All vertical Antennas will bring in a lot of noise..
@@HS0ZIQ Yes that's correct, depending on location and position some antennas bring in much less noise which is what I liked about the Gainmaster.. other antennas I've used have been very noisy.. mostly aluminium antennas.
What's best out of the Stryker or the president Washington? Thanks
@@MattMyers-n7f Hands down the Stryker 955hpc Mark 1 the original. Not the cheapo Mark 2, The Washington like the George 2 has a fake signal meters and an absolutely useless RF gain.. what I mean by signal meter is stations that give you a signal 3 will come in at 9+ It's sounds awful when you have low signals giving you a high reading with all the noise.. it's doesn't look or sit right and because of how the RF gain goes up and down in blocks of four you cannot correct the signal.. one good thing they got right on the Washington and George 2 was the audio they do sound nice even the incoming signals sound nice.. Also there are more options in the menu on the G2 and Washington but they are options that nobody on 11 meters will probably ever use.. Also the cross band bleed over/interference is chronic on the G2 and Washington it's almost as if they have no filtering so anyone near the channel you are talking on will splatter you like crazy regardless of they are interfering on AM FM or SSB.. I have all four the Stryker Mark 1 and 2 and the G2 and Washington once the novelty of using the latter two radios was over I put them back in the box and went back to the Stryker Mark 1.. it's like night and day. I try not to be disrespectful to radios other people use but im always honest.. in this hobby people will always justify the amount of money they spend on a radio and because they are new will swear blind they are excellent radios.. but when you compare them against other radios that really do work well then flaws become obvious.. Even compared to the President McKinley the G2 and Washington feels cheap.. oh yes also the front end noise on the G2 and Washington is horrendous.
@DeltaXray444 wow that's really in depth and comprehensive. So my McKinley is a better radio and no point investing in a Washington? But that's amazing 80 whiskeys surely not? I think McKinley is around 19? Thanks
@DeltaXray444 thanks btw my duck from stoke
@@MattMyers-n7f The McKinley is a much better quality working radios.. btw anyone using these new radios turned up to achieve the max output must be nuts.. they get very hot and won't last long.. it's always better to achieve the same output or more watts by using a RM Italy 203, it's much cheaper to replace a cheap linear and save the finals in a radio than to get a radio fixed..
I like the sound of the stryker never had one it looks to be a favourite for you .I always keep an eye out for one people i speak to about them recommend early versions
@@technic7762 The mark 1 first edition is by far the better radio compared to my Mark 2, my Stryker receives better than my Yasue FtDx10 and saying that would be a difficult thing to believe if I didn't own both, Some radios are more suited to 11 meters and I have almost every current export radios you can imagine and the Stryker takes some beating, I also have the Stryker Mark 2 and in comparison the Mark 1 wipes the floor with it, it's just a much better early version Anytone board with quality components before they were outsourced to see which company could make them cheap, and cheap takes away the quality, the Mark 2 even feels cheap with brittle plastic on the bezel, also the Mark 1's knobs feel better quality to turn and much smoother, thicker metal on the case and just a more quality feel overall.. There are still Mark 1's out there up for grabs although very hard to come by but well worth it.. you also have to remember it took ten years of research by Stryker who asked customers for their input what they would like in a radio.. Because people were still asking for a Stryker as they had stopped making them the Mark 2 came about to quell the demand and supply.. But unfortunately the quality didn't come with it.. just some input for you to make an informed choice if you was to buy a Stryker.. The Mark 1 is a beautiful radio to use and definitely my number one choice to use out of all my radios.. The Mark 1 is around 14 years old and made at a time before radios were starting to be made cheap, the current export radios are made very cheap and sold at ridiculously high prices, they may have more options on the menu but they pale in performance, with fake signal meters and fake RF gains and riddled with front end noise like the newer presidents aka the George 2 and Washington which I own both of them and they don't even compare.. as I mentioned earlier I have a Yasue FrDX10 and it has everything on it.. yet it sits there on my bench with it's cover on, that says it all.
Whats the max dead key you can put into this thing
@@stelthcamo357 the manual states with no swing 35 watts on each band, although I wouldn't personally recommend that. More like 25 watts no swing and you will get around 400-450 depending on your antenna set up..

