Knife defense is one the most widely debated topics in the self-defense and martial art worlds. What technique/principles does your school teach?

I can tell you that we used to practice joint manipulations a lot. They were certainly uncomfortable to practice but I don't know how well they would have worked if your partner wasn't cooperating with you or moving in slow motion.

I've always wondered about how these techniques would truly unfold if and when a "real attack" occurred. Is that where "muscle memory" comes in? And can one actually rely on muscle memory in a real-life situation?

Muscle memory and drilling, yes. A popular saying that I wholeheartedly agree with is, "train how you want to fight." Whether it's knife defense, using a gun, or whatever, the more times we've practiced/trained then the higher likelihood that we'll be able to perform those same actions under stress.

These are good techniques! But how is framing differentiated from jamming?

Frame I'm purposefully trying to deadstop the knife with a 360 block. Works alright if I can anticipate the initial stab. Jamming I'm covering vitals (as much as possible) and smashing in to close distance to then move to 2on1 or whatever the situation calls for --- sort of a hail mary. Honestly, at the end of the day I don't get to caught up in the specifics. It's gonna suck no matter what and probably gonna be a mix of all three so that's why the general principle is still close distance while simultaneously trying to stop the knife and/or mitigate damage.

@@BeReadySelfDefense Thanks for clarifying the jamming and framing methods. Excited about this knife 🔪 defense methodology or concept system because I see so many knife defense instructional displays or tutorials claiming you can just seize a knife weilding ✋️ hand with one hand and then instantly twist and disarm or strike and the attack is magically over.
      Yeah right!!!
Interested in the Aaron Gineti program as well.
Any web or contact information to Be Ready Self Defense or Aaron Gineti's program (not sure I spelled his name correctly) would be greatly appreciated!!!
