Started picking in the summer of 2018. I never really intended to make a channel. But, I like to participate in this very generous community. And, I hope that I can help another picker with tips from my journey. Also developed a love for antique locks, and like to feature my finds or refurbs on my videos.
Banjo and Dual Custody Antiques [172]
Been a while, I know. Today, I have two Yale Banjo locks, from use in the rail yards, and a beautiful Yale dual custody lock from OSU (Ohio State University). Dual custody means two keyways, and two different owners can open the lock, without having the same key. And, we'll end by doing a quick pick on the Yale dual custody lock.

That brass Yale is cool. Hey I recently found a bunch of Keline railroad locks they are all the same type. If I knew how to send you one I would.
All nice locks, specially the brass Yale, Great info. Have a great day, great picking too
Thank you, Gkeyman!
Very nice indeed!! Great for the collection! Peter's is the only other one ive seen! Nice picking!
Thank you! Yes they seem to be hard to find. And not much info on when they were made, or what they look like inside.
@@dougpickslocks I think that's what Peter was saying as well... why tho bottom part if it was all hollow lol
I think the shape might be meant to fit into some narrower enclosures and make it easy to grip when putting in the key. Never caught on.
@@dougpickslocks That's the only thing I could think of...
Oh wow you got some nice finds for your collection, interesting to see that you overcome the missing keys, brilliant 👍 Also must mention well done on the pick 👍
Thank you, Tony!
I am also interested in how you make the key after you have the impression, did you make the impression tool ? I would like to see more detail of that. Thanks in advance.
That was interesting I have heard about the clover leaf but not the stretched out letters Not only an interesting channel but informative to 👍
Thanks so much! Happy to add value.
Thanks Doug! Old locks are great, I recently picked up 2 old railroad locks. One is an Adlake the other is an Eagle. Great video!
Cool! For those railroad locks, join the antique railroad collectors Facebook group. Lots of good information there. m.facebook.com/groups/RailroadLocksAndKeys/
Great locks you have there. Question does the ending year for the stretched out Yale lettering, apply to pin tumbler too?
Yes, definitely. I have not been able to find a catalog for the 1950s. But I’ve seen ads from 1951 showing pin tumbler locks with the stretched out logo.
@@dougpickslocks thanks Doug 👍🏻
Cool like to see how you transfer the bidding from the Impression-er? to the key hows it made thanks for the great video
That’s good feedback. It might be a while before I get the chance to do another one like this. But, I will make sure to film it and show that part of the process.
@@dougpickslocks Cool ill be there
Very cool! I love these old locks! beautiful! Love Peter's channel as well! Thanks for sharing these! Very cool impressioning as well!!
Thank you for the feedback. And thanks for enjoying these beautiful locks!
Hey Doug, where did you go?
Heh. I’m out here. I tend to only post when I buy something. I actually have a purchase. But I am trying to cut the video down so it’s not so boring. Hope to post it soon.
Thanks
Thanks I got 140s I can not pick at all because of the bitting , very ashamed , thanks , moe
I am so happy you helped me open this master padlock. I know I have the key somewhere and I didn't want to ruin it by cutting it. But now I'm fascinated with all these locks and want to learn more. And thanks to @AlexBlate for being able to see the guts of the thing!
now I can't do it again. :/
Same thing happened to me. Aim for that 7 to 8:00 position, and make sure you are using enough pressure. You'll get it. Remember that it's not just one press and you're in. You are gradually loosening several levers. Keep pressing them each, and don't forget the one near the front of the lock, that's the one that springs it after you get the others.
@@dougpickslocks thanks! I was really about to give up! Got it! 😃
Great channel I so love the vintage padlocks, don't care about the picking just great to see what's out there 👍
That is a nice Sargent. I also like the one from Resse .
Nice haul 👍
Thanks, @tequiladave!
I've had one of these Master 66 locks since I was in middle school which I used to lock my school locker with... however, I lost the keys about that many years ago and had not been able to open it since, but I still kept the lock. I tried opening the lock without success many times before and I also tried doing it the way you did yours in this video but was also unsuccessful, so instead I used a two sided approach with lock opening tools I had personally fabricated a few months ago, not to open locks but as tension bars and they actually worked to easily open the lock. I inserted one from the front end and one from the back end and simply pushed both spring levers in and voila... it finally opened again after decades of being locked. Thanks for this instructional video, it was immensely helpful in understanding the mechanism for this lock.
I started picking locks a week ago and just today I finally successfully picked several locks. However, I was unsuccessful in picking one of these type of Vintage American Locks because of the deep false set, after which I could no longer push pins upward and I did not know what to do, but after watching this video and one from Lock Noob's channel, I now understand how to approach the false set. It must be a factory thing with these locks because all of them seem to falsely set and bind on pin #1.
Beautiful. But you skipped how you took it apart the rivets and how you reassembled the faceplate.
I'm glad you did this video. I just purchased a similar Corbin off eBay and will need to impression a key for it. I coold not find a patent image for this model, but was happy to at least see you found an advertisement with a model#.
After your comment, I did another scour of the patent database, and did not find anything more. They must have just used a patent for some existing locks. This is a unique one. I wish you good luck keying it!
Nice locks. I'm going to be on the lookout for one of those Yales. I have what I believe to be a Sargent lock but instead of letters mine only has 3 chevrons. What do you think?
Yes, that's Sargent's more modern logo. Here's hoping you find one of these Yales. They can be priced a bit higher. So, wait for a good deal.
LOL, Thanks for sharing the prices. You read my mind. When you started showing that first lock I was thinking "I wonder how much he paid for that?" I LOVE that eagle with the org. key! Very nice (just a reminder Christmas is coming up soon.... hint, hint. Thanks for the video
LOL, if only I could send out antiques a gifts, I'd have a lot more friends. I'm much more conservative about what I purchase, and that Eagle was nice to get, but even nicer when it surprised me with the sheer size.
As much as I enjoy the picking vids I so really appreciate the old padlocks you share. You have got so much great stuff, also it's kinda nice to know what you have paid. I've got a few great finds here in England. And haven't really paid too much, so I'm happy Great Chanel looking forward to seeing what's next 👍
Great feedback, Tony. It’s a lot of fun finding these gems and then sharing them with you guys. Great to know you folks are enjoying them too.
Great locks and cool story! Well done on that Sargent 👍 Happy Thanksgiving to the family 👋 🐈⬛🐾🐈🐾👍🦃

