  • The likelihood of initiating addictive behaviors is higher during adolescence compared to any other developmental period, yet we still compare the substance abuse addiction and behavioral addictions, trying to prove which one is define as an addiction. Man, why didn't I find your channel a year ago? xD
I have always thought about these addiction issues as you do in your conclusion, focusing more on the emotional cause rather than the chemical cause. It's funny how this last message is seen more in "overcome addiction" videos than in "dopamine fasting" videos.
A year ago I was going through a period of stress, which I suppose was due to sleep problems, and I came across several videos of dopamine fasts. So I ended up blaming dopamine and trying to abstain pleasurable activities instead of solving my stress/sleep.

Hey man. This is the reason I made that video. I am really glad that this video helped you. In this channel, mostly I talk about technical stuff in biology and chemistry, but I will talk about addiction more in the future. So stay around and check my dopamine fast video as well. I think you might be interested. th-cam.com/video/fAP_qjoo5sk/w-d-xo.html

Amazing video. You have any book to recommend to learn more about this topic?

Hey. I don't think there is a book with this specific topic. Most books in the market completely follow a certain narrative, which, in my opinion, misrepresents the problem.

Speaking of adolescence and reward circuitry, it would be interesting to see how the mass-medicating of the huge (and exponentially increasing) portion of the population put on ADHD meds, especially meds like methylphenidate functioning as a cocaine mimetic and often prescribed in conjunction with SSRIs, is affecting development and reinforcement of addictive behavior during formative years. Seems more and more apparent by the day that the entire pharmacological industry, and by-extension the entire medical industry, are all just drug dealing thugs causing more harm than good. Are there good people who care about human life in-industry? Sure, but they either lay down or get steamrolled in favor of maximizing profits every time.

My fear is seeing how INSANELY overmedicated the younger generations are, even more-so than mine was at only 70% of my graduating class being on some kind of psychiatric medication, and knowing how screwed up my generation all turned out meaning that these kids are only gonna have it worse because they’re all dependent on 5+ different meds each now. Then they hit adulthood, their parents insurance no longer covers their medication, they can’t afford to insure themselves, and they definitely can’t afford to pay for treatment out of pocket, and then they end up drug-seeking adults without even knowing why and fall hard into addiction because they’ve been primed for it by their doctors their whole lives.
