Thanks a lot! I really like doing stuff that other people won’t so we know if stuff actually works! I was kinda bummed I had to wait another year tho haha.
This is the first time I write a comment on TH-cam and I’ve had this account for like 15 years. Simply because it has to be said that I’ve never seen any video that says explains the situation so clearly the way you just did. Respect

I have HEAVY White smoke, sweet smelling Coming out The Exhaust of my “2011 Jaguar XJL 5.0” so I poured blue devil into my coolant reservoir (I didn’t drain my coolant before adding Blue devil, also had a sealed Radiator) Anyways I closed the coolant cap as soon as I poured the in & drove for about 30 mins, Next day later? My car just makes a 1 Click noise!! &Jump the car nothing Same Loud “1 CLICK”😢 What may have happened? (Also Car oil burns in under 3 days, and coolant reservoir becomes underfilled in 1 day) Also do you think it was my upper intake manifold? Blue devil May have sealed my cylinders stuck? How do I fix?!? Plz help?🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😭
What makes this video even better is the fact that Chris started this video two years ago without any idea of where his channel would end up between the start and end. Just shows you how much dedication he has to this channel and how much he deserves every good thing that comes his way!

I'm a retired chemist and did a lot of research on this subject and settled on Blue Devil for my '97 Altima AND my '05 F-250 (diesel). No more head gasket issues even after several years of driving both vehicles. One proviso-- follow the directions on the bottle to the letter.
@@devincreech6367 Follow the directions on the product label-- (1) radiator and engine block drain. (2) radiator and engine block flush. (3) fill cooling system with product diluted per the product label. (4) drive for a couple hours when climate is above freezing. (5) drain product from radiator and engine block. (6) fill cooling system with proper mix of coolant and water.
@@devincreech6367 I may have forgotten to mention that the hot gasses that penetrate past the head gasket breach / head crack etc, actually turn the Blue Devil into a very-very durable bond / solid that becomes part of the head gasket seal itself. Hope this clarification helps.
@@marcusaurelius652 He obviously stated that he understood its a 2 year old video. Haha some people. I love how he didn't explicitly state "this is 2 years ago", and that's all it took for you to not understand LOL whoosh if i've ever seen one
@@chanus4629 He talks about the cost in the video. New or even used engine is more expensive or more work than it's worth compared to buying another used car. Fixing the engine is equally expensive.
Very good tutorial. I used Blue Devil in my 1998 Subaru Forester 2 years ago and I'm still driving it now, no problems. It had a bad head gasket. Can't believe how good Blue Devil works, and I highly recommend it.
I have a 99' that has a small oil leak. Just a spot here and there so nothing crazy. Thinking it could be the head gasket though. Car only has 62k miles, but it's never been replaced. You think it'd be worth using the Blue Devil on it now to get ahead of any issue? I use it for my business, so planning to keep the car a long time.
I used Blue Devil when my 97 Acura TL 3.2L started overheating continuously. I dye tested it to confirm and it was my head gasket. I followed Blue Devil step by step. I also bought a brand new radiator and flushed the system with a water hose with the top radiator hose pushing it through it and with no thermostat with bottom hose disconnected. With that I started the vehicle as well to fully flush all the coolant out. Applied the BD and it worked. This was at 100k miles and I am at 190k miles after 10 years! No issues.
Was wondering if it would be a good idea to drain your coolant system after the leak has stopped. Agree that it looks impressive and it didn’t clog things up by why temp fate? At that point you’ve probably kicked up some nasties in that system. Guess that was a long winded way of saying I’d drain it and just replace with properly mixed coolant.
So I had one on my first car a 96 Saturn sl1 5speed 1.9l sohc with 60k miles that I got for 600 bucks in 2007 on it when I got it. I used black bead shit and flushed my cooling system after and put 100k miles on it and drove like....a 14-18 year old. But I also drove a lot of hwy miles back and forth from mpls to Iowa babying it getting 43-46mpg....so it works. Would I do it to a vehicle that has value...idk
@@chrisfix I've heard many times that it can. Wonder if the newer products are much better than the old. Or it could all just come from the sawdust and concrete tricks of old! Great video, Chris.

