- Brave or foolish? I bought a Mini Paceman from Bradford which didn't have any keys. Our seller had inherited it from an uncle who had passed away and apparently they couldn't find the keys but did have the logbook. I knew I could source a key relatively inexpensively and thought however this ended up, it would make some good content for you all!

I feel sorry for anyone who is legitimately trying to sell a genuine car in Bradford. It must be so frustrating.

Or at the seaside I've had my car up for sale on Autotrader, Gumtree and Cars and Classic and I've had 2 time wasters that said they were coming then cancelled at the last minute. A lot of people think all the cars must be rotten. The funny thing is it's not got a bit of rust anywhere on it.
That's what the local population doesn't realise. The mentality being it's your fault for being stupid.

My son bought a car from Bradford. It broke down on the way home. Son demanded a refund. The dealer refused. Son took dealer to court which took months. Won in the end.
My son just bought from Sheffield cars fucked dealer. It giving money back got to go through court! How long roughly did it take please?
Mate had the same thing with a truck. Luton. Needless to say what the sellers name was, I’m sure you can guess. Anyway, it was so rotten underneath, including the back axle, it Leaked all the oil out from the back differential. Was within the 30
Day period. Abdul Mohammed refused to refund him until I pointed out that it had failed its mot with loads of problems, yet the one he had put on it had no advisory’s whatsoever. Called him out on his fake mots and he refunded. That was a 10k truck.
@@davezeraschi7936Courts are underfunded at the moment and it's getting worse as they're not a government spending priority. Expect 12 - 18 months to get before a judge and hope the dealer pays up.
Also if you paid with CC or finance, even a partial payment of just £1 then you can claim the full amount back from them and it becomes their problem.
@@davezeraschi7936 it can take months but as long as the dealer would not repair or acted unreasonably then you have a number of statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which u can enforce through the CC. Use the moneyclaim online system its quicker, and ask for summary judgment if the trader does not respond to the summons or submits a groundless defence. good luck. Edit dont forget to ask for costs of the claim and any advice you paid for, and interest at the statutory rate of 8%

I once bought a car from Bradford - I didn't think I was taking a chance as it was a main dealer. No, I was wrong. Total red flag now regardless of who the seller is.

Last Log Book issue date: 8th March 2024. Yeah I think your theory is right. He bought a lemon, found out it's a lemon, chucked out the keys then made some up some story and sold it on to an unsuspecting buyer. I wouldn't even be surprised if it was clocked. No engine should look like that at 55K miles. No one would let a car go for a quarter of their retail price unless they know it's knackered.
Unsuspecting buyer? The buyer was a twat and shouldn't be buying second hand cars if he can't perform due diligence. The buyer was also greedy, expecting to pay well under market value then expecting a good example of the car.
No one with a brain would buy one either.

Don't think he even found out it's a lemon, he probably knew all along. He probably only paid a grand for it in the first place. Despite what the log book might say, it will have had about 20 owners, all passing it on for a quick £200 profit until it eventually found its final mug. That sort of seat wear on a 50k car says it all.

Went to look at a Mercedes car at a trader in Bradford. Every warning light on it lit up when I started it, I think the matrix display is probably still scrolling though fault codes. Walked away.
Went to look at a Harley Trike in Bradford, seller made it out to be in show condition. It was anything but and looked like it had stood in the sea. Also the backbox shown in the ad was missing. When I asked to see it the guy brought out a non-matching one. Walked away.
Took the decision never to view anything for sale in Bradford ever again.

Best end to that car is a as a stripper. It would break into £500. It will never be nice. It was worth more when still together as Icarus knew. Hats off to you for admitting every red flag in the book was there! Of course Its easy in hindsight! Been there done that as has anyone in the motor trade! The worst part of that car isn't the engine, you can bolt another one in, its the rat crap. That's the smell in the interior and the damaged seats cause. The wiring loom will be hell to sort out, loads of stuff wont work, (hence fuse box lid off) and frankly the things a bio hazard to anyone working on it. Really really great channel with honest content that is compulsive viewing. Fantastic insight into the motor trade and what its really like. EVERY CAR IS A GAMBLE!

I used to work at a ford dealer during the late 80's, a ford escort mark iv diesel came in for engine issues under warranty. however the owner was a sales rep and hadn't got it serviced after the free 1,500 mile check up. when the mechanic took the sump off whilst car on the ramp he showed me the contents and scooped it out with his hand. I can only describe it as thick black Swarfega ! it had done about 30,000 miles without a service. needless to say customer wasn't happy that Ford rejected the warranty claim for a new engine
About 40 years ago I helped put an engine in a Chevy P/U that had gone about 40 k miles without an oil change. V8 gas. Probably a 350 or 305. Dealer pulled the valve covers, saw the sludge and said "nope". This was in the US. And the oils then were not as good as they are today.
The only good thing coming out of Bradford is the road 🏡 home.

Not really so relevant in this case, but when buying cars I always want to know the brand and condition of the tyres, if it’s the cheapest of brands then I just it has not been maintained to a high standard. If it’s premium tyres purchased during the current owners ownership then that’s a huge bonus and indicates that the owner was prepared to spend money and keep things right.
I always check the tyres when I go looking for cars as they’re the easiest way to check how the car has been maintained. If it’s wearing Michelin / premium brands then the cars been looked after well.

