    If you fed water in to the outlet and out of the inlet you would more than double the contact time for the bubbles search reverse flow protein skimmer.... A lot of marine skimmers have pipes inside to make the water travel against the flow of bubbles...

    Hi, I’m looking to get the Hannah chlorine test kit so I can check the pond and see if my dechlorinator is still effective. What’s the difference between the free chlorine and total chlorine and which one is best to get?

    • @peterfinkill8098
      @peterfinkill8098 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gareth. As I understand it the difference is. Free chlorine is all the bad chlorine that you cannot live with. This has to be a zero reading on the meter. Total Chlorine contains Free Chlorine plus other not so harmful (in the short term) chlorines. You would try to get that to zero too but may be ok if it's not made up with any Free Chlorine. So if you only get 1 of the 2 meters then get Total Chlorine and try to get it to zero If you have both chlorine meters then if your Free Chlorine is zero then there's no need to panic if the Total Chlorine shows a small reading. I hope this makes some sense to you? If you're still confused then let me know Regards Peter

    • @garethwatkins1897
      @garethwatkins1897 2 ปีที่แล้ว

In Japan, hobbyists rarely use them instead of blue bowls, as they are difficult to buy and unnecessarily expensive. You are free to use them for other purposes, but I have always considered that the water level is too low for large KOI's and that there is always pressure from below. If you want to continue to use them, I think you should re-manufacture an another products with a specific gravity that sinks more.

    I fancy having a go at making one of these filters and you have made some excellent videos on it. Have you a link info sizes etc to the device you have used to get air into the filter, I think it may be called a bulkhead? Also in a previous vid someone asked how much media you used and you said a 1/3 of the volume. Is that likely to be a 25l bag or 50l. Thanks again for great ideas and videos

    • @northernkoikeeper512

      Hi Gary. Thanks for the kind words. The fitting that puts air into the Up-Filter is a JG Pipe fitting. I got mine from Toolstation. Before fitting it warm the tube so that it adapts to the form of the fitting. www.toolstation.com/jg-speedfit-tank-connector/p92456 Not sure on the amount of media. If you can use it elsewhere then get 50l otherwise start with 25l and add more if you think it needs it.

    • @peterfinkill8098

      Hi Claire. Thanks for liking and subscribing. I bought the bulk head fitting for the air from Toolstation (but you can get them from B&Q, Screwfix etc.). It is a " J G Speedfit tank connector 15mm" and costs £3.88. I cannot remember the hole i drilled for it but on the J G Guest site it says a 29mm hole. Drill a 29mm hole in a piece of scrap and see if that's ok before you drill the acrylic tube. After cutting the hole I then heated the plastic around the hole til it went a bit soft. Then quickly fit the tank connector before it cools. This is because the tube is curved and the tank connector may leak if that area isn't flattened down. Good luck and if you have any further questions don't hesitste to ask.
