Unlock the Power of Hybrid Note-Taking: Integrating GoodNotes with Tana
I very rarely miss my paper notebooks now that I use Tana. But every now and then my brain needs to arrange my thoughts visually. And while I'm hoping someday in the future Tana will add native drawing capabilities - for now I have a sweet little workflow between Goodnotes on my iPad and my Tana Day page.
It makes it easy to take break out & visualise my thinking on the iPad & then easily get it back into Tana where I need it.
In this video I walk you through how to setup your Goodnotes app so you are always ready to visualise your notes, & the one click workflow to get those notes back into Tana.
(& I'll even show you how to use the same workflow - even if you don't have an iPad)

My Set & Forget Tana Weekly Review System
มุมมอง 44516 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

So I designed a weekly review system in Tana that requires very little effort on my part. And even if I don't end up doing it that week (which happens quite often), I still have a record of everything that happened that week without having to touch any...

    Hello, your video has inspired me a lot, but today I tried to set the inbox content to move directly to the current day page and found a strange phenomenon. Voice capture can be automatically moved smoothly, but other types of captures remain in the inbox. Can you think of any possible reasons for this?

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman 13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Are the other types coming in through Tana Capture? Or are they coming in through an API? Anything that comes in through the input API you cannot run the automatic commands. But all Tana Capture it should work.

      Thank you for your reply. The messages in the Inbox were indeed created using Tana capture. However, let me share something interesting with you. After I adjusted the order of the commands, the issue disappeared. It’s truly amazing.

    Whoa I am 1 min 30 sec in and I have learned something, Ev! I have not been doing my weekly review on my #week supertag.... that is genius! I have a #week-review supertag already. I guess I could just extend #week to include #week-review.... Thanks Ev!

    • @martineellis

      A quick follow up question - I do not seem to have my weeks listed under #month supertag. Is this a Tana limitation or likely something in my setup? Just thinking about applying this to my monthly review... Thanks again Ev.

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah I'm not sure why I didn't just use the week supertag instead of creating a new weekly-review one. I find it works much better - as I can get to it straight by right clicking on the day. In relation to the weeks listed under month. The months live kind of outside the Tana Calendar structure. The only way to get to them is to Right Click on the 'Today' button on the day page and click 'Go To Month.'

    Hi @EvChapman, I'm still thinking about your workflow. You mentioned that you sit down with your notes every day and pick the three that resonate the most. You then work on those three notes. But what about the rest of the notes? For example, if you make 10 notes in a day, after three days, you'll have worked on 9 notes and have 21 accumulated in your inbox. What happens to those? Soon, you'll have hundreds of them and never get around to addressing them :) ?

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I have over 900+ notes currently that I haven't processed. I don't really worry about them. I take the mindset that I have a limited amount of time & can only do what I can do. It helps to take the pressure of having to 'process' through an inbox and puts it onto enjoying the process of creating knowledge from notes. Now I think about my Spark Inbox more as a lucky dip that will never run out of interesting things to explore. It's definitely a mindset shift - but it's been the best one I've ever made.

    Why are some of the fields shown with the plus sign and in a line above the actual fields? E.g. at 1:30, there are those 6 entries between 'An idea for...' and the top field 'Status'. At 2:03, those fields seem to be just normal fields as all the others. I'm new to Tana and it's quite overwhelming... But your videos help a lot, thank you so much, Ev!

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question! You can assign fields as 'hidden fields' in Tana. So when they show up in a Supertag they live up the top with the + sign. You can click on any of them and they appear as normal fields. To hide a field you just have to click inside then type CMD+K > Hide Field Conditions and choose an option. I tend to hide a lot of fields until I need them to keep things neat.

      There has been a couple of UI changes since I made this video. The transcribe button is now part of the Node Toolbar So when you select a node that has a recording on it you should see a toolbar popup that has the transcribe button. I do go in depth in Tana Fast Track. I also have a standalone template The Knowledge Hub here: evielync.gumroad.com/l/qzgfn And in February I’m going to be running a community sprint where we build our atomic ideas together for 30 days. I’ll keep you posted about that.

    Great Video Ev! Is there a way to add an option instead of changing it? So instead of changing the status from Incoming to Parked, simply add Parked to Incoming? I want to use this as a habit tracker of sorts. I know I can just use checkboxes, but I prefer options. So my field would be "Movement" and of course have different options, such as Yoga and Walking. The Problem I'm running into is, when I already have the field set to Walking and click the Yoga Button, it simply replaces Walking, but that's not what I want, I want it to simply add "Yoga", rather than replacing what's already there.

    I'd love to see an updated version of this. Has it changed in the last year? What are you doing differently? What's staying the same? THanks Ev, awesome video x
