- Digging out 2 x Mini Cooper Barn Finds. Abandoned 1 owner cars. Will they run? In this barnfind episode Jonny Smith heads to an overgrown garden in Bedfordshire where the late owner had bought and driven two generations of Mini Cooper before mysteriously parking them up after 10 years of use. It takes a few hours just to clear the trees and bushes in front of the garage door!

What a beaut little mini. And I do enjoy the episodes that you name after me. 😊
My Carden!
My Cardigan?
Car pervert ?
My Garden?
But it wasn't a car den episode!
ITS NO NAME FULL SUSPENSION MOUNTAIN BIKE GUY!! Spotted in the wild! 14:30
So true. He did 3 flybys in total and then stopped for a cold can.
@@TheLateBrakeShow probably needed it to lube up his chain
AMAZING comment hahahaaa!
I was just about to say the same 😂
Dammit, someone got this comment in before me…and here I was thinking I would beat them to it being several hours in the future halfway round the world…you should of given him a bigger cameo Johnny!!😆
I picked up a $600 1971 Mini in NZ from a helicopter mechanic coming back from Antarctica. I was just coming out of the South Pole. My girlfriend and I drove that Mini all over the South Island of New Zealand and to Auckland. Great memories of a stellar car.
The girl friend is now my bride of 22 years ;)
Wow, would love to know more about Antarctica (and the mini ofc!).
There is a film about a mini in NZ called goodbye pork pie. Might be worth a look given your story 😊
I thought that Mini was your girlfriend? What happens to the Mini?
@@NwoRunhe married it 🤷
@@alxgu198🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mini mini where r you ?
sooo here for this og mini 😍😍
Actual TH-cam is a mini fan 😮
Christ even youtube is a fan of the late brake show
Skibidi toilet😊
That red Cooper just needs to go back on the road, and im truly amazed at what still sits in people's garages waiting for you to let them out ❤
Clever tip Jonny. When a battery is completely dead. Take the terminals off and connect to jump pack and it'll start. If the dead battery is still connected it'll just sapp the charge out of the jump pack
10:10 is that dog insured to drive the tow car???😂
Ha! I spotted that.
Made me laugh 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Had the same thought!
Came here to write the same 😂
All that hard work and perseverance throughout the day was worth it. Great episode, Jonny. Top viewing, thank you!👍🏻
Tree stump - Better than any padlock.
Great barn find, Jonny. As always with these episodes, as interesting as the cars are, it more intriguing about the reasons for them being there in the first place. Fascinates me!🚘💛
I would buy both of these in a heartbeat ❤
Not that you need to know this, but went for milk today and wore a fleece that is identical to the BFF. A man in the queue said "thats like what the bloke on late brake show wears" 😂
Brilliant episode Jonny!
Seriously? The fleece is becoming that notorious!
@@TheLateBrakeShowthe fleece is a celeb of its own now
I have been saying for years.. 20 of them it seems.. BMW should be done under the trades description act for calling the vehicle they are selling a "Mini" which it absulutly is not.
His BFF game is strong 💪
@williamarmstrong7199 I'd agree with you there! If one needs a bigger car, buy a different model! A Mini should be just that. The hint is in the name. The same with the Fiat 500. They've bloated it beyond what it's supposed to be, a small city runabout.
Wow what a great find, I hope they go on to be enjoyed or find good homes 👌👍 thank-you Alan & Margaret
This was a magic show. Love these mini's having grown up with a 1971 model in "Hairy Lime". Keep up the great work Johnny.
