You’re welcome, happy to help! I saw. the list online and thought there’d be a fair number of people who wouldn’t know what was retiring.

I think the Arctic Explorer ship (60368) was actually a pretty well designed set. Expensive, but you do get a massive ship hull that can be repurposed for some other build if you want. Never a steal because of the very high MSRP price, but I picked it up for about 50 euros less than retail (33.4 GBP or 42.1 USD discount) and I think it is worth it if you can get an equally steep discount. The inside of the boat is quite well furnished and detailed and you get a little underwater treasure sidebuild, a small helicopter and a huge Orca with it. On a similar note, I also bought the Cargo Train (60198) and was surprised at how well it came together. Especially the locomotive is the best recent lego train model and it has quite a decent amount of track, a crane, a signal control tower, a forklift and an armored truck for valuables. This I would probably have bought at full price as well, but again I had a good discount from a toy store. Certainly one of the best RC train sets. The only downside I could find is that if you run it at full speed, it will derail in the corners, the motor is really powerful and the track cannot handle that speed.

I’m not sure that’s entirely true. it’s one of Lego’s most popular themes and unlike so many other themes that get cancelled after a few years, it’s effectively been going since Lego Town… FORTY FIVE YEARS AGO. You might be able to say that a few sets are boring, but definitely not the whole City theme!

@ definitely have seen one cool town set also it sells the best because it has the most verity the amount of sets that retired is bigger than all the currently available Star Wars sets I find that the city sets are pandering to children with to many play features and not enough detail

@@BrickedUp-d9h This is true, but one redeeming factor is that Lego also keeps the prices lower, especially if it is a smaller set. It's probably not entirely fair comparing the theme with the worst pricing (Starwars) with City, but still I think a lot of the smaller sets are reasonable in their pricing, precisely because they are for children in the first place.

I think you are right, but personally I do not care in particular about the vast majority of these sets. The main draw for me is getting unique things like the animals in a cheap way from the Arctic and Jungle explorer sets. Nearly all the vehicles and buildings are far too unrealistic and more meant as playsets for kids. I'd prefer to design those on my own and I think that is the case for many older lego city fans. I gave some examples in a post below of sets that I liked, but basically all the small explorer sets are worth it, especially on a discount.

I think you’re right that it can be underrated, but I don’t think it’s a forgotten theme, think how many sets get released each year, we’ve had the entire space sub-theme this year and all the explorers sets. As far as sales goes, it’s one of their most popular themes.

They might have offered it to Canadian creators too. But it seems pretty random who they send the "High Five" emails to. I've been over the 1000 subscribers for over 2 years now, and I think I've only had 3 "High Five" emails. - The first two were a free coffee from Costa, and a free sausage roll from Greggs, this was the first time I've had with the offer of an actual item.

@MinifigJez Your laptop speakers are different to a phone then, as I had it on my phone, and your voice level was fairly low, so I had the volume turned up & then that Super Loud PING! came on, half deafening me!! Therefore, I recommend lowering the "ping" by around 50% in volume next time!

@@langserv I just listened to it on my iPhone with AirPods Pros, and it sounds fine. Also just checked the EQ levels in the edit and the ping doesn't hit the red line, and it peaks no higher than my voice on either side of it, and it actually peaks lower than voice in the intro... I don't know what else to tell ya !

Just the wall of vintage sets were the hugely overpriced sets, everything else was either reasonable, or just a little bit more than online prices.

Good call! In fact after filming, I picked it up with my thumb on one side and fingers on the other and two of them immediately came off!!!!! So I straight away put a 2x6 under them and that’s what I use in my Rebrickable instructions for this one. That’s what comes from reducing pieces building it in Stud.io…. It looks fine on screen but real world integrity is a lot different!!!! Thanks for commenting

Yes, they are REALLY similar looking. Never played the mobile game but a lot of teh sets were VERY cool. I only ever got one set with one of teh books in it, so I decided to get all these off Bricklink, so I had the complete set. - It was a very cool theme.

It was released in 2019 in the Hidden Side set 70424 "Ghost Train Express" It was in a 2nd set in 2022 in the City set 60335 "Train Station" Last year it was in set 76423 "Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station" And now this year it's in this tram set. I've had lots of teh light parts, but I have never owned one of teh sound bricks. As I remember, I think there are only two... 1 is a city vehicle siren (police car, fire engine etc) with two different type of siren and the other was a space-themed one, but I don't know what those two sounds sound like!!! I'm just off to do a TH-cam search to see if I can find out! - EDIT: I just realised that I DO have a sound brick in my JetPort Fire Squad set: th-cam.com/video/OY9aR5cnazU/w-d-xo.html I'm guesing it's the space one which sounds creepy

The love for Iain has no limits :) As a regular to the show I must say that the Portsmouth show was one of the better shows in terms of displays on show.

@@HilliansBricks Yes, there were some really nice NEW displays that I hadn't seen before, some of MOCs at Brick Festivals are GREAT but have been around for quite a while now... but then you can always argue that new people are coming to them all the time so won't have seen them before. It's on;y sad people like me that go to so many that see the same MOCs many times !!!!!!!! (and the seller who told me that he inflates his prices was OBVIOULSY not you Fred!!!)
