    Having grown up as a kid in Eastern N Carolina, and eaten at the Sky Light Inn many many times...... watching this and not having any is a terrible form of torture. It is the best bbq. And my mouth is watering. God bless the Skylight Inn.

    I live about 30 mins from Ayden. I have family there, as a matter of fact in the first few seconds of the video, on the bottom right corner behind all of those business there’s a neighborhood, that’s where they live. This bring me so much pride..

    This is one of the best features Munchies has ever put out, I'd really like to see more of stuff like this. And I'm not saying that because I don't like a lot of your other stuff or something, this is just particularly good.

      Wow, love this episode. I'm a bar and restaurant owner from New York that has owned a vacation house in New Bern, NC for 13 years . Every visit to the house over the years has included a trip to the Skylight. I'm retiring to NC in July 2019. I'm sure a weekly visit for a Bbq fix will be on my agenda thereafter. Keep the tradition alive!

    As a worker: We now have 2 locations, one coming on the way. We still have Skylight, but Sam opened his own exclusive BBQ restaurant in Winterville, NC. Sam Jones BBQ. And we're opening another Sam Jones in the capital, Raleigh. Feel free to come by @Munchies. By the way, I'm a Dishwasher/Chopper here in Sam Jones. Tyler Lackey. And I can say, Chopping the quarters is a pain because we have to be fast, and consistent to debone and defat the BBQ by hand.

I like Texas barbecue just fine, and I think it's gotten more famous internationally. But Eastern NC whole hog is what you need. Something you can't recreate at home. Hell, the best places aren't even in real cities in NC--they're in hog country. And every real North Carolinian will travel for it.

    God bless the people of the backwoods, fly-over country, the bayous and the hills. These folks are the spirit of America - they are her pride, not her faults. I hope this culture, this tradition, and these people of all colors and creeds never die. THIS is "Southern Pride." It's not "white supremacy," or some bullshit like that - it's a family legacy, a heritage, a hard-won profession, something you face for the sake of your forefathers, something you suffer for the sake of your kids. It has nothing to do with race, it has everything to do with love for your community, your family, and yourself. People work too hard these days to care about the color of another's skin. Plenty of black folk doing this same thing, scratching out a living using skills and knowledge that would take a hundred years to explain, just like many white folk from the country. At the things that matter, we ain't too much different, if different at all. Respect to all folks who keep the old fires burning.

      Stadium ARTs hahaha. Owner? Psh.

    • @BobPapadopoulos
      @BobPapadopoulos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +New Day That's not logical at all. There is absolutely no rational basis, much less moral or ethical duty, for someone to give ownership of their family business to an unrelated employee based simply on seniority. His father, you note, still works there himself. Giving one of his employees ownership of a business his family started BEFORE James worked there over his own son, who himself has spent a proportionally larger part of his life there, is not "giving credit". That's handing away your family legacy.

    • @BobPapadopoulos
      @BobPapadopoulos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +yung tuna By that logic, let's imagine a grandmother who lives in a house that was built by her own father's two hands. She raises her hard-working, loving family there. Then she leaves it to them, and they started to raise their own family there while she stays there with them. But let's say the grandmother hired a black man to help her son mow the lawn and he kept that job for years.
      By that logic, her family should get out and leave it to the guy mowing the lawn. Nevermind that he doesn't have any more financial or sentimental ties to it than they do and has been paid fairly for his work. Nevermind that it puts her family out of the home that their forebearers built and maintained with their sweat and toil. He deserves it more because they're white.

    Real Americans. Why do I call them REAL Americans? Because they still hold on to their tradition, they aren't worried about what's "new" or "flashy". America is all about tradition, about rebellion, about pioneering, and about doing our own thing our own way and I think most of us have lost that and it's sad. Bottom line, we need more people like this, and SOON.

    • @Gonke24
      @Gonke24 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So you start off on saying America is about tradition. I agree.... Then you go off talking about pioneering and rebellion... You do realize those are the precursors to change right? I live in America, something's got to give.