Great find Jonny. Good effort with the gardening and getting the Mini running. Big thank you to Alan 👍 Hope they both find new homes
Yet again a thoroughly enjoyable barn find. This is the best car content on the net for me. I just love a barn find and would love to see a follow up on some of these cars. Jonny’s sense of humour is 👌🏻
I had a red 1991 Mini Cooper H810 HHJ in 1998 and it was a carburettor model. Absolutely loved that car! Lots of memories watching this
I really enjoyed this episode. My first car was an old mini. I'd love to restore one at some point. Mine had a LCB exhaust manifold, MG inlet, K&N air filter, uprated carb, Peco back box. The noise that thing made was epic. ❤
I really enjoyed this one! The trick of rocking the car in gear, to unlock a sticky starter motor has got me out of a few pickles over the years!
Had a roomate with a new mini in 69 and try as he might he didn't kill us all in it. I drove it a few times and you just smile driving one taking the windest road to wherever your going. Cheers 🇨🇦
I've owned a 1963 MINI Clubman woody, my first, followed by 2011, 2013, and 2017 hardtops. The 17 is my daily driver and I hope it's the last car I buy. This vid was a special joy to watch, with MINIs old and new side by side, and obviously well-loved. Thanks, Jonny, again.
Wow brilliant Jonny love the minis can’t believe the condition of the 90s mini love it wow what a well looked after barn find with a few quid then 2 👊🏻👊🏻
What a nice find...loved the mini...is in really good condition...just needed some love..thanks for the video!
I remember in the 80s
I used to pick up 60s and 70s minis for 25 quid i had loads of them got a few for freebies too i loved the go kart handleing of them its one if those cars you realy have to drive .
Stunning Mini. I have fond memories of my Mini 1000 and the ice cream tub lid I strategically stuck just behind the grill to prevent the water getting all over the ignition. At least all the parts were dirt cheap and everything is easy to work on.
Nearly everything… getting the lower radiator pipe off was always a challenge!
clean up all neutral connections, battery to body and chassis to starter or run a jump lead from neutral to starter casing, not only do they fur up on the battery, but the body also, builds up fuzz.. awesome find, can't beat a classic mini, some of my best driving was done in a mini.. and so simple, didn't need the garage and to re- mortgage the house to service them.. a true people car..
Looks so similar to my red 1000 in the mid to late eighties. Same wheels, black arches, body and rook colour. Oh boy, I wish I had the dosh lying around to buy one like that and get tidied up.
Great video as always Jonny. Thanks!
Class! Nice work Johnny, enjoyed seeing that one start up. Quality background wheelie action too 😆
Absolutely fantastic. Having recently recommissioned my classic mini this was a pleasure to view. Thank you to all involved 😃
Absolutely beautiful Minis. I started out with classics after passing my test and sadly they rotted away. I currently have a 20 year old R52 Cooper convertible and a 2023 F56 Cooper SE (electric). I love Minis so much, I even named my second daughter, Mini.
My goodness those cars were loved. So worth a save, both of 'em.
If you've never had the opportunity to drive the smaller older style Minis, then you're missing out! It really is something of an experience!!!!!
I had 25 MINIs at one time.
When you think there's nothing to watch, but find there's a Barn Find Edition of TLBS! Thanks Jonny - great Sunday PM entertainment :)
💪🏽😎
I cherish all your work but especially the barn finds. I still re watch the Volvo 145, and the owners written notes. Love that stuff
Thank you. Glad you enjoy the human stories behind these cars.
Great 👍 find !!!!
I hope the lady gets these cars serviced detailed and sold
I love your barn finds but the waste of cars deteriorating
Lucky the cars were in fairly ok condition. Love to see someone like Flawless Cleaning Services Ben and his Dad clean the shed and garden
Thanks again
Great episode
Cheers 🍻
Australia 🇦🇺 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Just want to say Jonny , before I even watch this , I know it's gonna be top drawer . You and Harry are essential Sunday evening viewing for a massive car nut such as myself , and many others, I shouldn't wondef .
Cheersmatethanksmatebye 👊
That left-hand door nearly got you stumped!! Sure they didn't call you just to get some free gardening done? Thanks, Jonny. Another fun episode. Don't forget to wash the BFF.
