In my opinion, op got one of the worst parts in this story. Not only did she gain some trauma, she had to make emotional attachments twice, and then just let them go. She also got injured. She also is trying to find new work, while taking care of a traumatized kid, and not hearing or seeing the kids she took care of ever, because she is reminding them of trauma. I’m not blaming anyone for what happened (besides parents/grandparents) but this wasn’t right.

    • @Wumbology378

Yeah I really feel for OP because of that. She did everything she could for those children, but she is the one being pushed out of their lives for being a reminder of their trauma. I just hope those kids grow up to be happy and they reach out to OP to thank her for everything and build a relationship.

as a trained child therapist (now disabled) i'm aghast that the child therapist would want OP's role minimized in niece and nephew's lives once they moved out. that is exactly the opposite of what they need for their mental health in this transition. OP should have been included in some family visits w/a family therapist who had a history of treating children. this is just such a travesty for those kids and OP. so traumatizing.

    • @LiemNat

I think the point is for the kids to grow and decide if they can handle being around op. I don't know if it said 'never' and looking again isn't the most productive thing I can do at the moment. The most important thing is a fresh start for them. Even with how much op told, we don't know everything or how the kids view the situation. I haven't had the same situation, nor have I had therapy, but I never want to around anyone relating to my trauma, even if they were good. So I sympathise with the choice made more than the idea of keeping them around each other. It's different for everyone.

The nephew has been under too much stress, and so has the niece. her brother and sil are pieces of garbage for this. they brought those two only to have them suffering at the end. I place most blame on the grandparents here. The grandparents allowed all of this to happen, it was them who enabled their son and let their granddaughter suffer, then in a twist they blamed the grandson for the aftermath of this whole ordeal. And throughout the entire story they only called to spew obscenities and crap at their own daughter for trying to make happier home for their own granddaughter. Shameless and ignorant, they care more about their own reputation rather than regret the suffering they caused. Op was number one victim in all this, suffering through emotional abuse from parents and having her own brother beat her up. then being accused of sa by her own nephew, then having to endure the trauma for the kids. truly resilient and rough player.

If those poor excuses of grandparents that are OP's mom and dad allowed their daughter and grandaughter to be killed at the hands of a spoiled-ass excuse of a son/father/brother, there is no salvaging their so-called 'reputation.' There is definitely some generational trauma going on because OP says her parents always yell at her and she had a dark childhood, get angry when she calls out her brother etc and now the same thing is happening with their niece and nephew where the girl is a scapegoat and the boy is a golden child. OP can probably personally relate to Lou which is why she’s so deeply and passionately furious, I would be too tbh
If Josh is is a bully it’s cause his parents (especially his dad) are bullies and if his parents are bullies it’s because OP and Josh’s dad’s parents are. Lou and Josh’s grandparents sound equally narcissistic and OP was likely a scapegoat child while her brother was favoured and so this bully/victim dynamic is normalised for them. Whatever the case it’s definitely generational by the sound of it.

She was much more careful than OP in how she did it though, so as to not ruffle feathers too much, and she was limited in her ability because she lived 400+ miles away. But every summer, she asked to have me sent to live with her while school was out, from when I was 11 until I was kicked out at 17. I didn't realize it at the time, but if I'd asked, she'd have probably taken me in then too. My sisters still hold grudges against her today because they didn't get the special treatment they always got from everyone else, and she'd call them out for their BS.

Also can you imagine the kind of messed up person you have to be to watch your little girl fall down a staircase and then laugh at her and scream at her to stop crying when she keeps crying?

Everyone is rightfully laying into the parents, but something I’m not seeing getting nearly enough attention is how fucking cruel those phychiaratrists are. They took away Lou from her living aunt who sacrificed everything for her because she might be a ‘rEmIndEr’ and wouldn’t even let them see each other despite the fact that Lou was ringing her every day, crying and begging to go back. It’s disgraceful. I fucking hate psychiatrists, they’re supposed to be all about feelings but they’ve taken a child’s emotions and made them bureaucratic. They stuck Lou with the cousin simply because he was wealthier, and while it just so happens that they turned out to be loving and caring and good for Lou, as someone who has had experience with psychiatrists myself, I am 100% confident that they would have put her there even if they were horrible simply because they had more money. I fucking hate bureaucracy, it had absolutely no fucking place in mental health or child safety, it’s so painfully obvious to anyone with a shred of heart that Lou and OP had a beautiful relationship and she would have been a great mom, but I guess that doesn’t matter to these overpaid, bureaucratic assholes. I’m literally about to cry, I’ve never been so angry and emotional while writing a YT comment before. It was so clear that OP was meant to be Lou’s mom, so clear! Pieces of paper have their place, but this was just one of those things where you have to go with your heart. Okay rant’s over, I’m gonna go cry

One of the worst parts on the side of the abusive parents and the son is, I can’t even blame the kid. I don’t consider it to be his fault that he was spoiled and his horrible behaviors were not only left undisciplined but also condoned by the father. This is why I scoff when people say "You'll never know real love until you have your own kid's". There are WAY too many scumbags like OPs brother, SIL, and parents in this world. But there are also a lot of beautiful people like OP willing to make sacrifices for children and do what's right on their behalf. I'm proud of OP and Lou and hope Josh grows into the opposite of his father. A wonderful young man. I hope the three of them recover from their trauma and wish them the best. Went through a roller coaster of emotions listening to this. Mostly anger at OPs brother, SIL, and parents. Especially whe he broke in and assaulted OP. Made me wish I were there to step in. Sadness at the false accusations. And hope when the cousins talked about bringing the kids into their homes. I hope the cousins are doing well and are happy with Lou and Josh. ❤
