Shape-shifting cells that can kill us or make us
Epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a biological process where cells change from tightly packed and specialized epithelial cells to more mobile and invasive mesenchymal cells. This transition involves altered gene expression and cell adhesion, allowing cells to migrate and invade surrounding tissues. EMT plays important roles in development, wound healing, and cancer metastasis. Understanding EMT is crucial in various fields, including regenerative medicine and cancer research, with potential implications for therapy.

The science of decellularization and recellularization
มุมมอง 6K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Organ decellularization and recellularization are tissue engineering techniques that aim to create functional transplantable organs. The goal is twofold: first to create an acellular organ scaffold by removing the cells from a donated organ, and then to repopulate this scaffold with recipient cells to generate a personalized organ. This process has several benefits. By decellularizing an organ,...

Stem cell therapy: Great scam or a miraculous treatment
มุมมอง 70K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
In recent times, there has been a rise in the popularity of stem cell tourism worldwide, with individuals traveling to foreign destinations to avail themselves of such treatments at a significant cost. Stem cells understand geometry. How?
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
One of the recent hot topics in tissue engineering is utilizing the topographical features of biomaterials for controlling stem cell behaviors. The cell understands the geometry of the surface they attached to, and based on that, they change their fate and behavior. We still don't know the exact mechanisms which make this field interesting. This is one of the topics that I wanted to talk about ...

Stem cell therapy is legal in the US, but expanding stem cells is not, which is why it's so expensive to get stem cell therapy here. Umbilical cord derived stem cell therapy is a growing field in the US since it's the youngest stem cells you can use without the same cancer risks, government restrictions, and ethical issues of embryonic stem cells.

I was diagnosed with heart failure with ejection fraction @ 15 to 20%. Although medications helped to manage the symptoms, the US health care system recommended hospice. After researching options, I learned MSC stem cells were my only hope. I made arrangements for stem cell treatments in Mexico. I've been home for 6 weeks. A recent echocardiogram indicated all inflammation was gone, heart functions are normal and ejection fraction @ 60%, a healthy heart. I am optimistic about additional improvements during the next several months.