Sirio 827 is stronger
@@Randy-lf2dp I had a 827 it snapped in 55mph winds, in my opinion they are stronger but too rigid and the 2016 is more flexible and bends better in the wind. I've had this one up through some hefty winds at 60-70mph plus and it's been ok so far.. mind you if it does ever break I can use the 827 for spare parts as they are basically the same antenna and work the same.

Always nice to have those lengthy contacts Glenn. I see he picked up on your mic, I’m guessing this is what you were telling me about. Did you get anywhere with the beam?
@@gtretroworld Hi Neal.. Those Sharpshooter mics sound incredible on certain radios, they are very loud crystal clear with lots of kick to drive the radio.. many times I will get a compliment and comments on the audio before a signal report.. The beam is cut and sorted and ready to go up in just waiting for better weather and my brother to do the heavy lifting.. im still in recovery so all I can do is point and bark orders 😂 By the way contacted Sirio for exact measurements and the guy said use what it says in the instructions to the frequency you prefer but only cut one side where the gamma match is.. My mind was completely blown when he said that and this guy works for Sirio, make it make sense.. So I've cut both sides for 27.500 .. L1 & L2 are the two pieces of rod for the gamma match and even those don't make sense so when I get around to putting it up im just going to put the gamma match on and try my best to swr it.. the whole install has been a nightmare if you follow the instructions.. I may do a short video showing where to cut it from.. no wonder people can't get a good match the instructions are awful.

@@missmontyp872 hi there it's been a long time since I've seen you about.. hope you enjoy my radio channel.. I've expanded on the ghost box 😂😂 Hope you are well and life is treating you well stay blessed xx ❤️xx
What measurement did you set it at for 11 meters ?
@user-xs6kn2hb2b From the bottom of the small top section the bit with the capacitance hat on, some folks call it an egg whisk.. i measured up from the bottom where you slot it in 160mm and the swr on 27.555 was 1.2.. On FM for UK CB radio it was 1.3 on channel 40.. On 27.385 it was 1.2.. So well balanced for 11 meters.. hope that helps.
@DeltaXray444 hi so around 6 inches for the top section lableld L.
I can't remember what the top section was labelled as but the very top rod with the capacitance hat on.. all the other sections when put together just pull out from each other and screwed down. its only the top section that can be pulled in and out.. Also it depends where you do most of your talking with the antenna.. I noticed when calibrating the antenna if you only use CB FM 40 channels UK the swr is 1.1 throughout the full forty channels.. It's very rare I use CB FM 40 UK channels so I set my resonant frequency around 27.555 so the channels above and below that frequency have a low swr.. Also the 2016 isn't really a wide banded antenna so anything above or below 11 meters the swr starts to rise pretty fast at the band edges.. Obviously if you have a tuner or a radio with a built-in tuner like an HF radio it's easy enough to get around a higher swr.. but personally myself I prefer a properly tuned swr on an antenna.. using tuners to compensate for a higher swr above 1.5 can create output power losses of upto 10%.. Btw the best antenna I have used for low swr across 10-11-12 meters is the President Himalaya WB (Wide Band) it's an half wave and has low swr right across 8 bands of 40 and the maximum swr was only 1.4 at the band's edges.. Also at my location i didn't notice any difference in performance compared to any of the 5/8th waves I've used over the years and sometimes it performed better.. it's just one of those antennas you put up and it doesn't matter where you are across 10-11-12 meters the swr was always very low.. Sorry for the waffle but I enjoy playing around with different antennas, it's an obsession with me.
@DeltaXray444 I can't thank you enough I've got it set on 555 at 1.1 and on fm 40 it's around 1.3 at .......6,1/2 inches I'm getting great reception on usb now nothing but noise on uk 40 but apparently that's normal lol. Carl this end bud in Newark Nottinghamshire
How far does the KC shift slide will it go to the 0s
@@M6MRP Hi Phil, interesting question and to be honest I haven't put the radio on a frequency counter.. but it will go to the next channel, so basically more than 10KC's.. Also the radio works with Span mode so depending how it's set up just by turning the channel selector you can move in 1KC increments on any frequency.. so it will get into all splits.. hope this helps.. but im sorry I couldn't tell you exactly how far the clarifier moves.
