  • A self-defense specific EDC knife can be a great tool (emphasis on TOOL...not just a weapon) to get out of a pinch and improve your position in a life or death situation. However, just like any other tool or skill, you HAVE TO PRACTICE. Drillers make killers, y'all.
An early aspect of properly using a knife is being able to draw/deploy effectively. In this video, I go over a couple simple options for deployment and the pros and cons for each option. There is no right answer. Mess around. Play. Have fun. Why so serious?

Idk why I didn't just say "clear my shirt" as opposed to "remove the obstacle of my clothing," but hey -- #youtube.
Viewers: Are you still on the fence about an EDC knife for self-defense? What questions do you have? What content would you like to see in the future?

Good stuff, I haven't really thought about the best ways to draw a knife. Keep up the good content... earlier this week I was able to record some self defense focused sparring in close quarters, 2 rounds, the second with some safe "improvised weapons", it was a pretty intense experience, I will share it within a copuple of weeks probably.

Yes, that's awesome! People say you can't spar self defense, but with a little creativity you can get close. As you said, it's a mich different experience and supet exhausting.

@@BeReadySelfDefense Absolutely... I engage in combat sports focused sparring (for the most part), as well as (sometimes) self defense focused, and traditional martial ARTs focused sparring. Each has some cary over, although they're quite different, but yeah I find if you do self defense sparring well, it's a lot more exhausting cuz it will spike the adrenaline more. If you get the chance to record and analyse some self defense sparring, I think that'd make for good content on your channel :)

I love knives but I usually have a folder in my pocket. Super slow to get that out in a bad situation so I don't know if I'd try to use that in a self defense situation

How would you rate a knife as a selfdefence tool compared to other options like stunguns, oc-sprays, tasers, kubatons, tactical flashlights etc?

Ooo man, great question. I may need to simmer on that one for a bit. I'll get back to you!

@@simoneriksson8329 my quick take answer would be 1. Flashlight 2. Knife 3. OC Spray 4. Taser 5. Kubaton (honestly never used one before so that's just speculation). I'm not sure where I would put a law enforcement grade stun gun...maybe around 2 or 3? Only thing I don't like about it is you get one shot.
Everything I say tho is opinion. I think best answer is the tool you've trained with the most and are most efficient/comfortable with! 🤘
