I had a 1999 Sebring Coupe non convertible.. never the less you have the only video remotely close to what I needed.. so just a note to the coupe owners, video is awesome help.. but exhaust is easy enough to drop on with a 19mm socket and breaker bar.. only tricky part I had was removing the top bolt took a while with the socket. Other than that all the tricks such as pushing the engine up helped greatly.
'98 Sebring did not require jacking the engine up. Simply remove the oil filter. The small connector requires you to press in the tab. Thanks for the video.
Just replaced a starter in my 96 JXi. The 96 does not require jacking up the engine, it came right out. Got the Duralast from Auto Zone. It is tricky to get it in. Mine was so tight that I thought it was a wrong fit. I want back to Auto Zone and compared with the core (my old one). They looked the same so I took it back and this time started slowly evenly with each bolt. Had to use a crowbar to wiggle it into an alinement. I did not expect tight fit like this.
You would take of the nut and use a fine emery paper to sand off any corrosion on the wire terminal ends and also the post where it is attached to. On the negative side there the main ground and then a smaller nut under that with a smaller ground wire. If you clean these connections, make sure to get at all of them.
That car sounds brand new :) how many miles you got on her. Plus my ABS light is on and I see Your's isn't. any way I can make a request and have you make a video on where the sensors are located I think it may just be a bad sensor but not 100%. Also where can I get the ABS code read so I can get more of a pin point problem with it? one more thing with your video minus the exhaust leak because of the swiss cheese muffler I have my car sounds pretty new also
What's nice is that we have a shop down the road that will just replace the inside components inside the starter instead of buying the whole thing again wayyyyy cheaper
ssenergy, did u unbolt anything before jacking up the engine? Also, how did u unsnap the white plastic connector? did u use a screwdriver. I'm having heck of a time disconnecting the starter white connection. I'm not replacing the starter, but I'm trying to make room to unbolt the Oil pan and replace the leaky gasket.
I didn't unbolt anything. You only need a very small amount of additional room to remove the starter. I forget about the white connector. I likely has a hook that you will need to squeeze a tab to pull it off.
Hey, syyenergy7 I have a 96 Chrysler Sebring Convertible and I went to start it and it clicked then dash lights radio all stopped and no starter turning over I'm at a loss to know what is wrong with it have any idea?
The relays are very inexpensive parts, so just throw out the old ones. Sometimes the little blades that may have some corrosion and the way to clean that is with fine emery paper. Sometimes they can corrode internally and you can't see that, so it is smart to change them if they are old, since they are very inexpensive.
I have a '95 Cirrus. for the last few days to a week when ever I tried to start the car it goes errr errr then fires up until Monday I try to start it and now just goes click click nothing wont crank over over. I thought it might been a bad battery it has a new battery in it, I checked the fuses everything check out, only left is the starter itself or maybe the engine froze up (unlikely it's a frozen engine) what's your thoughts
syyenergy7 I replaced the starter and the old one was defiantly bad, was much easier job then I expected, now she's back on the road again, once again thank you
one of your videos I thought it was this one you said people must think there a lot of problems with this car and this is in my opinion when you get a car of any make that has over 250k miles on it it is expected parts need to be replaced, bottom line is either pay for a new car payment and repairs or get an old car and pay for repairs, I've chosen to pay for repairs on an old car
I have a problem where my car wont start. I did all the recommended checks, and I even took my battery to have it load tested. The battery is only one year old. Anyway I have a no crank no start problem, so I thought it was the starter, except that I was able to jump start the car. So needless to say I am clueless. I even cleaned off the small amount of terminal corrosion I have. Do you have any ideas. My car is a 1997 sebring convertible with 2.5 liter engine
It was indeed the starter which is very easy to change on this car. One of the easier things to replace. I did not even have to jack up the motor. The starter easily slipped over the exhaust with just a little bit of wiggle. I seems that when you are using a running car to jump start it is putting out between 13-14 volts which is enough to turn over a weak starter. The battery in the sebring is not the biggest one around so it would not turn over the starter by itself. Anyway long story made short the new starter did the trick. Thanks as always for your great insight.
If you have a 95 Avenger DO NOT FOLLOW THESE STEPS. Unbolt your exhaust only from the front just to lower and make a little more room and go from there. Also remove the oil filter.
I just had the starter replaced on my 1998 Chrysler Sebring JXI, 2.5 L, V-6. They charged me $209 for the starter, $137 for labor and $55 for the tow in. Altogether with 6% sales tax it cost me $432 . I got raped.
Sebring Convertible, Fix LED Console Light with EL Inverter th-cam.com/video/ekKtSPcjXpI/w-d-xo.html The shift indicator lights on the console typically will not work or the light will go out intermittently from time to time. This is a common problem on the Chrysler Sebring convertible The problem of the shift indicator light or console light not working is usually a simple solution that arises from a faulty or defective EL inverter. This video shows how to fix it.
syyenergy7 I thought you would be drivin some thing a little newer!! oh yea!! you said the the super rich looks simple like brother (end of the world ) Camping. Awesome video and commentary! My dumb ads would have dropped the exhaust! That saved me a ton of time and hardship. Thank you!
They make them in China. That's how it's so cheap. This video was a life saver

Hi I have a 96 sebring Conv. That's not starting it won't register that it's in park or neutral do you have any suggestions on what to do?
What's nice is that we have a shop down the road that will just replace the inside components inside the starter instead of buying the whole thing again wayyyyy cheaper
The neutral safety switch is located in the transmission itself and not easy to change. Some people bypass it but I would not recommend that.
I have 99 $ebring conv, my guy sez he cat get starter out w/0 removed exhaust.. ur saying Jack up engine instead of car to remove starter, CORRECT?
Looks like I have same problem in my 1998 conv... its winter 2019
I have a few cars. The next one may be from the 1950's or 1960's or maybe even the '40's. They made them better back then.

Plecto75 Starter. That's how they go.
syyenergy7 so the 3 bolts that's holding the starter in place is under the oil filter hanging on the side or is beside the transmission oil pan?
Plecto75 It's pretty simple. You might need to raise the engine a very small amount though.
syyenergy7 I replaced the starter and the old one was defiantly bad, was much easier job then I expected, now she's back on the road again, once again thank you
Plecto75 good to go, Glad hear it resolved.

likely starter or starter relay

I'm in Florida, so it is mainly like summertime most of the year. I think it was a couple of hours.
I am trying to find out how many screws are supposed to be in a 1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible?...PLEASE HELP
If you have a 95 Avenger DO NOT FOLLOW THESE STEPS. Unbolt your exhaust only from the front just to lower and make a little more room and go from there. Also remove the oil filter.
How long does this job take?
gotta love that duralast
You don't need much more clearance. That's why you don't need to loosen any motor mounts. You will see when you are doing it. It's not much.
How did you know the starter was going? What were the signs?
Slower cranking with a good battery. If you put and amp meter on it, it would show high amps draw.
the starter an alternator wire got warm when I tried to hook the ground on the battery. the ground sparked like crazy
No problem man :)
I just had the starter replaced on my 1998 Chrysler Sebring JXI, 2.5 L, V-6.

dude u talk to much about nothing and u didn't show any thing
Was thinking the same. Couldn't finish watching.
No. you get enough clearance without loosening the motor mounts.

"How long does this job take?"
A couple hours if you take your time and go slow.
they made a good day turn bad quick when they built this thing. I hope I don't ever have to replace the starter. taking off uneccessary crap. lol.