I put Bar's stop leak in my 2001, Lincoln Town Car almost 3 years ago and its still holding. My heater works great, uses maybe 8 oz of anti freeze a year. The heater core was leaking. That's why I used Bar's Stop Leak. Works great for me. To change a heater core on this car, the entire dash needs to come out about a 2 day job for a professional, 3 days for a DIY. For what I spent on the Bar's Leak, it's worth it even if I have to flush , and add new anti freeze and Bar's leak. 😊
30:15 I immediately knew that this was a Dodge Viper with that side exhaust (blowing up something off for its way) and that V10 sound. I appreciate you for the last 2 years of your hard workings.

My dad just blew the head gasket on the family's 2011 Chevy Aveo with an overheat. (I'm pretty sure the rad has a leak and I'll be pulling it tomorrow to confirm.) The reservoir now blows the coolant out when the cap is off which it never did before and I found water/coolant ontop of the pistons after pulling the spark plugs. But your video is so comprehensive that it has given me the confidence to give the Blue Devil a try once I get the rad leak fixed, versus taking the head off the block and praying to everything since I've never even opened a valve cover before. I'll try to remember to update this as it goes.
You have helped millions of regular Joe’s like myself better understand how their vehicle operates. While I do not have time to fix my vehicle myself, your videos have helped me keep from getting played at the mechanic shop. Thank you for your dedication to being so thorough.
I always encourage people who aren’t into cars or don’t know anything about cars to at least know their vehicle. The more they know the car, the less chance of a scam mechanic prying out money from them

@@chrisfix DUDE, I used Blue Devil and the head gasket issue is solved, no more coolant leaks and car is running at normal temperatures. My mechanic tried telling me to buy new engine since fixing head gasket is too complex and time consuming for him. For added support I was wondering if people can try using different head gasket product within days of each other? Would you recommend that?
Just bought a 2004 chevy suburban. Obviously very used. Blown head gasket. You probably saved me thousands of dollars. Thank you for your time and commitment!!
I drove a car for several years with some head gasket sealer. Luckily, the head gasket was leaking externally and not internally. It was flying out of the side of the block and was therefore MUCH easier to seal. If you are leaking internally, it rarely works.
The comment "there are 5 mil. Of you guys" him sitting at a healthy 8 mil. Definitely a old clip haha still love you for all the help over the years to help keep my car on the road and safely.
I think Chris is one of those youtubers you just don't care how long he takes for the next video. The quality and effort he puts is so incredible that the wait is well worth it!!!!
For those watching this video years later I thought it might be helpful to know there is more than one Blue Devil head gasket sealer. I had a friend that used the smaller ( 16 oz ) bottle that's featured in the video and he didn't have any luck but I used the larger (1 quart)Blue Devil version and it did work for me. I highly recommend following the directions
I've been working on cars for nearly fifty years, and I've tried many different head gasket sealers over the decades. Usually the sealers from my early days were made to just get you home, but over the last decade things have definitely changed. My experience over the last ten years has seen quite a big difference in the quality and performance of these additives, and the one I recommend most would be Blue Devil, from their rear main seal repair, to transmission shift additive, and head gasket sealer, they are definitely The Best in my opinion!!!!
what you should recommend is get the actually fixed, if you can't afford that high bill just get a cheaper car and don't go to a dealer ship for starters. If you're car is worth $1500 i doubt anyone will be able to spend 30 000$ on a newer car, so yea, fix it if the bodywork is in good shape. On the used market you'll never know if there is sawdust in the engine or not.
2003 VW beetle turbo. Used blue devil sealer, following directions to a tee. Let the car cool and changed the oil. Have put on 15,000 miles and have had zero issues.

