A huge, non-tactical, fifty-megaton dirty bomb nuke. Run, OP, find decent people in your life.
Same happened to me, but I got slightly lucky. It was from a cousin who lied constantly about everything, so the fallout was...controllable. Somewhat. And in response to him trying to get out of a DUI charge where he didn't want to have his urine tested weekly. My own mother questioned me (she now wonders why I radiantly don't give a crap about her any longer). His parents instantly believed him until they needed stuff from me and can't seem to figure out why the word "No" is a knee-jerk reaction. The cousin offed himself when he went off his psych meds and figured more booze and drugs would do just as well.
I do confess to sitting in the back of the funeral and thoroughly enjoying it. I am not a perfect person.

I hate these stories because they remind me of people who use SA as a weapon to destroy someone's life. No morals, no qualms and no remorse. Just pure evil. Then plus the people who believe it without questions are even worse, especially those who are close yet they choose not to hear their friend/brother/husband/son/father denial.

    • @Tris_.
      @Tris_. 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's even worse. Because of stories like this real victims of SA are often not believed and accused of lying. Henry AND Amanda need to go to jail for this. Imagine if OP actually went with his thoughts and actually k*lled himself. They'd have his blood on their hands.

    • @spheres0082

People who weaponize SA are scum of the earth

    • @Elliandr
      @Elliandr 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +342

It also hurts the real victims of SA. Every time someone does this it becomes more and more difficult for real victims to be believed. It used to be that the people who came forward were believed because "who would lie about something like that?", but now scrutiny is needed. Police have to determine if the alleged victim has any evidence. To that end it makes sense why the police didn't arrest him. The screenshots could have been anyone. I'm not personally familiar with that app, but if it's anything like Discord where the name you see isn't a username but rather a nickname there's absolutely no evidence to be had in that. The police probably used the report to get access to logs and with the logs probably determined that the evidence presented was false and then didn't go any further with it, but in that case why didn't the police notify anyone of such a finding? Or bring in the person behind the accusation for questioning?
Now, I have mixed feelings about the cases where an accusation is recanted because in the present climate without a confession a life cannot begin to heal and I wouldn't want to discourage such behavior, and it does seem likely that she held back on confessing because she feared the consequences, but there should be some consequences for doing something like this. Unfortunately, even people who are caught lying rarely see more than a month of jail time and that's not much of a deterrant.

This guy should definitely charge Henry, Amanda told him about how Henry had planned all that out, and faked evidence. That shit was straight up intentional, and pre-meditated. Henry should be forced to pay OP for his loss of wages from losing his job, + pain and suffering for losing his family, and likely having severe depression.

    • @McAnik-uo1ol

From the sounds of it Henry is a failure without pot to p155 in. What would be the point of a law suit? The POS could not cover legal costs let alone damages. All it would do is create a lot of drama. OP has found some peace in his new life. Leave the people who disowned him to their own guilt and turmoil.
It is understandable that OP didn't want the problem 8 years ago but if he had rolled the dice and gone to the police himself this would have forced Amanda to perjure herself and risk prison. She might have cracked then. If she filed a false complaint then maybe he could have turned up evidence (security camera footage or similar) from the club carpark to exonerate him. Then he might have had Amanda and Henry on the hook for perjury or filing a false report. Even if they got to serve some time (probably not) it is unlikely that they would have suffered for 8 years but they would have criminal records.
On the other hand OP may have a case against his former employer for forcing him out based on pretty much nothing. Could be a payday there.

@@McAnik-uo1ol re the old employer: I don't think so, but there might be a case there. A lot of legal recourse goes out the window when you "voluntarily" quit. He'd basically need to prove that it was a form of constructive dismissal. Plus after 8 years it might be past the statute of limitations, for a lot of employment laws those have fairly short statutes of limitations, like 2-5 years.
But yeah, while in a mostly fair world this never would have happened, and in a slightly less fair world Henry would be paying him enough to retire, the fact is that you can't get blood from a stone.

