lights can work and it will not start.

    Pin 55 DarkBlue/Tan wire at the PCM controls the Low speed fan relay & pin 69 DarkBlue/Pink controls the high speed fan relay. Check it for codes. Bad PCM? Try changing the 2 relays for the fans, (very cheap parts). I have a feeling it could be a bad PCM or BCM. If the tach is not working, I'm thinking the PCM. It could be wiring though. Fuze 9 (10amp) feeds the 2 fan relays & also feeds into the instrument cluster w' a LightGreen?Black wire at pin 5 at C2 connector in the back (cont)

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You will not like this answer. If it is simple, maybe it is the multi-function switch. You have to test all the wiring. For the washer pump it is a Brown/Dark Blue wire. From the multi-function switch that wire feeds into the Body Control Module (C3) at 22 pin connection at Pin 10. From there is goes out of the 14 pin connection (C1) at Pin 10 (also a Brown/Dark Blue wire). Sometime the problem is the BCM itself. If that is the case. you could probably bypass the BCM in this case.

    Hey, I two issues, first her air conditioner compressor seized up, got it replaced with a used one, got the coolant charge put in, and then it happened again, due to the coolant charge leaking out from somewhere. dont know if you can help, just wondering if you have ever heard of this, and second, the top stopped going down and I am going to go get a new relay for it tomorrow and see if that works, but if not, do you know how hard/realistic it would be to replace the motor if that is the issue?

    I have 2 problems, First let me say I have a 1996 convertible sebring JXI 1. The car dies off and on but usually after a minute or so it will start back up. I've been told it is the cranshaft sensor and can that be fixed with out getting a new sensor? and 2. recently my amp under my passenger seat got soaked with water and shorted out and now the front speakers do not work yet the back ones do, is there a way I can fix this without buying a new amp?

    I use synthetic oil all the time. I'll use Shell gas quite a bit since that is the closest gas station to me. I thik synthetic oil is better. I also put a little Auto-Rx in the oil every oil change. That stuff actually did stop a lifter from ticking only when cold. No tic noise now and I tried a few things before Auto-Rx. Runs like new and has 250,000 miles.

    Would the fact the solenoid activates when the key is turned not prove the ign switch and associated relays are functioning correctly? The dashlights are bright, headlights too, and even when connected to 400-amp charger the starter will not spin, even though the solenoid activates. The dash and interior lights do not dim at all like they should. The engine turns easily by hand using a johnson bar. I guess my next check will be the starter cable continuity. Stumped!

    Two Things - First, A/C works on a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible but occasionally stops blowing Cold Air. The man I purchased it from 6 months ago showed me a trick to get it to blow cold air. The trick is to hit the top of the dash. Sure enough, it starts blowing cold air so there is a short somewhere. Just suprised it's in the dash. Second, convertible won't go down. At one point, you could hear the motor but it wouldn't go down. Now, you can't even hear the Motor when pressing the convertible down switch but the windows go down. Is it difficult to change out the convertible motor?

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Changing relays is just a guess. But the relays are so cheap that in that case swapping in new parts is not stupid, especially on an old car. A relay can look good on the outside but could be sticking or slightly corroded on the inside. That's why on a car over 10 years old, change out those very inexpensive relays. I don't agree with guessing on swapping parts generally but with cheap stuff that is over a decade old, change it out.

    A failing BCM could just present problems after it's heated up. A lot of failing electronics can do that. Sometimes people spray cold air in a can on a component to see if the problem goes away fast.

    Hello and thank you. I am working on a 2000 Convertable Sebring and I am not getting power the "catch all fuse" do you where or what wire is to bring power to it so that hopefully I can track down the problem ?

    Okay so I went into the fuel injectors. The #2 wiring was screwed so I wrapped it tightly with electric tape and put it back. Now the p0302 code is gone but the p0202 still remains. I switched #2 with #4 injector and it still gave me a p0202 code. I can see a small difference, it's getting there...any advice oh wise one? Everything you said thus far has been spot on.

      If you switched injectors and still get P0202 it would have to be the wiring to no. 2 injector

    1999 JXi: No power release for the trunk, no rear view mirror lights, service center says that the computer diagnostic plug in has no power. Are these related and, if so, how to remedy? Or is it worse than that? All the other electrical stuff, to the best of my knowledge, is working fine and car runs great.

    So i had it towed to the dodge place ( after checking all fuses accept the relays behind the power supply that i just seen in your video. any ways the dodge place said that the S.K.I.M module was bad and needed to be replaced.

    (con't) then it could be ok as it drys out. Often when things are wet and power is applied, that is when the damage occurs. Still you could get lucky and it may work later on.

    Help! I have a the door error going on and off while im driving to the point where i think there is a switch that activates the light and reads door error. I dont know where to locate the wire or switch to stop it completely where do i locate the switch? Seems like it may be in the passenger door. Help!

    You may not have seated the wire all the way on the plug. If that is not the case then their is something wrong with the end of the wire and the wire needs to be replaced.

    Check the fuzes with an Ohmmeter. They may look ok but that can often fool ya.

    Great video. I have a 2004 Sebring convertible. I am not getting any air for AC or heat. Nothing is blowing. Just stopped two days ago. Could that also be a relay switch? Thanks.

    You're saying that car starts fine only with starting fluid? Can you hear the fuel pump turn on? Just to be sure, remove the lower back seat and listen. I know you said the fuel pressure is fine. I'm not sure if I understand everything you are stating.
    No start, but cranks over. You have spark. It will start with starting fluid. Do I have that right?

    Great video thanks for sharing. I own 1999 jxi convertible, lately my 4way stops flashing after 5 seconds and left/right signal stops after 1 sec. not sure where relay is located, however fuse i think i know and flasher is on steering wheel which i will change. Secondly, did any convertible owners only using synthetic oil? does it help? also does V-power shell gas helps this engine or harms it in long run? I didn't know about relays so thanks for point it out.

    We recently had the spark plugs replaced in my 2000, a couple of days later, I'm at a stop light, and the idle begins stalling. I get home, and the center spark plug is loose. I pushed it back in until it clicked into place, and it works fine. But before I even make it out of the neighborhood it's popped out again, do you have any advice or ideas on how to fix it/what is wrong with it?