I hope that was an old chain saw chain because it’s deffo old now.
its really good to see your progression on starting these barn finds!
I had a identical J-plate Cooper in BRG, last of the Carbs!
Brought back so many memories.
Loved that car ♥️
This got me all misty eyed , I had a BRG 91 cooper going back 25 years ago and she was my pride and joy ! Never cried over a car as much as when I had to sell her , she had exactly the same seats and clocks so the memories came flooding back .
Walked past those garages many times. Always wondered what classics were hiding inside .. nice work
What en epic find - both cars look like they were well looked after before being parkerd. Some effot Jonny, digging them both out from behind the small wood that had formed!
Good on you, Jonny, for giving Margaret back the use of her 2 garages, as well as rescuing 2 cars that are worthy projects. And all it took was half a days hard graft . 👍🏻
Good work, I'll come back to it when im ready to fit my LOF clutch and fork kit which is sat waiting. I appreciate the reuse of the calpol syringe for grease application, i have a few spare so might repurpose!
Great video, great Mini, loved how the dog used the Terios to pull out the Mini too, made me smile!
Love these, I am always itching to see whether you get them started.
Had an 82 mini as my first car, it was in terrible condition but what a fun car to drive.
What a great find! I have 2000 (W reg) classic mini and a 2001 (Y reg) BMW Mini. Would love to give the Yellow cooper a new home!
Nice ! i have the same but a year yonger so it had the rubbish injection, ditched it after 25 years for a nice big carb and tadaa now it runs like a swiss clock
This is the best car in the world :)
That Classic Mini looks really stunning!
I've just bought one the same year colour it's exactly the same
Your barn finds just get better and bettrer Jonny. I look forward to a sunday evening watching an eisode before the start of the working week. You are a legend my man 👍
Thank you so much. Really chuffed they have become part of the weekend ritual.
I just bought my first Mini ONE '06 a few weeks ago, and I am already hopelessly in love with the ol' gal. What a treat to drive!
That little red mini is absolutely gorgeous, some love put into that and it will be stunning again. The other one get it started and in for an MOT.
Great episode and a sweet little Mini. Thanks for your efforts and thanks for posting Jonny. This is one of my favourite channels.
Thanks for putting in the extra long day to get the little red machine going! Another entertaining episode.
What a cracking find, that classic looks absolutely stunning. Can’t believe they were parked up when only 10 years old.
Another cracking video, Jonny.. We practically gave away all the Minis that we took in part-exchange, back in the mid/late 90s.. Nobody wanted them! How things change.. There's a Mini Cooper RSP currently close to the top of my wishlist 🏁
kevincochrane ...if I'd been normal like typical males..I wouldn't have spent 45 years on motorbikes..and would've passed a car test which mum could never understand why her only son had to be different..her daughters drive of course..all my sisters do..if I had it should've been a mini..I'm a pensioner now..and I still ride..just a little..although now with a Freedom travel pass it will probably cease altogether in the next few years
That’s a gorgeous little car, thanks for sharing your efforts with us. Hope the owner can get it back out on the road!
Ive owned 23 proper Mini's, All in various stages of rusting out. I learnt everything i needed to know welding and mechanical wise, Replaced or patched just about every panel, Made my own steel flip front on hydraulics with new panels, Fitted a Metro turbo engine (on drum brakes!!!), deseamed three Minis and one Clubby and my favourite colour was the Vermillion Orange with a white roof.
Kid doing a wheelie in the background... perfect timing 😊
Thanks Jonny for bringing back some happy memories as that engine noise was the sound of my youth...
Great find!
Worth all the hard work to get the garage doors open.
The Classic Mini is a 1991 Mainstream Carb Cooper. It was the model between the 1990 RSP and the 1992 Single Point Injection.
The seats are ‘Racing Crayons’ fabric. Although not as popular as the earlier and later models. They are getting quite rare. I would say it’s done 29,000 miles, and was looked after.
