    My B16 is smoking on acceleration and in-gear decceleration, but not on startup. I am burning a quart of oil about every 500 miles. Spark plug #2 is getting fouled in a about 1000 to 1200 miles. Also compression is good all around. I replaced valve stem seals already. I suspect stuck oil control rings or second ring like you say. Engine has about 123,000 miles. I already started ordering parts to build spare engine, a stock B20VTEC with PHK pistons and B16A head.

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Looks like it is indeed the second ring but also a bit of blowby altogether nothing quite fatal to the engine but def something that would annoy you…
      maybe the car is itching for the 2liter power plant already 🤣

      @@SRDmotorsports Yes I’ve been keeping it alive and never letting the oil level get below the bottom dot. I’ve recently started using an S2000 PCX filter for a bit more oil capacity. Maybe it is calling for the 2L upgrade.

    • @TrackSol

      @@Built_it_by-alex Yes I was thiking that also a possibility but this car is my daily driver so it’s better for me to build a spare engine and swap it in one weekend. Luckily I have two spare JDM B20/P8R engines and a spare B16 head.

    Question, does removing the casting flash on the intake and exhaust port and coupling it with a portgasket match make any difference in torque and power? dunno if it would actually slow down the airspeed of the port since your introducing a wider angle of air coming in (because of the portgasket match) and also slight widening of the removal of the casting flash.

      really depends on a lot of things

    Hi. Sir. I want to do the same refresh of my civic VTI 96 engine. But my car having issue with segunyal. How much will it cost for this kind of work. Thank you Sir. Appreciate you kind response.

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If the car is still running and all…then the crankshaft is salvageable if the segunyal issue is on the pulley side , it’s hard to find a vti crank na matino these days

    Running on cheap oil over the recommend service interval can cause that smoking over a period of time

    Because someone was into the cylinder head previously and the oil in the intake ports, I’m thinking I’d jump ahead, to disassembling the cylinder head for inspection, especially, the valve guides and valve stem seals, as you showed it smoking at idle / high vacuum…
    Looking at the work done previously, I’d be wary of the valves having been sunk, crappy valve job, etc.
    To do it right, I’d be expecting to have to replace valve guides and seats.
    Also, is there enough cylinder head remaining, as I’d expect it was planed / decked, before.
    Maybe time to look for another cylinder head, before starting to spend the customer’s money / cutting into your profit or wasting time?
    These types of “gotchas”, if not found on tear down, is what pisses people off, and makes for bad reputations.
    May be you did all this, but, it didn’t show in the video. If so, this wasn’t meant to give you crap, just, to let people know, how much needs to go into a good engine build, before you start building or ordering parts.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Hope the bore isn't out of round that you can get away with a rehone and a re-ring

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Surprised it isn’t out of round upon check up… so it looks like it’s just a high miler not really over revved but the old Hg had sealant so I suspect it had a p08 head and before selling they threw the stock p2j back in
      And sold as “stock” fresh 🤣 but current owner (1 month owned) is lucky we didn’t find any catastrophic issue actually the crank is in top shape

    • @findtherightbeat
      @findtherightbeat 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SRDmotorsports That's what I don't get with the local market, they try to pass off everything as fresh just to make a quick buck. I'd rather have a seller be honest with the issues and price it reasonably than have unwanted surprises along the way.

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@findtherightbeat I definitely agree I mean he got it for 170k not cheap but not expensive I mean the exterior is pretty mint regardless if the engine was like this the price was still fair… if they were honest? It would have been even Gold

    • @findtherightbeat
      @findtherightbeat 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
