Note : also no extra cost for lock hardware that saves a cost even if use a side lock the cost is under 10.00 . Also any door that has locks on the door has to be made inoperable .
@@user-bv2hc8nn8m Very true! Good point.
We have OHD Co The Strut doesn’t cost very much & a operator bracket full one . No more then 50.00 ! Figure it in the cost instead of a up sale & saving the money on tracks . If no opener on the job or customer never going to put a opener on then it’s ok . Unless you buy a power coated bracket . Your saving a lot of time you can do the job correctly even if the customer doesn’t want you supply the strut . That’s not Professional thing to do . Been doing doors residential & Commercial for over 40 years .
@@user-bv2hc8nn8m I appreciate your feedback, but as you see in the video your just being technical based on something and some WAY someone has taught you. I go off what my experience has taught me. And I have learned if I take care of customers and their door then there will never be a need for a top strut because even the door alone without an opener moves up and down like butter! So, thanks brother but Im here to break the mold and get off the old traditional and “technical” ways of doing things. But thanks for the engagement. Much appreciated!

If you were installing the tracks what is the best to way to ensure they are square? Measure the width of the vertical and then compare it to the horizontal tracks?
@@nhbackyardgarage1892 I don’t do that sir. Experience has allowed me to to visually scan and make changes based on what I see. If we are being honest you can check all you want but some foundations are so messed up it dont matter. Ive learned thats being more technical than necessary. As long as your panels aren’t rubbing and the cable are both tight your good!

Pretty sweet & easy install since they only wanted the panels swapped. I do quite a few of these types of jobs here in the Atlanta area. What do you do with the old panels…? Are you scrapping them at the metal yard for cash or do you just trash them…?
@@brandonleesanders Yeah this was easy. I had all the tracks ready to replace and the customer just came into the garage and said “I don’t see anything wrong with the tracks so you can leave those if you want and still charge same cost etc!” I’m like OKAAAYYY thats a win all day! lol I do scrap the metal and all parts for money yes sir. nice work man! Can you do a video talking about torsion springs. How to determine the proper wire size and length?
@@nhbackyardgarage1892 sorry for the delay. Yeah i’ll try to get around to do that sir.

Dope vids bro question what’s the fastest way of installing a door do u track it first or nail the panels then track just curious
Nah, we track it first. One side first, set the bottom panel in with rollers into the track and then do the other sides tracks. Then from there we literally just stack the panels one at a time, use vice grips to hold the door against/in the tracks and while the vice grips hold the panel in place we then freely shoot the hinges and hardware on one panel at a time. We have tested and timed it and how I do it beat most other guys that challenged that way vs theirs! But I guess it just depends on what feels more natural to you. Maybe I’ll do a video on it in depth here soon
Thanks for the engagement sir
@@dapperdudesgarageawesome thanks for your response ! Question when you say you track it first do you track it with the horizontal already attached to the vertical ? Sorry for all these questions I’m just very interested in being more efficient and quick I’m trying to bonus from my job lol the way I’m doing it now is i track it both sides like you said then stack panels, after the last panel I hang up the pole with the springs then go to left side attach the horizontal then right side then I wind it up then go to the back hangs then hang up my operator and do all that, thanks again for u reply i watch all ur vids !

