You could turn the conservatory 90° so it takes up half the back garden (the complete right back corner). Place the door towards the back door for access. This way you have a less blocky lay out (now the conservatory looks kinda like a second car park) and you have some additional space next to the house for the football goal. This way you can place some flowers in front of the house to brighten it up a bit. I really enjoy your remodels 👍

The original one came out in 1998 but hasn’t been in a set since 2006: www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=x45pb03&in=S They re-released it in 2016 (with one less black pentagon!) for the German Football Collectable Minifig Series, and then used it once in 2023 in the series 24 football referee: www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=x45pb07&in=S But since 2013, all other sets with a ball in them have used a plain one. 😞
@@MinifigJez hi did you see that the latest lego city magazine that came out today (weds 22-05) has a modern yellow spaceperson with a little robot build paperbag free gift for £4.99, a good deal do you think? Worth checking out?
Yes, it’s a GREAT set. Have you also seen the amazing “Modern House” which is being released on 1st June? You can see it here: brickset.com/sets/31153-1/Modern-House
Thanks, I was playing around with the idea of the overhang, 'coz I didn't like the look of the roof being flush with the edge of the walls, then I suddenly realised a row of plates would then fix the gap too! Thanks for commenting.
Thanks, if you like the MOD, I have some other vids using two sets, doubling them up to make a bigger version: Car Wash: th-cam.com/video/uVEk95HjmDU/w-d-xo.html Modern House Part 1: th-cam.com/video/9VGbrFbOQJ4/w-d-xo.html Modern House Part 2: th-cam.com/video/egVPuOxlWwM/w-d-xo.html
Sweet modified version of the house. The end result is much better, the house is probably small enough to not take up too much space and bricks, but also big enough to fit just about everything needed inside, instead of feeling extremely crammed like the original version. I also like that the greenhouse is on the side and the driveway is extended, so you have more space around for making a bit of a garden. One small detail that could help the conservatory look aesthetically better, is instead of putting both 1x6 black tiles on top on the door assembly, one on top and one on the bottom, so the door sits in the middle, or 2 dark gray 1x6 plats both on the bottom, so the black is level with the rest of the building. If the step up into the door is too high, you can always add another small plate or 2 as a step up into the door. (or add some round tiles as a cobbled path into the conservatory) Also, replacing that ugly gray brick where the shower head is on the other side is not a huge issue, just use a medium nougat version of the brick (it exists) and everything else stays the same. You can also get rid of the groove on the side below that, replacing it with a regular medium nougat 1x2 brick and then you can either get rid of the groove on the bottom as well, or replace two entire rows of grooved bricks (the 2nd and 4th) so the side is as synetrical as can be, ... or alternatively you simply ignore it :) Overall I like the look of this house, it is really classic with the box style and the V shaped roof. I''m not a fan of the car, but the house and conservatory look really nice together, the only thing to add is some things in the garden, like plants, maybe a tree and something to play with for the kids. Thanks for showing us these modifications, all very elegant but not too hard solutions that are easy to follow for an average builder. I think you struck a niche here with your Mocs, this is something I haven't seen around youtube anywhere else so far.
Thanks for commenting. Firstly, yes, you're right. Even doubled up it doesn't take up too much space, no bigger than a normal modular building, fitting on a single 32x32 baseplate. I love your idea of the grey plates under the conservatory door, but it will make a big step outside (which can easily be fixed with some steps) but it'll also be a whole brick height inside, so I'd need to think of a way to make a compact step, a 1x4 plate with a 1x4 tile on top maybe. I'll see how it looks. Many thanks. I'll definitely get a medium nougat version of the shower head brick to go above the window, and I think the best way to blend it in (so one brick doesn't stick out like a sore thumb!) is to use regular bricks BELOW the window too, so the whole window 'panel' is flat rbicks without the groove, then it looks more intentional that the groove is not there. And lastly, when my LEGO City is eventually built and this goes into it, I'll make a garden. The set has the kid's football goal already, but it'll need plenty of plants too and maybe a BBQ with a garden chair or two! Thanks for your kind words, I love seeing multi-thousand piece impressive builds on TH-cam, but for me and many others they aren't something I'd be able to do myself, so I prefer the simple approach to updating existing sets, which I think is more attainable for most people to do themselves. If you haven't seen it yet, my latest "Double MOD" is the new Creator 3-in-1 Modern House set. If you're interested, you can see it here: th-cam.com/video/9VGbrFbOQJ4/w-d-xo.html
@@MinifigJez Thanks for going in-depth on my comment. I used a ton of words to describe some very simple modifications, but I think you understood the idea. I agree with your solutions and had totally forgotten about the small football goal. I did see your 3-in-1 creator house mod, it was probably as good of a modification as this one, but I simply like this structure a little more. (it is less modern :P) Hopefully we get to see that city, or small updates for it, some time in the future.
That would look AWESOME. I bought two of the Harry Potter Privet Drive House to make a 2-house mini neighbourhood, but a whole row of these would look so good. Thanks for commenting.
I think I'm going to have a bit of a compromise. You're right, it makes more sense to be on the back, but then the house would have no space at the front, so... I think the compromise should be to keep it on the side of the house, but turn it round so the doors open into the BACK garden and not the FRONT garden!
