      Thanks. It sure does a great job and I would recommend everyone to use one as the last filtration before returning to the pond.

    Thats what it needed an aerator, making cleaning a lot better, great job.

    Great Video, Great build but I cannot get my head round a couple of things. If the air is agitating all the time would it not allow some fines to bypass the media and also when it is agitating, as it is cleaning, surely again fines will pass through the media rather than fall down with the flow of the discharged water. Maybe if the waste outlet was a lot smaller it would glug and allow air in to mix the media as it is allowing the waste out. Great idea, great set up and I am sure it works fine but it is messing with my head. Keep the Video's coming my friend as I am thinking of making one myself

      Hi. The air is only agitating when in cleaning mode and not on all the time. I think you're right and I'm not convinced that all the fines are removed when cleaning. I usually flush it a couple of times using pond water and a couple of times blasting it with a water jet from above down through the filter media. There may be a small amount getting back to the pond when the filter is turned on again after my cleaning but if you see the amount it takes out then that would be going back into the pond without this filter. Therefore it stops maybe 95% of fines.

    It definitely seems to empty a lot better than a tempest I'm looking into building one myself now .

    Looks class that. The EA one on another channel is a fixed unit and outside is manky already and can’t get in to clean it.

    Brilliant idea mate at least you can clean the media not like EA. That’s the thing I don’t like about the EA. You just can’t give it a good flush out. And by just emptying it out surely when you are disturbing the media the rest of the muck is going to go straight back in the pond. Certainly cheaper has well and more satisfaction because you have made it yourself and it works and does a fab job 👍

    It's amazing what the drum let's through, looks like a great success!!, got me thinking now, my shower media probably blocked with all the crap my drums letting through, is that acrylic tube a metre long? looks a lot longer?, what airline fitting have you used onto the filter?

    • @northernkoikeeper512
      @northernkoikeeper512  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marek. Yeah it amazed me what the drum lets through. You will see if you have a look inside your shower. Mine needed a good clean. The acrylic tube comes in metre lengths. It possibly looks bigger because it is thinner than the Tempest. The Tempest id 200mm diameter whereas mine is 150mm diameter. I have ordered a 200mm diameter tube to make a bigger Up-Filter to get even better filtration of fines.

      @@northernkoikeeper512 Hi, just ordered the 1000x200 acrylic tube plus the rubber top/bottom adapters, that made my eyes water, but at least you can get into it to clean, unlike the tempest, and cheaper too, need to find a way of getting airline and stones inside, probably plumb in-line feeding my shower with bypass to already existing pond return.

    Wow great job it’s made me order the parts now Question would puting a slide valve between uplift filter and shower and shutting it then force air in the the drain of the uplift filter causing it to gurgle and agitate the media? Also where did you get the media guards from?

    • @northernkoikeeper512
      @northernkoikeeper512  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andy. Thanks for the comments. A slide valve at the top may work. I was planning on putting one there but then run out of space. I still would have added the air and air stones though. Give much more agitation and for a longer time. The media guard can be made from plastic circle cut to the correct diameter and then drill holes the relevant size. However as you saw I used a mesh that I got from eBay and cut that to size. I got it from