Would love to see a follow up video on both cars! 👍
In the 1970s I briefly owned an early LHD 1961 Morris Mini Minor. Seeing this one makes me want another. Lovely car !!!
It's been very difficult to focus on work today, knowing that this new video was waiting for me to watch. YEEHA! Thank you
Brilliant.. The RSP 1275 is the one to have.. The condition looks great! Love the barn finds!
Another great barnfind . Both cars look in pretty good condition as well. And as a bonus dunstable is no distance at all from me. Keep up the good work, and serious back wheel skills from no name suspension guy....
Immediately after watching this video I took a walk to my local supermarket here in the heart of Lyon. On the side of the road , a red Mini One, in the garage right next to it , guys working on an original black Mini special.
Magic, well done, if only for clearing the front of the garage, anything else was a bonus, brings back all the Mini memories I have 🙂
It makes me happy to see neglected old cars spluttering back into life like this
I have a tip for you - be careful in old garages like that with corrugated concrete roofs (especially broken ones) as they are likely full of asbestos...but you probably knew that anyway!
Keep up the great work! 🤩
I’d be more wary of the chainsaw 😮
The effort you put into these barn finds is amazing. Two lovely cars. Those Mini Ones are looking better with every passing year.
Interesting video. That ‘classic’ Mini had wider optional 165 section tyres fitted and by the looks (and sound) of it, either a RC40/Maniflow/Janspeed exhaust system. 👍
That airbox with the mini logo engine cover is really cool. Quite funny how they made tiny changes like that to "modernise" the car. They are perfect cars apart from safety. They are just awesome and make everyone smile. Even young kids who have never seen one. Its like simon cowell said about his, its like owning a cute little dog
Jonny . You would have struggled without Al ' and you know that .....l missed a first series mini 1 by minutes only last week for £1495 ono and it had 12 months MOT ! How these survived in this condition is remarkable . Thanks to you both ..... cheers !
Beautiful little original mini. I had 3 original minis. A yellow 1275, a green 1000 and a white mini van 1000. When the BMW mini was released I thought it was too big and unattractive. I've changed my mind now- it's a nice design.
2 lovely cars and a very good film … really enjoyable to watch and well made … keep on keeping on !
Triumph and what a find, its in really good condition considering the time in that garage, like the Mobil sticker on the back. Well Done
I used to produce co-polymer blow moulded fuel tanks for the 'new' mini back in 2000-2003 and we literally couldn't make enough !
We ran Sunday-friday 24hour (3x8 hour shifts/day) plus overtime on Saturday (3 shifts) and Sunday (1 shift).
So I'd say that this car was phenomenally successful !
I love this channel..
BUT this episode in particular resonates….
I had a 1990 Mini Red Flame, 998, with a factory cooper kit (flowed head and exchaust, twin SU carbs, upgraded Cam, georgious steering wheel - small alu spoked with a fat leather wrapped wheel)..
It has the same plastic guard for the electrics that was useless - used a marigold (washing up glove)to seal the distributor which fettled the misfire in the extrream wet of Scotland!
Miss that car!
This is a beauty!
Top notch video again jonny
Those original minis are so cool and characterful....
Had a red mini pick-up YDO 145T....... it was mustard yellow and and my dad and i did a body resto, painted it ford radiant red
Cooper s brakes
10 inch gold revolutions on yokohama a008s
1293cc engine with twin sus rc40 exhaust
What a fun little thing and used to give xr2s a run for their money......
My indicators used to stay on like that little coopers
So instaed of replacing the flasher unit ,.i just did it manually , moving the stalk up n down 😂
The good old 90s
Thanks for the trip back in time in this wonderful video 😊
I would love an old mini again, so many good memories for me driving everywhere in 4 i had in my day the estate i had was the best all rounder if you could buy a new one today i would definitely get one straight away
I hope you follow up with another video the R50 mini Johnny.
