It’s hard to get a decent car from BCA these days. It looks as if almost every car, regardless of grade, needs work. All this started when they stopped their physical auctions.
Should imagine this has been involved in some dukes of hazard style persuits in it's time,it certainly hasn't had someone tickling the accelerator to save fuel.
BMW 1 Series are owned in many cases by not typical BMW drivers who the main attraction is it’s entry level and it’s the badge they want and the services and maintenance costs get skipped
Only go to physical auctions, you could have reved it up in line and heard it knocking, your lucky a rod didn't make a break for freedom when you gave it some, a little tip is at auction an expensive (ish) car with just a basic check is very dodgy. You should know there's absolutely no comeback with a basic check.
One of these came into my mate's garage recently with a similar fault. Tappy engine noise at certain revs, even when stationary. Removed the oil filter and lots of tell tale silvery gold particles. Main/big end bearing? Still sat there 2 months later waiting for a decision. Awful really considering how well engineered beemers were. My 2004 e61 525d has 275k miles and runs sweet as a nut.
Engine smoking is usually the rocker cover gasket. They are a common issue. I had mine done under warranty but it would be around £700-£800 by a dealer.
These engine had big issues with oil starvation. Track days hard corners throw oil to side and many of them have been destroyed that way. I actually had a 135 engine other year but guy bought it... he'd broke his on track.. oil starvation. If its just bottom end then its a relatively easy job for your guys
that puppy is knocking its nuts off. least of your worries but the badges are for the 50 years of BMW M . Not standard on that car but they were on a lot of cars sold in the anniversary year. they are probably e bay cheapies as a full set from BM would be about £300.00
I've only bought one car at auction a blue swift sport zc32 and whilst I had confidence the engine would be ok the brakes were fried and had to be totally replaced. The car is still going and doing fine but it was my first and last Auction experience i likened the experience to gambling it's all risk and luck of which I prefer to avoid.
I feel your pain. I have lost all faith in BMW this year. I have had a 330e (b48) go bang and a Mini N47. Both at 50k miles, full history. I still have the Mini here and it’s mint. Trying to find someone to help with a bottom end rebuild. I won’t be buying another BMW product. A shame as they are good cars but not after 7/8 years of age. Glad you got out relatively unscathed. Enjoy your candour and the channel. Subbed. 😊
My brother is a recovery truck driver. He tells me the two manufacturers cars he recovers most frequently are 1) Range Rover 2 BMW Ironically he also says he recovers more BMW GS's than any other motorbike. I should add he has nil interest in cars, other than that needed to do his job.
@@rickp2293 2 cylinders failed - massive blow by. More gases from the oil filler than the exhaust. New engine required. Just a brilliant car but flawed in as much as the first engine start can be at 50mph 10 minutes into your journey. No one will rebore anymore (well on this engine) so new one required. Don’t Google b48 engine issues - it’s scary. Glad yours is all good. As I say they are great cars. This one may have been mistreated by previous owner. Luckily it happened at 4 months so it was returned and exchanged. If I owned one I think I’d drop the oil every 5k minimum. It’s not just the 330e application the b48 seems to have an issue up to 2021 build when it changed to g48 iirc?
They brought back timing chains to replace belts but they seem even less reliable, with wear on the guides and stretching of links being all too common a fault.
It's amazing that rain sensor isn't standard really. Having said that my 12 year old SLK has one and it's rubbish compared with the ones I had on Renaults going back to 2007.
I don't know why so many people get the horsepower wrong. It is 320hp as stated by the manufacturer, not 315. Or are BMW wrong? I don't think so, after all they made the car.
It may not be as much fun but ordinary cars as far less likely to have been thrashed within an inch of their lives and probably more profitable overall. Love the channel btw
Bottom end rebuild. New crank. Send it back it's £4-6k bill. Never buy a n55 without testing it. Sold my m135i 25k miles and new owner blew it at top speed and revs on track on 3rd session 😅 dynod at 420/660nm
If the BMW has been service at a garage which is not a dealership they don’t know how to put it on the system.-have that problem with mine. They are too technical.
Well that BMW lived up to it’s name - Break My Wallet 😂 shame you had to lose out on it, but that’s typical of German cars. I had an Audi and a Merc in the past, both with knackered gearboxes. Since going to Lexus, never had any problems whatsoever.
When you found the spare key with a BMW tag on it. Straight away i thought it's been to bmw dealer Who's told them to get rid of it down the auction , which he did

10:30 - it comes out cold yes! If you turn the little cold hot knob between the front top vents then you can control if its hot or cold.
Chin up kidda! Looking forward to the next video where you win big. Don't give up & stay well.