a good deal on some nice looking locks
Yep, I was very happy with the deal. Thanks for your comment!
Well done on the pick 👍 But the best thing was to see what vintage padlocks you got! Wow really really nice 👍
Thank you for watching, and for your support, Tony!
Awesome picking on that Ving!!!! Gorgeous vintage locks!!! Great to have a buddy help with the search 😀 Hi to the family 👋 🐈🐾🐈⬛🐾🍻
That search buddy is going to cost me a lot of money, if he keeps finding these good locks😜. Thanks for your support, I love the Ving. Would not have it, if not for you. Family says "Hi" back!
A Corbin warded lock, that has a similar to body to a lever lock. I have never seen one before. I'll be on the lookout for one. I recently found an old rusty Klein railroad lock. It's soaking and I'm hoping.
Yes, I jumped when I saw that warded Corbin. I've seen thousands of locks, and this was a first for me.
Some beautiful looking locks to have gotten, wonderful job with the picking, you made it look easy
Thanks, Steve! Took many hours of picking to lead to the quick pick. Thanks for appreciating these beauties.
Great video my friend
Thanks, Thumper! Stay well!

What beautiful Yale padlocks - Peter Lewis is drooling 🤤 Nice one Doug Cheers and all the very best to you and yours 👍 🍻
I know Peter loves his antiques, and brass, especially! Thanks, and best to you and yours as well!
Love the vintage locks,👍 Really great video, you got some real gems
Thanks so much, Tony! I feel very lucky to be able to source these beauties.
Awesome old padlocks, and they cleaned up really well. What do you use to remove the rust and how do you keep the rust from coming back. I find that when I have used vinegar the rust just comes straight back even if I spray the lock with a penetrating lube like wd40. Do you have any suggestion, cheers mate good to see you again
I do use vinegar as well, and sometimes number 0000 steel wool. Sometimes you need the wool to break the surface and get the vinegar under there. You are right about it rusting. They call this flash rust. You need to use some light Cooking oil or every day oil. On iron, like push key locks, coat them, so they are wet and let it soak in for a while. They are very porous. Then wipe off the excess and leave just a thin extra layer to dry and seal the iron. With steel, just a thin layer and let it dry no need for the presoak.
@@dougpickslocks Thanks for the information, cheers
Lovely collection Doug, nice picking too.
Thanks so much, Brett. Happy to have you watching.
@@dougpickslocks yer welcome.
Hey Doug! I have a Yale & Towne model 605 that works the same way. Mine doesn't say Baffler on it though. Very cool
Very cool. I see the 605 in their 1929 catalog. Can’t find the baffler, though, I’m sure I’ve seen it somewhere. The way they have fancy names on everything in their 1908 catalog, I suspect the baffler eventually turned into your 605.
Some new life for some old locks Thanks for sharing 👍
You bet
Beautiful locks there Doug. Great to get the keys. Cheers mate and all the very best to you and yours 👍 🍻🍻🍻
Thanks, same to you and yours
Very nice find 👍 shame about the damage but still a great display lock
Awesome pick
That's a lovely padlock, great demo👍
That's a great find 👍
Jealous Jealous! Those Corbin locks are great. Corbin is one of my favorites 🎉
I'm also a Corbin fan. With a little lube, they are now operating smoothly, and I've made a key for the round one. I'll be showing my cleanup progress on a future video.
Around $4 a lock! What a nice haul. Guess you'll have some picking content for a while.
Yessir. Even if it were not for the highly valued ones, that is a great price for any of these locks. This was a lucky find for me.
Love the vintage locks I got a great little collection here in England of vintage locks, can't find a catalogue of our padlock history very disappointing. Made me smile when your locks got camara shy and refused to open 👍
Yes, they always get camera shy on me. Many were rusty/gummy and needed a bit of shackle tugging. Now I am lubing them all and getting them going. Great to hear you have a collection. Check out antique-padlocks dot com. They have a lot of literature under the Downloads page.
@@dougpickslocks ah, excellent thanks for that info, I will have a look now 👍