It’s about time they had some recognition for being such great cars that embodied the original design and concept.
Unlike the crap that calls itself MINI these days.
Hi Jonny. Your stone cracked 😅😅. With the weedkiller sprayer. Good job though. These Mini's are beauties. I would buy them in a heartbeat. These car's were well looked after. Brand new oil, this is a little gem Jonny. Great video again bro. 👋😅🇨🇮
I parked my 1974 Land Rover Series 3 beside a 'new type' mini, and it was longer and wider than a Land Rover. Not much Mini about it !
But I did have a mini 1000 called Bubby, and she was a great wee car, full of lovable character and charm. The originals are very small outside, but surprisingly spacious inside, and have such a lovely face IMHO.
Beautiful Mini . . . what a great find.
I spotted the cameo by no name full suspension mountain bike guy
That was actually Richard Porter in disguise!
Hey Jon the early minis were called ‘one’ in trim level :) then cooper then the cooper s . Few differing option packs on each trim . The ONE was the non cooper variant
As a classic mini person I vowed never to have an early r50 😂 now I have a 2001 cooper chilli pack and I love it ! They’re great . Still have a classic mini alongside it 😊
Great episode keep up the great work
I have an H reg cooper as well in exactly the same colour scheme, though mine was registered in October 1990. Bought it in 2017 as my first car. Fantastic fun to drive and dead easy to work on too.
Your videos keep getting better Jonny! Keep up the great work.
Nice find..Using a flashlight to see the spark made me chuckle😁😁
I had a BRG S-reg (1978) Mini Cooper back in 93, loved that little car. Brought it as a non runner for £400 spent the whole summer stripping down and rebuilding her. Then in October that year she was stolen and set on fire...Gutted. Really miss that car. Im 6ft 4 so I fitted ford sierra seat mounts so I could fit properly and built a special console for the extra dials i had fitted.
for next time.. there is a manual boot release under the back seat bench on the mini one. pop it up and pull the hoop
Hi Awesome Video, you made me miss my Blue Mini May Fair, the more more boxy looking mini 👍👍
I know you're not a big fan of the Mini Jonny but they hold a special place in my heart, I think they're sweet little things.
Designed and built by the good guys too 😉
Another brilliant episode, thanks as always for all the graft and in this case gardening!
Appreciating how much effort out into this video, great to watch,👌🏻
Anybody else shout 'Yessssss!' when it fired up. 🙂
Great episode Jonny and what a find! That mini is so well preserved.
I miss my black 1991 SPi Cooper. Still have my 2009 Cooper S convertible ..
All Minis put a smile on my face :)
The bloody great 1 3/4" carburettor in the middle of the engine bay tells you it's not fuel injected! 🤔
I click like before the video has even begun because I always know I'm in for a treat. Keep up the great work Jonny!
Thank you so much!
Awesome. Hope they go to a good home and get back on the road. Maybe a new segment; Johnny’s gardening tips. 👍😄
7:20 In the early 2000's Alex Moulton, the engineer behind the suspension of a number of BL cars from the first Mini to the MGF, banned BMW Minis from his estate in Bradford on Avon. They had to be parked outside The Hall grounds! He really despised them.
He is not alone!
Funny enough Rover wanted to used hydrogas for the BMW Mini and they wanted a weird steering solution, luckily the Germans stepped in and the MINI became a benchmark for handling
@@rafsport7702'became a benchmark for handling'? 🤣
You sound like someone who has never driven an original Mini!
@@FFVoyager Had R50, R52 and R53z give me another modern car that comes close in handling that isn’t worth a fortune… NONE
The R50 mini does handle extremely well.
Most haters have never driven one and forget it was the Rover team that developed this car…they are great.
The Coopers were the first of the Mini line to have fuel injection, first introduced in 1991. This makes this particular one quite rare, with only 19,000 non injected Coopers made during 90 and 91. The last Minis received injection in August of 1994.