@@DeltaXray444 you must be able to get to the 0s if it does more than 10kc try 27.400 just by using the frequency display on the front, I'm looking for a tidy desk radio with a front speaker an dont want to mod it for the 0 in between channels rather leave it stock.

@Delta Xray 444 is there an export mode for the new President Washington? I heard they have left the wire cutting and moving over the Jumper and instaead of that the New President Washington is all menu driven. SO to make the President Washington in export mode you have to do a keypress Ninja movement just like the CRT SS 9900! Is this true Delta Xray 444??? Thanks for any reply !
@MAGNETAR-187 im sure it will have export mode at some point.. most new radios now are either jumper or snip a wire or both and menu driven. like everybody else all those that have an early version I've not seen any information yet as to how it is done.. I still think it will be a bad seller with having a few watts more than the George 2 that nobody will see the difference over distance on ssb that anyone will see on a meter/receive and a few more options.. what they should have done at least is change the design there won't be many people that bought a George 2 will buy this radio.. the original Washington was an iconic radio and also an homebase.. to slap the name Washington on the new radio and it being the same design as the George 2 does a dis-service to such a great old radio.. for the life of me I cannot understand why this radio was even made in the vein of the original Washington homebase.
would I leave this connected all the time?
No it's not necessarily. It's entirely up to you.. it doesn't have to run inline all the time and you can just use it to see what your power levels are.. if you want to use it inline all the time that's fine too.
@@DeltaXray444 thanks; have a great day

Yes they have made some good radios in the past, I have quite a few of them.. good luck with the Washington.. Although with that radio I was hoping for an homebase version of it and not a mobile to keep with the style of the old one. Still a nice radio though.
@@DeltaXray444 Thats true, I think todays technology is so small they will always make mobile versions. I also love home base stations but because they are bulky to ship President makes a lot of their radios mobile. I thought a President Washington like the old model would be a base radio. But they stay with mobile version! The washington is just a George II but 80 watts of PeP. 73's and a happy Sunday!!!
Im Sure someone at President in there design department could come up with a really nice design for a modern day looking homebase.. not just those at President but other manufacturers could quite easily make them.. there is a market for the homebase radio and folks would buy them.. I know Galaxy and a few of their sister companies are probably the last ones to put out an homebase.. Im Not expecting a big box radio like the Jumbo's or Lafayette type but they could make them much more modern with slick looking features. Another reason im disappointed in the Washington are for the reasons you mention here.. Nobody will ever see the difference on ssb with the needle between 60 and 80 watts so what's the point it doesn't make sense.. Also we know President George's surname is Washington but to make a radio identical using the same model seems crazy to me.. it's like they just got lazy and rebranded the George 2 with a few extra features that nobody cares about.. and to be honest there will not be many ham guys who would buy this type of radio for use on the closed bands when you can buy a very good HF radio probably cheaper that is much better, covers more frequencies, and has much better filters with more power and functions overall including an tuner. Take the Yasue 450D it may be a little older but spec wise it is a vastly superior radio in every way you can imagine and you can pick one up second hand in mint condition boxed for the same price or less.. in my opinion I don't think the Washington will sell that well.. just my thoughts.
I've realised many many years ago that ALL antennas in there own category as in halfwaves and 5/8th waves measured to frequency all work the same.. so no antenna regardless of quality or brand name all work the same.. there is no secret to talking skip it's mother nature that does the heavy work, even a very cheap magmount will out perform a beam or larger antenna if mother nature is on your side. One thing I will have noticed though with some antennas receive slightly better than others but only by a needles width or two.. The Gainmaster is very quiet and more so than any other antenna I have used in my location.. as for running power mother nature will out perform 10 kilowatts when she sits above you regardless of which antenna we use.
Is this the same way you can get a modification/setting to Export on the George 2?
No the George 2 is similar but different in how it is modified.. My George was widebanded for me when I purchased it.
They don't sell this 1200 W model in the United States,😡 And I want one but can't get it. They only offer 200 W here and that's not enough for my system
I would look at AliExpress they do both models.. im not sure if the brand name but they do all come out of the same factory regardless of who sells them.
scotts radios sells this now
Cpuld you add a cigarette lighter plug to use in mobile locations
Yes it runs on a 12 volt input so putting a cigarette lighter plug on the wire that comes with it isn't a problem, in fact I have a cigarette lighter plug on this one which plugs directly into my power supply.
