Haha that's ok Kathy don't worry about the radio's your support is always appreciated.. Sorry and many apologies my dear friend for not being around as much recently I've had nearly ten months of catching up to do since my operation and very busy with going back to work and life in general so please forgive me I hope you are well and life is treating you good bless you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️much love and hugs❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Glenn! I completely understand. I am just so relieved you’re doing better ! I am well - still doing my thing and sometimes get some amazing stuff. Stay well my friend and I am ready for a catch up whenever you are. Sending love to you my friend. ❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Great little radios, Wow, ours in the states are AM. Very rare to find one in the condition that they are in. Great Video friend. Thanks for sharing as always.
Hey Mr Sheriff sir good to hear you are jumping the pond and around the European continent, that bit of wire is certainly working well, you wouldn't think it could talk the world.. yes they are a nice radio but time to downsize a little, I got more radios that need to go too and will do future videos on them.. I noticed while researching for the video there is a silver grey model of the portapak (I never knew that) was the same rig on AM called the portapak too or was it rebranded in another name, I know the name "Midland Alan" was what some of them like this radio was named. Take it easy you ole boot winter is coming lol
Ahh that very interesting, I never knew they made this type of antenna for the portapak, I only ever thought the telescopic antenna was made for it, also I didn't know they made accessories for it, I understood all that was available for the radio came in the box, do you know if there was any other products that was produced for the portapak. I can remember when they first came out I think it was around 1990 and my CB shop sold out as soon as stocks came in, they couldn't get them in quick enough.
The Nissei/KPO DG-103 digital metres do measure generously, i habe the KPO. I have just purchased a 77-805 for the collection, maybe a little HOTA over the Summertime 👍
This is the third meter of this kind I have had the first two were duds.. I make sure with the techy I use that all my meters are calibrated, but I agree with you some meters are terribly set up from factory.. Like most radios that have that nostalgia about them are all becoming expensive to buy.. They work fantastic out in the hills, I've seen many cross country contacts with these rigs, they did the job they were built for and have extremely good audio, I think this is an iconic radio and also it's performance holds its ground against other radios, thank you for your comment.
Classic radios, worth a small fortune i think . The starting up on ch9 is because of the NPC5121 PLL , i have seen this pll in quite a few radios and handhelds. it also does not have a channel change just a rotary switch for up/down.Nice vid thanks
Thank you for the input, I have mind blanks when doing videos, you can probably tell from my uncertainty in my voice, the old grey matter isn't quite as good these days lol.. But yes you are exactly right about the PLL chip.. I'm not a techy so I tend to forget the important things like that although I remember some stuff like turning the radio on, that's about my limit these days lol Thank you for supporting my channel you are very much appreciated.. P.S your skills as a techy are amazing I could only wish to be half as good.
Hey Ian.. I went back to work after ten months laid up after my operation so time has been hard to come by to get anything done.. I have got a few videos to sort out and put up.. it's just getting around to it but I promise my next uploads won't be far away.. Hope you had a good Christmas and I wish you all the very best for the coming new year, best of health to you and your family pal.. stay blessed.
Being that the rubber duck antenna likely has a coil wound inside it to electrically shorten the antenna, it is more desirable to use that in public, than the longer telescoping antenna. You should be able to find an adapter that will fit the antenna port on the radio, so you can adapt other types of antennas or coax cable attached to an external antenna.
On the rear of the radio there is a standard so239 antenna socket to screw a pl259 plug into so any antenna can be used.. they are a fine rig with exceptional audio on transmit and they work very well. Thanks for your input it is much appreciated.
Great wee radios for hill topping had a few over the years but never kept any for long as i prefer ssb mode to tx on , never liked this type of mic input on them
Me neither I've never liked the din plug set up I've always preferred the 4-5-6 pin screw type.. but they are a quality speaker/mic and the audio is very good on them.. nice for outdoor use but yes SSB rules.
Great video Glen
Thank you for your kind words you are very much appreciated.