I have only used a head gasket in a bottle once, on my wife's last car. She had a 2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP with the 3.6 V6, 160,000 miles. Head gasket leak into the exhaust. Going through about a gallon of antifreeze a month. I used the K Seal brand sealer. The only thing I did different from the instructions was since it wasn't going through antifreeze very fast, I drained out about a gallon from the radiator, mixed the sealer into the antifreeze and added it back to the reservoir. Watched the coolant level closely for about a month with very little loss of coolant. She drove it for another 8 months before we traded it in. Didn't notice any side effects from it. The heater worked like normal. No over heating issues.

First comment I've ever made on a youtube video is now: This was an excellent and comprehensive review, thanks for putting in the effort. I've always thought those products were snake oil... but if your in a bind it is totally worth a $20 swing for the fences. After 10K miles if it started to leak again? I"d throw the other half of that bottle in and cross my fingers. Well done man!
I've been using that exact Bar's Leaks sealer on a 2010 Prius (that year is known for blowing head gaskets). First sealed it in late Feb 2020, and the problem did come back roughly 10k miles later. I've put about 25k miles on it so far and still going (bought it at 193k, 218k now) about to add some more sealer again. It needs more when it starts to shake briefly on a cold start, and at the same time I notice the coolant level very slowly going down. I didn't use as much the 2nd time because I figured after the first time, it was still mostly sealed. I think I used 1/3rd of a bottle the last time. Oil has been clean the whole time. Leak was pretty minor from the get-go, would take days of normal driving to notice the reservoir having less coolant in it. 16:30 The bottle shows more steps than that...first step after pouring the sealer is to get it up to temp (In a Prius that means go for a short drive), and then stop and cool off completely, but THEN you're supposed to also go for a second 15 minute drive after it cooled from the first step, not the next day. That's when I take it on the freeway for 20 minutes or so. THEN the next day and for the next 10k, it runs great. Maybe that's what caused the thermostat on the Jaguar to stick closed for a bit? I really have no idea, I'm no mechanic and these problems have variables.
THANK YOU! I HAVE ZERO CAR KNOWLEDGE. You explained so very thoroughly and with care. I saw a car for sale that needed head gasket replaced. I wanted to use the last of my funds to purchase. I now feel more comfortable to weigh my options.

I had been watching every video I could find to choose the best one. I settled on K-Seal Ultimate because of ease of use. I had a blown head gasket on a 2001 Buick Century 3.1 engine, very famous for weak head gaskets. I followed the directions and almost fainted when I saw the massive volumes of white smoke dying down to absolutely nothing within 5 minutes of the thermostat opening at operating temperature. I started with short trips in town for a week, just in case it failed. The next week I took it out on the highway at 60 mph for 65 mile round trip with no problems. I have since driven from Kingman to Laughlin several times. It is torture on cars pulling that 13 mile steep grade to the top at 65 mph. The real test will come when the weather gets hotter. My two test were done in 77* to 84* temperatures with the A/C on to put extra stress on the cooling system. The temp gauge stayed just below halfway mark. I'm really impressed with K-seal. I bought the beautiful Buick with the head gasket blown for $100.00. paid $33.00 for the K-seal so if the repair doesn't last a long time, I won't be losing a lot. I will keep you posted as I am starting my 5th month of driving it after using K-plus. I will update periodically.
It's always bad when I spill my bottle of gaussian blur, especially on the paint of my car. It's really hard to remove for repainting, sadly it's like a vinicity effect, if I put my hand there, it also becomes blurry, so the only option is to have gloves on. Bummer.

Great, thorough job from beginning to end. I took my 2009 Subaru forester in to our local dealership for a transmission seal leak. I jacked it up and saw it was leaking from the tail end of the standard transmission. Asked them to replace it. They “diagnosed” it, charged me for that but did not replace the seal as they wanted to book me in again to do the job (after two weeks from when I first went in…they cancelled first appt.). After paying $125 for the diagnosis they wanted to book me in again a week later (3 weeks of leaking) and said the head gasket was leaking also. This was a $4000 quote for the head gasket, plus additional water pump and timing gasket which they did not quote me on but we’re planning to do. They said they didn’t want to scare me a way. I asked if they did any tests for the blown head gasket but said they did not have time and it was just a visual notice of oil. Needless to say I bought the $14 seal, did the transmission fix myself and contacted a Subaru engine rebuild garage and they quote a complete rebuilt engine installed for &5000. Going to try this head gasket fix and if it does not work may go with the complete engine swap.

