  • This is a simple fix for the power window. Typically a window will jam or pop out of track simply due to lack of lubrication on the window tracks. Use "white grease" for this application.

    Great info and video! I bought my 1996 Sebring JXI last year from the original owner with 100,000 miles. The door windows go up and down very slow, so a project is to take the doors apart and redo the windows. I learned a lot from your video, keep them coming.

    Thanks. I have not done any vids lately since the Sebring is running and working like new in every respect, even though it has 250,000 miles. I do also like the Generation I Sebring the best (1996 to 2000).

    Got it! Wires between the door and car were just hanging on by a couple of strands. I could measure voltage at the connector the plugged into the motor but the few strands could not carry the required voltage to activate the window. Thanks for all the help. Your videos have saved me a lot of time and money! Thanks for posting them!

    Thanks for the great video. Clear, concise, informative, no BS. I have a problem with the front passenger side window on a 99 Cirrus. (also with the Mitsubishi 2.5) It looks exactly the same as this Sebring. Needed to know what to expect and where before hand and it looks like you nailed it, brother. Thanks again, I'm going to try and fix my window now. If you hear screaming and cussing, I didn't fix it.

    So a few days later the wheel had broken again, I think the initial break in the track slightly bent the arm causing it to brake again. Couldn't find an exact replacement so I bought the nearest thing to it which was a similar wheel for a chevy (bought at autozone for $5) and trimmed it out to the same size as the old one. Re bent the arm so hopefully it won't happen again :) Also repaired the roof which was super easy just needed transmission fluid topping up in the pump behind the rear seats!

    Keep the videos coming. I just replaced the convertible top and during the course of it I think the rear right window jumped the track. Too dark out right now to try to fix it but I'll take off the back interior panels tomorrow to see why it won't go up and down any more. It was working fine before... probably a good time to grease it like you suggest.

    re: "'99 Sebring Jxi's rear window slow for a few years and now it's stuck in the down position. I hear very brief motor sounds in each direction" -- may be that the cable in the rear window is slipping/binding. We're having the same problem now with our '99 Sebring JXi -- because the cable that keeps coming off the track -- looks like the white plastic piece is worn allowing slipage. A mech quoted us $700.00 -- said we have to buy the entire window motor kit to get the white plastic piece

    @TheAppreciative1 Exactly. Whatever you spend now is actually twice if you invested in silver instead.

    The window not working at all in one direction but works in the other direction is usually the switch.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a pretty simple wiring setup. The switch would be likely from what you checked so far. I got a good set of driver door window switches cheap off of e-bay. All the switches still work fine as of now.

    Thanks for posting all these videos on the sebring convertibles. I have a '98. I started having trouble with the small back window. it would make a grinding noise and get stuck. I used white grease on the 2 tracks which improved the situation. the window raises and falls smoothly, but its still not totally fixed, I cant raise it fully, its stops about a half an inch before it hits the top. Could the power window motor be the problem? There is no body damage

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Some type of short, I guess. If you have power right at the connector and the motor itself works, that is crazy. Check the wires for power, While they are connected to the motor. Something does not add up.

  • @boodat77
    @boodat77 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    maybe tightening or loosening the bolts that hold the glass in place? It is working much better after using the white grease, but I can still hear the grinding sound and it does not close all the way

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a "window timer module" in the door next to the relays. It is the larger "relay" closer to the speaker. The "window timer module" will enable all 4 windows to go down about an inch as soon as you hit the top-down or top-up switch. I think that could be the problem since it is connected to all 4 windows & all 4 of your windows stopped working.

    Power right as the green and yellow go into the motor when you flip switch either way and the motor is connected. Thanks for help syyenergy7.

  • @georgemason5758

    Ok, I replaced the window timing module...same result. I jumped power directly to the window and I was able to get it to go up and down. I measured voltage coming to the window with the leads unpluged from the motor...I got 12 volts. When I plug it into the the motor the voltage drops to .58 Volts. I tested a new motor, and got the same results...Any thoughts why the voltage would drop? I have not yet tried a new door swithch...

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The are not that many components to the power windows. There are a couple relays and a timer module and the motor it self. It sounds like something it binding versus the motor. Try to listen to it and pinpoint the exact source of the noise. You may want to have someone operate the window while you listen through a hose, to get an exact location of where the grinding noise is coming from. It may just need to be cleaned and then use white grease.

    What if a window goes down fully and normally, but will hardly ever go up? On my grandfather's 99 sebring, the passenger window will go down, but we'll have trouble getting it to go back up. He replaced the switches, fuses and motor do that is out. Is there any other cause, do you think?

  • @syyenergy7

    @TheAppreciative1 I semi-enjoy doing this stuff and I cut costs.

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It may just need to be put back on track. The tracks need to be cleaned and greased. It may have been operating slow due to dirt and hardened grease on the tracks. Often this is the case. I would try another mechanic. Or maybe one of the mobile independent mechanics.

    Hi. Thanks for posting this great info! My '99 Sebring Jxi's rear window was slow for a few years and now it's stuck in the down position. I hear very brief motor sounds in each direction. The window can lift up but it's clearly off the track. I was told I need a new regulator (~$400) and 1.7 hours of labor ~$163. I am totally unwilling to pay that:) I just put over $700 into the car for brakes, belts and oil change. What do you think it is? And do you think a girl who is only slightly mechanic

    Is it possible to turn manual doors into power doors on a 96 plymouth breeze? I mean like turning rolled down windows and push down locks into electric by finding like a dodge stratus (same year), and take the doors off of it and switch them to my car. If its possible , is it a simple task to do?

  • @syyenergy7
    @syyenergy7  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could be lack of white grease or one of the guide wheels jumped off track.

    If its the track wheel you can buy one from autozone for $5 you just need to trim out the inside a little with a knife or drill. It can be a little tough but $5 is much better than $700

    @RobertSmith-yw4ue 11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @syyenergy7

    Yeah probably, but the automatic door locking feature at 20 mph is controlled by the BCM. Other no reason you can not do it.

  • @syyenergy7

    Sometime you can make something or fix it with gorilla glue. I would check online especially on ebay and ask vendors for used parts. I got some stuff before very, very cheap.

      On some circuits you can bypass a bad BCM but you need a full wiring diagram.

    • @tavtelmedia

      thanks, The mechanic tried that. I ordered a BCM off ebay. The part number matches identically. The mechanic has 30 yrs experience as an authorized Chrysler mechanic. He was able to get the alarm to stop with the beeping and lights flashing and stuff but the BCM doesn't seem to want to talk to the engine to tell it that it can now start. It starts and then dies, which is what it does when the alarm is armed. Could it also be the ECM or do you think the BCM may have been bad?