@@DeltaXray444 how long is the cable on the swe meter do I just need a short cig plug
@@KE8ODY-WV-Ares-Ham-Dad-3O4 the lead that comes with the meter is a metre long around three foot three inch.. I extended mine as I needed it longer to run from my bench to the power supply.. the cig plug i used on mine was the standard size. The lead on the meter is detachable.
Hi Glen hope you're well great video, just a quick question I'm using the President Lincoln 2+ in my mobile station, I find with strong stations close to what ever frequency I'm on the radio is very prone to bleed over... do you think the George is better than the Lincoln?? Regards 777 Chris in Cornwall.
Hi Chris.. I'll give you my opinion on how I think President basically need to improve their radios.. all in all they are good working radios but I think they need to get better at the receiver side of things.. so here's my take.. If we are talking better receive overall the McKinley is better than the George and the Lincoln, regardless of what the manual says in adjacent channel rejection (bleedover) it's usually around 60db for each radio but there's more to it on the circuit board than that which makes a difference to final receive.. it's very technical and im not sure if im the right person to talk to.. i can build you a radio but im no radio technician.. I can only tell you from my perspective of how they perform on air.. The McKinley is a great all round performer for received audio.. the Lincoln 2 suffers more not just with bleed over from adjacent channels but also cross band interference by that I mean if you are on say 385 FM as an example it suffers from AM and also SSB transmitted interference more so as it doesn't seem to filter this issue very well at all.. whereas the the George seems much better on adjacent channel bleedover but doesn't stop much of the interference from cross band transmissions.. Basically it's a balance to get it right.. or better should I say.. and I think it's something that those at President could work on.. In saying that all three radios I've mentioned here in certain environments as in a busy area or not all seems to perform much the same as all other export radios, there are good and bad in all.. I do know President are listening and working to better their radios and in all honesty they do work well.. I find the cross band interference on the George annoying when the bands are very busy.. but the same can be said for the Lincoln ie when the channels have less powerful stations around it then radio sounds better.. it's swings and roundabouts with all these export radios but I wouldn't let it put you off as nothing is perfect it's just radio has always been like this from the get go.. it's a tough question to answer so I thought I would give you my opinion and again these export radios from cheap to the most expensive all work pretty good. I read this back and it's sounds confusing lol.. but I hope it helps.. If you want my own personal opinion on the George 2 regardless of any niggles it's a damn fine radio and in my preferred top three of all export radios that I own (35)
@@DeltaXray444 thanks for your opinion on this subject, only that when watching some of your videos I noticed you have the new George and was contemplating getting one. I find the newer Presidents a good size for mobile use, I've had a few Lincoln Mk1 over the years and like them a lot. I do like the 2+ and have great radio reports on it... but it's just those little things that let the radio down. Have been on CB since the mid 70s good old AM days off and on over the years, lived in Spain for 17 years up until recently and was 30ok777 . Once again thanks for your opinion and keep up the good work with your channel.. Regards Chris 26kdx777. Kernow DX Group.
great video, loved the conversation with Simon > just ordered my G2 this afternoon > hope to meet you on the frequency in the near future
Thank you for the kind words.. It is a very nice radio you will enjoy using it, the receiver is awesome and the clarity of audio is fantastic.
I'm Vincent, thanks 444 very good.
You are welcome friend stay blessed 73
Thank you for the video.