does the torsion spring lose tension when the cable comes off or no?
very minimal, but when it comes to tension, you don’t want to lose any. So i usually do a full rebalance so I KNOW the cables wont come off again and i’ll be right back on a warranty call!
Hey Jesse, for one I appreciate the way you show and explain the steps. It has helped me personally a great deal. The “professionals” can take a hike as far as I am concerned. Keep doing what you’re doing brother. Keep pushing and GOD bless.
Thank You sir. Much appreciated! Yeah I get a lot of private messages from so called “hot shots” who know it all, yet its funny they are still taking orders as an employee. Guys with 10-25 years experience still trying to tell me how to do it! Lol cracks me up! Jealous dudes out there I guess 😂
I started a Garage Door Business in January, after I couldn't get a company to answer or return my phone call. (There's only 1 company in my area) I've got a fence company I started 8 years ago and we do 600k a year, so I thought why not start a garage door business. Found you on TH-cam and got fired up!! Found a training facility in Maryland, booked a class January and BOOM, Garage Door Solutionz LLC is up and running!! You are truly doing a great job, especially with your detailed videos!! I've watched, retained and applied several of your techniques, which really helped in each situation that I came upon!! Not sure that I would've pulled the trigger and started a second company without watching your channel! Keep up the great work and know that you have one Alabama Company rooting you on!! Be blessed!!
@@craigharris6394 Thats awesome sir. Congrats on all the success and the fence business. 600k a year??? Go get it man thats awesome! Now onto garage doors huh! Got that entrepreneurial bug huh. I wish anyone had a channel like mine I could follow! lol God Bless my friend.
@dapperdudesgarage was wondering about the commercial job. Is it panels or drum doors? If drum doors, I need to learn how to install them, and I'd be wiling to drive to Houston to help on a few for free just to learn. Would you be willing to let me help on a few? FREE LABOR. I could only stay for a day though. Got a lot going on!!
@@craigharris6394 Yeah they are big steelback commercial sectionals. Basically like residential common doors just on steroids
It was a fascinating video, I learned a lot of things from you, planning to replace my old wooden garage door with this ( from Home Depot). One question: I did not see the purpose of the safety cable, could you explain it to me. Thanks.
Safety cables are a MUST on those extension shutting systems. The purpose is because when they break they literally sling shot and are very dangerous, however, when running a safety cable, once the spring breaks it simply stays on the cable line and doesn’t fly off and damage anything or injure anyone.
@@dapperdudesgarage Thank you very much for your reply. I have 2 more questions: If I buy an 8x7 garage door from Clopay, will the panel be 8 feet wide? my old wooden panel is 8 feet wide so I want to make sure it will fit. Another question: Should I buy the insulated or non-insulated door? someone said the non-insulated is not sturdy, what do you think? Thank you again.
@@henryh2159 Yes, if you have an 8x7 door currently then an 8x7 is what you need to buy and it should fit no problem. As far as insulation it dont necessarily come down to sturdy, it boils down to R-value pertaining to how hot or cool the insulation will keep your garage. Keep in mind what the people call sturdy pertaining to insulation is also extra weight on the door! Either way, either door will last LITERALLY a lifetime if taken care of and managed properly. The hardware such as spring will break down, but the panels themselves should last a lifetime. Hope that helps
How much do. You charge for a change of a broken spring
You really need a strut anytime you have an operator. Also in this case it would have hidden that dent in the top section.
Lol you guys don’t get it. You don’t know how to play the back door game at all! Thanks for your comment!
I know this is a late comment, but 100% it's from not using the grease. I've been doing this biz 24 years, and I've seen it a bunch of times. If you don't put the white grease, you'll be back in a week guaranteed!
Thank you for that 24 year experience heads up. But its also from not putting all the parts on. I do agree though. I went back and did it all right and put the grease on everything…the shaft, sprocket, everything and its been several months now and the guy has since reached out saying its running great! Thanks for the help sir!
You installed the top brackets all the way at the top but the instructions say to install 3 and 1/4" down from the top. I think this is to give you room for a top support bracket if needed.
You could be right, but your looking WAY too much into it. Instructions in some regards are not an absolute, rather, more of a dummy guide! Thanks for the comment
@@dapperdudesgarage I'm installing a garage door now and this dummy needs the instructions but they aren't that great.
@@dapperdudesgarage The door set includes a small metal support bar to go across the top in the middle but it is too wide to go on the door frame. The holes don't line up with anything.

Hey Jesse I eventually want to get into the garage door trade. I work at a factory now where I listen to a garage door Playlist that puts me ahead of the learning curve. I plan on taking an online course then getting a contractor license in Michigan. Just wanted to say thanks for paying it forward with your videos.😊
Thats awesome. Congrats. Many are mad at me for spilling the beans but its worth it. This job is better than most 4-6year college degrees by far on average and the ceiling is even higher than that of doctors etc. Of course you gotta put in the work and do things right. But man how lucrative this career is!!!
I always carry extra pieces of rope and tie the door hinges to the track to keep it from falling as I insert the new rollers and then remove the ropes once everything is back together.
I may try that myself. Thanks for sharing sir

What garage door brand do you recommend for your customers
How much did you charge him for the conversion
I think I did $700 plus tax with a lifetime warranty. But my warranties are legit and we honor them. Not a bad price at all considering i will for sure have to service the door again under warranty at some point
@@dapperdudesgarage I worked for precision in the past.. I charged people $2500 😕... I have my own company now, my charge is $850, 3-month warranty 🫡

Can we make this same door a high lift door?
Yeah absolutely.
you can have the tracks raised and even match roof pitch. Just need to figure out the calculations on the lift and your golden! Higher longer cables, longer spring, bigger wider drums etc…
Nice sticker … them pinchless hinges seem to be a pain think they don’t make that style any more I salvaged some hinges off a take out just incase I need some on service too..
How much do you guys charge for a job like that?

Way to go man, glad to have you back! 👍
Oh, I have an idea for a video! From your experience and perspective, what is your opinion on guys who may want to specialize in a certain area for their business? Lets say a guy only wants to do door installation or only garage door repair or garage door openers as opposed to the guy who wants to do all three? Because I think the business is more versatile than people give it credit for being? What say you?
Hey Bruh, I thought you were too busy to post anymore! I was thinking, " BUSINESS MUST BE BOOMING!" Anyway, I hope all is well and I hope you keep the videos coming. And I say that because you provide a balanced perspective on the garage door repair business in a more balanced and positive way. I say that because there aren't many guys on TH-cam providing knowledge about the industry and the ones who are usually on opposite sides of the spectrum. One guy makes everything sound like the business is all gloom and doom and then the next guy make the business seem way too peaches and cream! So it's good to have someone saying " Guys this business is very doable. If you do the right things you can be successful. Welcome back!
Add a couple more cranks to the spring.
Very insightful. Good ideas are everywhere. But doing the work is what makes a good idea profitable.

@@sosgds Not that big yet, I only have a couple guys running for me on repairs when I get backed up and a door guy who helps when I’m backed up on doors. Its trending upwards in a hurry. Investors may come on board soon to blow it up due to the whole “Dapper” niche in the industry!