Chris, not sure how you manage to make an even better and more comprehensive repair/how to video than all your others, but this was a tremendous one. Very informative. Prior to watching this, I would have been skeptical about using any of these head gasket leak fix products. Now, If I were facing a similar situation, (low value vehicle, with head gasket leak, and unjustifiable repair cost) I would definitely try these products. Just preventing the overheating and coolant loss would have been a big win, but going for an additional 2 years and 10k miles was a tremendous endorsement for these products-or at least the one used. Great job on this long term project video and all the great content your putting out. Keep up the great work!

@@shane250 Depends on the sealant used. I personally prefer steelseal with no added fibre material it is safe to leave it running in the coolant until a proper repair can be performed. I have a 99 Camry that developed a leak in in the first cylinder. I used the Barr’s sealer shown in the video and it worked immediately though filling it was a pain because how thick it is. Been driving about five months with no problems at all. It will buy enough time until I can get a proper fix.

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima SL 2.5 liter. 147k miles. Had a substantial head gasket leak. Had milky white oil on the dipstick, as well as up in the breather tube assembly, almost all the way to the mass air flow sensor! I would hardly start, and smoked up the entire roadway when it did finally start, with thick white smoke. Not to mention, I was having to add coolant everyday. My radiator cracked, which caused more trouble. Ended up finding one of my thermostats was completely froze shut! I changed the thermostats, changed the oil, and add a bottle of Blue Devil Pour and Go Head Gasket Repair. I followed the directions to the letter. I have since driven the car app 1200 miles without any problems at all! My oil still looks brand new, and no overheating issues! Hats off to Blue Devil!
Great video. Anyone who knows cars a little has had to help a gramps, a single mom, a kid on this one. I think the mechanism of sodium silicate is probably not just an evaporative deposition, but chemically triggered too. If so, the gasket or sealer (Subaru) might work better or worse. Not really sure but „water glass“ silica has a complex chemistry to become water proof.

If you're car is worth $1500 i doubt anyone will be able to spend 30 000$ on a newer car, so yea, fix it if the bodywork is in good shape. yeah the dealer is going to rip you off every single time. A good mechanic can do the job just as well for way less money
Having problems with my engine. Watched this video 3 times already and I'm going to try this. Just wanted to add, this was the best how to do video I have ever watched. I am a 70 years old woman and this was so easy to follow. Excellent job.
I agree ☝️
howd it go?
Did it work?
we need an update!
Did it work ???
You have completely changed my mind about head gasket sealer, I have a beater that I dont want to spend all that time to replace the head gasket and before this I thought it was my only option, thank you ChrisFix!
Just blown my head gasket. Sealer 20€ and new gasket 15€. Takes like 30min to take old out. But it is still very good video for some cases where proper repair aint option
Did Chris just really get himself a VIPER? 😮
Good lord are we ever going to have fun watching Chris Ripp around in it :O
I don't know any viper you can buy for $21k
22:05 has a car under a red Dodge car cover... 👀
reflection at 30:07 also shows a Viper!
@@leocui03 damn , Chris played himself by super cleaning his cars 😂
@@leocui03 When he revs it at 30:11 you can also see a stone or something getting pushed (Which I presume are the exhaust gasses) near the rear of the car which would add up to the side mounted exhausts vipers have. The mic also gets a little distorted, which could be explained by the engine sound coming straight out the side.
Its a volvo five cylinder probably. They sound similar to a v10 viper especially at higher rpms
10yrs ago I poured Blue Devil into my 2004 Subaru Impreza 2.5, due to a blown head gasket, 124,000 miles later and to this day still running strong. 😬👍
Hell yeah
Was it leaking oil by chance?
@@ricardomundi16 it was not leaking oil. 😬👍
I would have done that but the brake lines were starting to rust and the car was just junk at this point haha
@@chrisfix I have junked a Jaguar X Type just about the same time.. they just rust!
me too, 100%
THANK YOU! I HAVE ZERO CAR KNOWLEDGE. You explained so very thoroughly and with care. I saw a car for sale that needed head gasket replaced. I wanted to use the last of my funds to purchase. I now feel more comfortable to weigh my options.
İ watched your video, and i bought same head gasket sealer... Now my 2010 prius perfectly fine, no leak no knocking at the morning... Also no check engine light anymore... Thanks Chris 👍👍
I'm glad the sealer worked out for you!
Can we take a minute to appreciate all the effort and quality Chris puts into EVERY video? WOW. Well done once again, Chris!