Hi Vincent thank you your station came over excellent and made for a very good contact. Thanks 73
Hello again Glen ,can you go -5khz and +10 khz on this radio and also does it have a built in swr meter, im thinking of buying one, is it worth the money, 73 from Andy 26DR387 NW England
Hi Andy First I have to say it works really well.. Second let me say those at President have taken the Anytone board back to their factory in France and worked on the board with respect to receive and transmitted audio.. and also tidied up a few loose ends with regards to other components on the circuit board so it is a very reliable working radio on Rx and Tx. However the radio does have it's niggles as I call them.. So for starters the channel selector feels a little wobbly but nothing to be concerned about it works well for changing channel and using the menu settings. (You push it in to select the menu) Another niggle is the incoming signal settings when using the RF gain.. it jumps down in blocks instead of smoothly reducing signals when trying to reduce the hiss from the front end noise.. Apart from that it's a very nice radio.. I've had great feedback from using the standard mic but especially using the Sharpshooter mic which everyone says sounds fantastic and definitely gives it a better audio punch over distance when working AM and SSB. Regarding frequency ending in 5/10's yes it covers both as the radio like all other recent President radios has the Span mode.. so I would suggest turning that on in the menu. Do I think it's worth the asking price.. Categorically No.. Like most radio's that are sold in the export radio market these days they all basically do the same thing and I think prices have been raised because of the cost of importing and exporting and also inflation in the current market.. If I was to give these radios a price I would be happy with I would say around £200-£250 tops.. In saying that President have worked on the board a lot and made some great improvements over the standard board that is put into these type of radios.. which is a good thing.. Radioddity have done the same thing with there QT40 model and made it so much better like President have.. If this is why amongst other things I've mentioned above has maybe raised the price then I guess it all equals itself out and the high price we pay may be justified.. It is a great radio and definitely up there with the best export models available.. I will say this though nothing in the export market comes even close to a Stryker 955hpc they are the ultimate beast on air and preferably the Mark 1 version.. the Mark 2 feels very cheap but still works well.. I have both 1 and 2 versions so definitely know the difference in the feeling of them both. Hope this helped you make a decision im not one for justifying the price I pay for a radio because it cost x amount of money for it like many people do.. if a radio has issues I will be open and honest about it as you seen in the video while talking with Simon.. and Simon also agreed with what I said and he is an advocate for President radios.. The RF gain thing could be patched with a future update.. im hoping it does. But all said it is a very good radio and out of my collection of 38 export radios the George 2 is in my opinion in the top three best export radios.. so after testing all my export models my chosen ones are number one the Stryker 955 second the George 2 and third the McKinley. Have a good day Andy and stay blessed. Thanks.
@@DeltaXray444 thanks for getting back to me Glen , the information you have given is very helpful, how have you gotten on with them equaliser settings I put you on to , thanks again 73
@@AndyOutdoorsman I did try those settings but unfortunately for my voice we're not very good, I have a very low soft voice. But they are the best settings I have used so far so all in all they work better than I could have got them so thanks for your advice and input with regards to that.. Oh I forgot to mention the George 2 doesn't have a working swr meter but does have all the other functions for warning settings which are adjustable and the swr can be seen on the front of the radio when keying down and transmitting, Have a great day 73.
@@DeltaXray444 thanks Glen that’s great 👍
Just ordered one & had it shipped to the US & great radio as we have George FCC which has no Freeband in it & can not be modified.
I can understood why the FCC don't allow the free band extras because it would contravene legalities with what is excepted under radio law.. But.. in saying that soon after they then allow the free band extras it doesn't make sense to me.. the FCC did the same thing with the President McKinley 2.. weird that.. Anyway my friend I hope you enjoy and have fun with the George 2 and as standard the mic that comes with it works excellent and sounds really good, a heads up though if you want some extra punch with audio the Sharpshooter microphone works absolutely fantastic on this radio.. I use one all the time and get amazing comments about how loud and clear the modulation is.. I've also heard it back many times on recordings over thousands of miles while skipping the pond.. The George has great reception too and the DNR function works a treat.. I have mine set on 2 and 2 for DNR and audio. have fun.
Can I buy the Euro version and use it in America?
If you put it into export mode yes it covers all frequencies across 11 meters from top to bottom and then some.. but sadly no SSB.. It's just a matter of opening up the radio which is fairly simple and snipping the two white looped wires.. you can see these as soon as you open the radio. There are videos on TH-cam showing how to do the wideband. As standard though it covers AM 26.965 to 27.405 which is the American CB band.
roadrunner 220 massachusetts usa here, i think we spoke today, on 27.415 lsb. confirm?
For whatever reason TH-cam held this comment back but I found you today, yes you are correct we did make the contact I have just checked out my log book and there you are.. fantastic friend I hope we cross antennas again in the future.