@@cheerie9654 Not at all! It's just that (in my experience with reddit stories), the more deatailed they are the bigger the probability it is to be fake. In real life stories, when people publish them on reddit, they tend to not tell their whole life, just the crucial info others need to know, and they mostly just publish it for advice or to get it off their chest. Like, for example, horror stories on reddit (those that are fake) are written in a quality that could get them published. But real horror stories tend to not have that same amount of deatail (not sure why, just a pattern that i've noticed). Just to remark, that doesn't mean THIS story is fake, but it certaintly adds to the probability. There is another reason i belive THIS story MIGHT be fake, and i didn't mention it before because i wanted to recheck it... Usually, is SA cases (especially when it goes public), it's something that goes to court and that people get persecuted for. Like, if someone publicly tells their SA story (which will definitely ruin the reputation of the perpetrator), yet they don't ever mention going to court or TRYING to, that's a red flag. It means they just want to get their public reputation ruined, as there is no other reason to publicly tell it without involving the police (unless it's for protecting others, but going to court would also do that). Again, this doesn't mean the story is fake, there is really no way to know for sure if the comenter doesn't outright say it is. But i've learned it's best to take every story from stranger on the internet with a grain of salt. I've seen many times people accusing eachother of things, only to start a war between the followers of each one... it doesn't end well, especially when it comes to light that the side i supported was the one lying. So i always reccomend people to have a little skepticism, and limit themselves to only give support/advice if needed.

idk. there almost never is proof in cases of SA and false accusations are still way rarer
i think the family of the abuser should support them (assuming they are not also family of the victim) because as much as i want to hate sexual abusers, if they are truly cut off from everything then it usually only gets worse ( imagine if OP actually was a sexual abuser, i wouldn't have felt bad for him but at the same time the situation he was in definitely was not a recipe for rehabilitation or even prevention) - as in, believe them to a point; don't cut them off but ask that they get help, don't help them slander a potential victim ect..
but imagine being married to someone accused of sexual assault; it largely depends on the relationship and the person's history. as a survivor, it would be very hard for me to be with someone accused of sexual assault regardless of their innocence if it was in question because the vase majority of the time they aren't innocent - it would have to be someone i truly trusted to not have done something like that.
and if someone is coming to me as a victim I 100% believe them except in cases of obvious duplicity / or history of fabrication. I think you have a duty to someone who likely has no proof and is automatically disadvantaged in society in such a situation. This doesn't look like beating up the abuser or anything but simply if you want to be friends with the victim you must cut off the accused, if the victim needs support you provide it, ect.
obviously this will be unpopular under the story of a fabricated claim but
      1. I would not be ashamed of helping Amanda if it later came out because I still did the right thing
      2. If I cut off OP as a friend then it was a poor action based on Amanda's duplicity but still the right action given my history
      3. If I was family or close to OP then I would have helped him get help, specifically therapy which is still positive for a victim of fabricated SA claims, without removing full support for him unless it became too triggering for me, which is *still* the fault of Amanda IMO
and, most importantly, almost every person I know personally (including myself) who has survived SA has next to no proof and also is desperate for support, and the facts given around false accusations are again that they are incredibly rare compared to the all too common case of SA.

As an older brother it drives me actually insane with rage seeing Henry’s actions.
There’s nothing worth more in this life than a sibling, and to see someone be so cold, so vile, to theirs, wants me to make his head an internal organ.
Between me and my brother I can’t even imagine either of us doing anything bad to each other, especially intentionally. He’s my baby brother and even though we’ve had our share of arguments the bottom line is and always will be that I would always have his back and be ready to die for him.
Hell I wouldn’t even do that to anyone, no matter how attracted I am to a woman, if she’s in a relationship (MUCH LESS A HAPPY MARRIAGE WITH TWO KIDS), there are plenty of fish in the sea and I can and have to get over it.
Sincerely, I hope Henry faces justice in this life or the next for everything he destroyed. The relationships, the futures, the YEARS OF LIFE he had taken away all for his own selfish, shallow obsession. And I hope OP’s parents face the same for having raised such a monster.
Jenny is in the wrong too, there’s absolutely no way any sane, well-adjusted person could so quickly believe strangers over her own husband.
Do you have any idea what a marriage is? It’s trust, it’s the absolute trust you need to put into a person, to love someone to the point of standing by them even if everyone else doesn’t.

Pardon me for flat out copying my story from above.
My family's trash. Rich trash, but trash.
To expand a little with another concept I used, it's the case where the cousin was the golden boy of the narcissists. Why, I can't say. He was always in trouble, substance abuse problems, stole things, thrown out of high school in tenth grade, and so on. Never had a stable job.
I was the scapegoat of the entire family. Again, no real reason. Model student, graduated Ivy League, good career, I currently do medical audits for a gigantic company and my job requires ridiculously high levels of ethics and attention to detail.
My parents were/are both narcissists. My childhood was...let's not go there. At this point, I'm no contact with a lot of the family and very low contact with my mother. My husband does more of that by necessity. She really doesn't have anything nice to say to anybody.
(Shrug) It is what it is. I won't meet her eventual death with anything but a shrug and a bit of mourning for what should have been, and none at all for what she actually was.