Personally I think the subscriber was aware of a problem with the car , hence no keys ( questionable) , I hope you at least get what you paid for it
Got my car recently from Bradford (I'm from Liverpool), (I should mention this is my first car) the clutch went within 2 weeks, the gearbox bearings needed replacing and my boot latch broke after a few days, tire seem to be run flats on the driver's side front which looks like its already been repaired (didn't notice this) and the front tires are cracked but legal.
Just got the oil and filter changed as it was black.
Took this as a lesson and gained some experience from local mechanics for the future
I bought an xr2 mk2 in 1990 in Bradford, took it back because it was leaking oil, and the guy pulled a gun on me, then 2 months later he came and stole the car off me, ended up in court and i got compensation of £3300
I used to go to Bradford car auctions,, near bally parade in the late 90s, Enlightening, but got some cheap motors.
There are places in the country that have been on the avoid radar for a lot of years like don't buy from Scotland rust problems, don't buy from London to many stops and starts wearing out brakes clutches etc. And void Birmingham, Bradford, Leicester. And cars from seaside towns more rust.

On your passenger kick panel JBE/FUSE Box with no power to it. Try to see if it's possibly set in "Transport Mode" which can be set to activate or deactivate the Transport Mode by using a BMW / Mini software specific OBDII diagnostics scanner. I worked in Taxi insurance in 2016. At the time there was (and probably still is!) a crisis in Bradford where all their taxi drivers seemed to keep crashing in to each other. So much so, we couldn’t insure most for less than £6k a year, and that was a driver with clean history. Our broker decided to stop quoting them all together as they were deemed too high a risk. Have always been wary of cars from Bradford since that lol

Never buy a car from certain areas. I have come across some really dodgy dealers in Birmingham, but I once looked a low mileage car on the south coast which was owned by a Chinese restaurant owner, that had thread-bare rear carpets, and a knackered engine. The dealers were closed by Trading Standards a few months later for clocked cars.
Big Asian population in Bradford many of them have a garden or roadside full of undesirable cars and own a flatbed car transporter.

The sludge in that engine would soon have caused catastrophic damage - but it was still running. Huge amount of labour to clean the sludge out but a diy type could do it plus replacement parts such as the turbo oil feed & drain and possibly a new turbo cartridge. Not worth your while but maybe for someone else... Trouble is you would always life in fear that there would still be sludge in some nook or cranny that comes back to bite you later.
Took the head off (19:35) nope, that's the cam cover. Crankshafts (20:05) nope, camshafts. Apart from that, as I'm sure you have gathered from the comments below, never buy a car without at least seeing and starting it.
Shouldn't pay more than a bag of sand for a car with that back story. The guy, Ikluas, or whatever would probably have taken £ 1,000 that for it.

A few years ago I took my mate to Birmingham to view a few cars. I have to say that I've never seen so much s***e with wheels, and some very dodgy car dealers. I am currently looking for a £10k car for him, and I told him that we aren't going to look at any cars in that city. It's a thing with motors from Birmingham, Bradford etc .....
Most used cars from these areas have been through the whole of a family then are that knacked that no one from the area will buy them

It’s been failing MOT’s for an airbag light and damaged windscreen repeatedly.
Most like previously accident damaged.

I bought my 2003 Volvo XC90 from a Lithuanian trader in Bradford. Not everyone is a crook. I'm Bradford born myself but I live in Halifax these days. That engine is seriously sludged up. It clearly hasn't had an oil change in years. I think the right rear tyre is the original one as you said 3614 at 5:16 which is indeed the date code (36th week in 2014) which would be about right with the 64 reg.

The reason for the gungy oil is using the wrong oil.
Oil specs are given for a reason.
I do my own oil change because 3rd party garages use any old crap and charge you top money.
It's actually down to not changing the oil rather than using the wrong grade.
These are my thoughts too, although missing an oil service is not a good thing I have never seen that sort of crud on a low mileage engine even if it was poorly maintained. Must have had cheap oil or something added to it.
@@mikemarks906 I would also agree that a modern car could drive 55k miles without an oil change and still not show that level of oil degradation, particularly if a synthetic oil had been used, which leads me to agree with others that the 55k miles is not genuine. The recommended oil change period on my diesel is 25k miles and it could certainly do double that without any significant degradation.
only way id buy car from that part country is buying from a main dealer, three weeks ago got 2015 i20 from a Hyundai garage in colne just down the road. it was a car from old guy who retired from that garage and full service history from that garage, really good price around £600 cheaper than the others, the wheels got refurbished, and rear arch was caught on something a slight bump scrape but the car went in for paint also and come out great. buying a car not from main dealer in that area for me be like going to Birmingham to buy a car as lots dodgy showrooms. traveled north got the car cheaper as very few options for sale for the top spec i20 with the engine i wanted just a few and they sold very fast other cost more but no paint shop or refurbish wheels and not a full Hyundai service history. ended up with a great car heated seats,wheel,pan roof and whole list other things still learning like adaptive cruise control with limiter, a car 53k miles it runs like new everything works on it, but if it was not Hyundai garage id not parted with that amount money as seen plenty garages i though id no buy from there and places i passed through on train. but was a nice 9 hour day drive through peaks really put car through it paces and so far not an issue, some places around that area gave me same vibe of parts Birmingham

Those bits under the cylinder head are camshafts not crankshafts.

I had a BMW 1 series prob same engine. Bought it from a guy who said he had serviced it himself every year. Turns out he was full of shit and the engine oil looked just like that!!