Should imagine this has been involved in some dukes of hazard style persuits in it's time,it certainly hasn't had someone tickling the accelerator to save fuel.
BMW 1 Series are owned in many cases by not typical BMW drivers who the main attraction is it’s entry level and it’s the badge they want and the services and maintenance costs get skipped
great video i guess it happens at times but again very honest all credit there
What a shame mate.Feel for you, hope you get something from it
The boot badge is genuine. It's the bmw anniversary badge
50th Anniversary 🎉
Yeah it’s not genuine to a 2014 car though. Doesn’t matter now
@toms4097 you mean it's not the right badge for that year but it is genuine I.e bmw do make a badge like that
@@DaleSteel yes correct I mean it’s a genuine badge but isn’t supposed to be on a car 8 years before the 50th anniversary
I bought a few cars from Bca in the past they are always shite
You got out of it very lucky there
Only go to physical auctions, you could have reved it up in line and heard it knocking, your lucky a rod didn't make a break for freedom when you gave it some, a little tip is at auction an expensive (ish) car with just a basic check is very dodgy. You should know there's absolutely no comeback with a basic check.
dont worry joe theres always a stick in the mud lol great content.
The fact that the mots were saying tyres and brakes, says to me it’s been trashed on a track and drifted around the local Tesco car park.
I love your videos and honesty 👍
Oooh that is painful. Roll on 100k!
Chaved up Performance Beemer For Sale at a Auction house screams hidden issues 😢
The issue with the N55 is oil starvation on hard cornering. Seen plenty of these going tick tick boom. Baffled sump or B58 :)
Engine smoking is usually the rocker cover gasket. They are a common issue. I had mine done under warranty but it would be around £700-£800 by a dealer.
It is such a shame, because this BMW looks to be in great condition.
Hopefully your next one will turn a decent profit for you Joe❤.
Love this guys honesty. Great channel
These engine had big issues with oil starvation. Track days hard corners throw oil to side and many of them have been destroyed that way. I actually had a 135 engine other year but guy bought it... he'd broke his on track.. oil starvation. If its just bottom end then its a relatively easy job for your guys
anything with 35i in the title of a bmw , means 3 litre twin turbo, which normally means a jb4 to 400 bhp then thrashed
Still enjoyed this video - a good lesson for all about the assured reports at auction!
Sounded like bottom end to me. We used to say knocking it's toss off.
💯 Rod Knock
Defo not Rod knock it only makes that noise when he revs it Rod knock is constant
that puppy is knocking its nuts off. least of your worries but the badges are for the 50 years of BMW M .
He tells me the two manufacturers cars he recovers most frequently are
1) Range Rover
2 BMW
Ironically he also says he recovers more BMW GS's than any other motorbike.
I should add he has nil interest in cars, other than that needed to do his job.
Have 330e 87k no issues, shadow edition
What happened to yours?
did you stick with BMW's recommended service plan or do it properly with annual oil & filter changes or per 10k miles?
Some BMWs are incredibly reliable others are not. All about what engine you have.
Tell your Mrs she needs to iron your T-shirts 😂
I know 0 about cars but I've always bought from auctions. I go 2 weeks b4 and 1 wk b4 so I know who the trade is; If they don't bid , I don't bid.
Shame about the engine problem, but the car looks amazing though. Deffo would love to own a m sport BMW. Have a good Friday Joe and team.
Drop the sump and fit new shells if cranks not scored.
Not going to help if its been through rufford ford !....
Congratulations 🎉
They brought back timing chains to replace belts but they seem even less reliable, with wear on the guides and stretching of links being all too common a fault.
I'd be interested to hear back on what was actually wrong with it.
I'm glad it worked out for you as best it could 👍
It's amazing that rain sensor isn't standard really. Having said that my 12 year old SLK has one and it's rubbish compared with the ones I had on Renaults going back to 2007.
Japanese cars had it in the 90s 😊
I don't know why so many people get the horsepower wrong. It is 320hp as stated by the manufacturer, not 315. Or are BMW wrong? I don't think so, after all they made the car.
Actually they are wrong a lot of the time, if you actually test the car they usually make more or less power. Smart arse
Straight away i thought it's been to bmw dealer
Who's told them to get rid of it down the auction , which he did
Not true even if it was perfect, it’s too old to retail at BMW
Just drop the engine oil sump and fit new big end shells , jobs a good en.
I had a 335i and the main area of concern buying these are the injectors and turbos....... I found out what limp mode was 😢
I’ve always thought of an essential report as just that: i.e. has it got the essentials like four wheels and an engine. If you want to know how they actually perform - that’s extra.