Yes it is awesome! I know I would have forgotten all about the 2nd video & would have left it at that
I had been watching every video I could find to choose the best one.
Thanks awesome! Thanks for the info!

@@19ShilohK I know right man even with the gasket going that’s a hell of a rally car if you can find a junk engine for it

I was taught to remove the thermostat and run the sealant. Then reinstall the thermostat.
Good video
I think you got your new car cheap because it is so blurry. Blurry cars are always cheaper!
It costed him 21 grand…
It's always bad when I spill my bottle of gaussian blur, especially on the paint of my car. It's really hard to remove for repainting, sadly it's like a vinicity effect, if I put my hand there, it also becomes blurry, so the only option is to have gloves on. Bummer.
@@FakeExotic he said " I couldn't resist when I saw this deal" so 21 grand must be cheaper than average

I want you guys to get the best info and best videos possible!
@@chrisfix and it definitely shows! Never seen any other channel go through such lengths as a two year timeframe to test out things like this; if at all, the best a channel would do is probably just say “yeah I’ve tested it, worked for about two years, 10k miles so I’d recommend it,” but you always break it down so much and make it extremely easy to follow along and understand the videos and the steps and components that will be associated with the job. It’s amazing, really🙌🏽long time fan here, and very much looking forward to all future videos❤️🔥keep up the great work!

It's very hard to find someone with the dedication or persistence to do a 2 year test now a days, it's channels like this that keep people on the road! Keep it up Chris!

Although, this is just one of 12,000 other similar comments I have to say: Chris, you are absolutely phenomenal!!! To do a long term detailed follow up is exceptional in and of itself, but your content knowledge and masterful presentation style are leagues ahead of others. I just subscribed to your channel without even looking at anything else you've done -- i know I'll be learning from anything you publish! Kudos man. Next stage for you are TED talks, young man!
I always believed gasket sealer clogged your radiator. Glad to know these new ones are a safe and effective option
This video is exactly what i needed to see, my car was in the exact same situation. Coolant leak but no drips underneath and no steam out the exhaust, so it was driving me crazy, after the video i tried the funnel tip and had bubbles, put in some gasket seal and now my car can hold it's drink. Thanks so much Chris
Any update about your car? does the sealant still work?
what sealer? any updates ? thanks 👍

29:10 : the most important tip of the video. Once the head gasket get sealed up, change the oil (and the oil filter) right away to prevent wear and tear.
How about the coolant?
@@shane250 Depends on the sealant used. I personally prefer steelseal with no added fibre material it is safe to leave it running in the coolant until a proper repair can be performed. I know a guy who has just added a bottle when he changes coolant every 2 years, car has been used daily for about 7 years now.

It's been 11 months, head gasket still good?
Great video. Anyone who knows cars a little has had to help a gramps, a single mom, a kid on this one. I think the mechanism of sodium silicate is probably not just an evaporative deposition, but chemically triggered too. If so, the gasket or sealer (Subaru) might work better or worse. Not really sure but „water glass“ silica has a complex chemistry to become water proof.
