  • Rodney Scott cooked his first whole pig at 11 years old, sealing his fate to become a barbecue pit master. Today, he runs the pit his parents - Roosevelt and Ella - opened in a converted garage in 1972: Scott's BBQ, in Hemingway, South Carolina. I live in Albuquerque, we used to have an excellent barbecue place called The Cube. Damn good slow roasted barbecue, but it closed. We don't have nothing here but those damn chain restaurants or barbecue places that dry out the meat and had gobs of sauce to make soggy-ass meat that has no good barbecue flavor.

Mr. Scott, I am watching this video again and getting somewhat emotional. Years ago, I watched this, or you appeared on the Man Fire Food show and I thought "I can do that." You inspired me to build my own pit and I have done an annual neighborhood BBQ right here in Apex, NC, with a 100 pound hog for 6 years. Had 120+ people in 2019. You literally inspired me and added a great dimension to my cooking and my life. Thank you.

    Lordy! Lordy!
Rodney, you got my mouth watering like a hose!!
It's been YEARS since I had good ol Southern BBQ.
I used to live in Austin, TX (1962) and there was a BBQ place (actually a small store) on my home from work. It was owned by an old black gentleman, (probably about 75... not near as 'old' now that I'm 76). For 50 Cents/Lb I could get could (and always would) get a couple of pounds of brisket. I could take a bite, just let it sit on my tongue and it would just DISSOLVE and I'd swallow. I dearly hope that Heaven has food that tastes that good. IT WAS DELISHUS!!
If I ever have the chance to travel to your area of the country, I WII DROP IN AND ENJOY!
    Thanks for the video.
Now... excuse me while I dry my mouth. :>) :>)

I am going to retire my grill and move south. I can sometimes tell how good something will be. This will be amazing. I have slow smoked ribs on my smoker all day on a day off. If I did this for a living I would not need a day off. I would do this in a heartbeat. Thank You, God Bless.

Their honesty, devotion, and dignity is moving. If I'm in the neighborhood, I will definitely stop by.
