Hi Ken. I used a drill bit that has a head that looks like an arrowhead. They are made for drilling into steel and ceramic tiles I think. I'm pretty sure a standard hss or wood drill bit would work ok as well. Then I heated the plastic up around the hole and fitted my bulkhead while the plastic was still soft. If you heat the plastic be careful not to over heat.

I've used 15mm JG pipe fittings that I bought from Toolstation. I used a non return valve near the air pump. www.toolstation.com/jg-speedfit-double-check-valve/p83191

Hi Richard. I got the green plastic finer mesh from B&Q in the garden dept. It was on a big roll for about £7. Probably get it in Garden Centres too. I used 2 pieces. One at 90 degrees to the other. Nice to see that your DIY up filter is pulling a lot of debris out of the water and hopefully the change to the aeration for cleaning will help as well. One comment though is that I did find the video itself quite jumpy and hard to follow. Maybe a different approach to videoing such as a tripod when possible might help. Just a thought.

Hi Juanito. My pond is only about 1,500 gallons (6,000 litres) and I have 24 Koi in there. I am over filtering my pond as I probably have too many fish in there. I clean the Up-Filters about every 3/4 days. Up-Filters are working great.

I think the tempest is much more user friendly but if you enjoy building your own equipment then I the DIY up filters are a good option.
The Tempest does a good job but I think home made Up-Filters are more customizable
