Not counting the motor and extra car, the changing of colors to make it look more visually appealing was a good idea and it always makes me wonder why Lego didn't design it (and other sets where this happens) in the first place.
I think it's normally to do with other colours of parts in the set and maybe even with availability in the factory. But that's the beauty of Lego, once we have teh set we can swap parts out, I did a lot of colour swaps in the recent Sightseeing Bus set too. Which, if you're interested, you can see here: th-cam.com/video/rm9QVECVQtk/w-d-xo.htmlsub_confirmation=1
I didn't know that... but I am actually working on my own version of lowering the floor, as I don't like the big step UP inside the cars! I guess great minds, think alike!
Yes, I know what you mean, but… …if Lego had made the set like this, it would have cost a fortune, probably a lot more than buying the parts to do it yourself!!! Thanks for commenting, I’m glad you liked
Lego maybe should have offered this centre car as a powered add-on option (maybe the additional coach too) , that would have kept the original set affordable and aimed at the market it's aimed at whilst also providing an option for those who want a powered version..... in fact, they could still do this if they wanted to.
@@ForburyLion that's very similar to how trains used to be back in the 80's. You could get the 7740 train set, and then add on separately sold sleeper and mail cars. Or you could buy a push-along train, and then add a motor. Lego don't give trains the love that they used to !!!!
@@CupidVRofficial That sounds cool - I hope you have fun building it if you end up getting it. There's a complete parts list etc on Rebrickable if you ever decide to do this motorisation. Thanks for commenting.
Yes, they cared SO little that trains were running around the place, that it actually hit one of them at one point, because he sat on the track! And when it happened he wasn't even startled, he just looked at it and then casually wandered off !! Thanks for commenting, and glad you liked the vid.
Hehe I have done actually same as you, 5 part train. My engine car has a bit a different design at the sides, basically 2 x 4x4 studs filled with the black tiles you have as well. I have a glass at both ends of the Engine car. My further modifications are, I have done all passenger cars low niveau floor as another one here in you tube already did. So my whole train is wheelchair accessable, 4 platforms. My both trains I have got Magnetic Standart connecters. As the gap is 1 stud longer, I have another modification added to visually influence the gap. The black tiles each corners wich need anyway changed from 1x 8 original to 1x 6 becomes an additional 1x 6 plate in red, so it seems its closer together, and the train looks quite cool with it as well. Another modification I did was add additional roof supplements, like red current lines on black holders, with inputs for the cars aircon, further on the engine car with the Pantograph ( wich become another modification as well tomorrow when the parts arrived , build it bit bigger ) there are additional equipment for Main Current switch, Engine Fan Filter Inputs, Main Inputs of the Current line for the electric equipment an engine car had inside and finally on all cars black grip holders in black at each of the ends asymetric at left side. Looks quite cool yet like a real train finally looks on the roof. Another modificaion I want do ( just came today in my mind and I forgot to order parts is, each end car becomes a signal typhoon. Or I will see if I have the parts in my stock... I will see, as soon my train is finish I think I will post a video with the result of it. Still parts left yet, at least the 1x6 plates in red also take longer as I thought. But I think end next week should be here.
Thanks for the sub! While you’re waiting for the next video there’s a whole playlist of my Lego City MODs that you can watch, if you want. You can see it here: th-cam.com/play/PL0A-CMNXDNYOBUnSw5eiG_Sh_3XM2SJ2a.html
Thanks for showing another motorized version of this train. 🤗 I saw already one on another channel and I like both versions. I really like the design of this train and I think, I have to rebuild one for my brick-build Monorail 🤗 Greetings from Switzerland Buttermaker
I saw other people’s motorised versions, but they all had the battery box on display through the tram windows, which I didn’t like. Your monorail looks amazing. it must have taken a LOT of parts to build all your track!! I think this set would look great modified as a monorail.
Wow! You have made this expertly and it seems like something Lego would make! This is why I have been subscribed to you for so long. Maybe next you could try extending the platform so the extending sections match up with the tram.
That's a good idea. I will probably not use this station for teh tram though as I have several older stations that I prefer. WHEN I build y LEGO City I will have to make a BIG station! Thanks for subscribing, I'm glad you like my videos.
