  • I start with a virtual parade of antique lock purchases, and then move on to show you how a Master 66 (and 77) work, and how to get one open (not technically picking)

    You are very good at explaining these locks & mechanisms. It looks like MasterLock is just as secure today as they've always been.

      LOL, sometimes the MasterLock packages are harder to open than the locks 😜 Happy to know I was able to add to your knowledge.

    I've had one of these Master 66 locks since I was in middle school which I used to lock my school locker with... however, I lost the keys about that many years ago and had not been able to open it since, but I still kept the lock. I tried opening the lock without success many times before and I also tried doing it the way you did yours in this video but was also unsuccessful, so instead I used a two sided approach with lock opening tools I had personally fabricated a few months ago, not to open locks but as tension bars and they actually worked to easily open the lock. I inserted one from the front end and one from the back end and simply pushed both spring levers in and voila... it finally opened again after decades of being locked. Thanks for this instructional video, it was immensely helpful in understanding the mechanism for this lock.

      Yes, I find them unique, and cool. I bought all three that the seller had, with no hesitation. Thanks for watching!

    Some really nice finds there. What luck finding a working key for the RR lock! Thanks for the breakdown of the 66.

    THANK YOU. After 2 hours of struggling, I was able to pick my antique 55 Master lock in less than 5 minutes after watching this video. (The previous owner had given me the wrong keys.)

      So happy that my instruction has helped you. There are times I wonder if what I’m doing only works with the lock I own.

    Just tried that technique on my master 55 and it works on that model as well

      Excellent! I always worry that it might just be the config on the lock I had, and isn't reproducible. Happy that it worked for you!

    I am so happy you helped me open this master padlock. I know I have the key somewhere and I didn't want to ruin it by cutting it. But now I'm fascinated with all these locks and want to learn more. And thanks to @AlexBlate
    for being able to see the guts of the thing!

      Same thing happened to me. Aim for that 7 to 8:00 position, and make sure you are using enough pressure. You'll get it. Remember that it's not just one press and you're in. You are gradually loosening several levers. Keep pressing them each, and don't forget the one near the front of the lock, that's the one that springs it after you get the others.

    Greetings from Peru. Got several brand new in their boxes. Should i sell them? What would be the correct price? Thanks in advance.

    • @dougpickslocks
      @dougpickslocks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, Peru. Amazing. You can double check SOLD items on ebay (never trust asking price). New in box, they are worth $15-$20 USD each. But, there is probably more value because I bet there are not many of these, especially in new condition, in Peru. All about location.

      Hard to know for sure. The company history starts in 1921 and they introduced the combination lock in 1935. So somewhere between 1920s and 1940s? Just guessing.

    • @dougpickslocks
      @dougpickslocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good luck! You have to press in each lever a couple of times, and be sure to press it pretty deep - remember you are working around those steel plates, and you need to get the end of the lever off of the shackle.
