Background: Thirunyana Sambandar met Thirunavukkarasar in Thiruvengadu and they spent some time together there. During that time, Jainism was on the rise in the Pandya kingdom. The Pandya king became a Jain. The queen Mangaiyarkkarasiyar and the chief minister Kulacciraiyar were upset at this turn of events. They sent a request to Thirunyana Sambandar to visit Madurai. Sambandar agreed and was about to start for Madurai. Thirunavukkarasar himself has been persecuted by the Jains in the past. He felt that Sambandar being a very young boy, the Jains may cause him bodily harm. Further, he concluded that astrologically, that was not an auspicious period. Hence, he tried to dissuade Sambandar from going to Madurai.
Sambandar responded to Thirunavukkarasar that no harm will come to an ardent Siva devotee like him. Then sang Kolaru pathigam. (Kol=planet. Also stands for the effect (usually bad) of the planet. Aru=remove, pathigam=set of 10 songs)

In this life, script, dialogue and screen play are pre-programmed for everyone based on karma of past lives. Yes, good and bad we face in this life are based on consequence of our actions/reactions/thoughts of past lives. Free will is limited to creating new karma which goes to our future lives in the form of regrets, unfulfilled desires, new likes/dislikes we have in the current life. Remember, Karma pre-programs not just situations, circumstances and opportunities but also a person's mindset or guna.
Yes, if a man is at fault for something - it means he has violated dharma and created karma or created a cause. The effect of that cause could also be pre-programmed to face in this life. eg A drunkard dying from liver cirrhosis. We are also pre-programmed to create karma which goes to our future lives, if we violate dharma or the natural law.