@@MinifigJezMaybe you could modify the old stations to include the extending platforms, so that they could be closer to the trains. You could also build them right up to the side of the train, but the side of the platform is shorter or could be retracted. Thanks for the reply!
Hi! I like your version of this City Tram very much! First time I saw this Lego set I thought “very nice idea, but without a motor? That makes not sense for me!” So I planned to modify the Tram as soon as I buy the set. Your idea with the power car is awesome! For my Tram I will use your inspiration with the additional power car but I will modify the train to 8 weight. I like the way you make your videos! Of course I subscribe to your channel and I’m looking forward for more great content but first of all I go and check your videos in the archives! 😊 Greetings from Germany Karsten

The door scream for the door opening mechanism we seen on an other train set. And if we get the lights working it would look stunning in the dark . A platform extension would be great too 😂 otherwise a great modification
I'm thinking about making a second video with some extra MODs. The one thing that annoys me the most is the huge step up into the train from the door level! Lights would be a great idea, but getting a cable from the centre car to teh ends might be too difficult. As for the station, I have the larger City station from a few years ago, so that's what I will use in my Lego city, and this will just be used as an extension to that station. Thanks so much for commenting.
That's really cool what You have done. Simple, but effective. What I really don't like about this tram are doors. I think that those don't match to vehicles. They are fine for structures, but LEGO put them to trains and buses as well. And I don't know why, because there arę doors masę specially for trains, 5 bricków high and used for decades. So You can use those or build sliding ones 😆
Yes, I'm not a big fan of using the new 6-wide door frames on trains. It means this tram and the last passenger train, both need a platform height MUCH lower than ever other Lego train that has ever been produced before !!! (not helpful to Lego City builders!!!!) I LOVE the old 80's train doors, and it's great that they still put them in sets occasionally. I've just planned a Hogwarts Express coach using the 80's train doors. I thought they didn't look bad on the recent sightseeing bus, as they look similar to some bus doors I've seen. Thanks for commenting.
Great job Jez, you have given me some good ideas for motorizing my set, but it's only just arrived so still in the box. I might just have to buy a second to get the pieces for the mod, it could work out cheaper than buying them all from Bricklink over here in NZ. Love the sleeping dogs in the video.
Yes, I’ve heard that parts can get expensive in NZ and OZ, so a 2nd set might be a better idea. Let me know how you get on. The dogs are miniature sausage dogs, and were completely uninterested in the mammoth train layout going on !!! Thanks for commenting.
That's so cool. I love that people are liking this MOC and are wanting to add it to their own Lego Cities. Come back and let me know how you gt on with it.
I;m glad you liked it. Adding Lights is a great idea, but will need a big modification as the set doesn't come with any suitable place to put them, because of the way that the ends of the Tram are built. - It's something that I'll look into though.
@@MinifigJez You're absolutely right - the tram build the way, that front/ rear lights aren't the "native" and immediate modification as motorization. I mostly thought about interior lights , re-using variety of third party kits for previous passenger trains.
I've definitely seen Dunk's tram, and I might have seen the other at a show if it's made by an LUKR member. They are a much more detailed sort of build, than a regular Lego City tram!
I really like how you built the extra power car to hide that box. My plan is to just go with one copy of the train, and do the same mods that you did to the hook-ups. Now I am contemplating what to do: To put my last 9V motor on, or also go with the power up function.
Oooh.. those precious 9v motors!!!! I just bought the World City set 4511 High Speed Train, with a nice condition 9v motor in it. The seller on ebay also had a 2nd engine (without motor) to go at the back. After the Metroliner, it's only my 2nd ever 9v train. But how I wish FX Bricks had delivered on their idea of a 3rd Party 9v motor, which they talked about a few years ago. Thanks for commenting... let me know which way you end up going... 9v would give you more passenger space!
@@MinifigJez it is a bummer that LEGO went away from 9V. I likely will go the 9V route, as my city has the 9V rails installed. And having a commuter train going around it makes more sense than a long distance train. I also agree with you on passenger space. Plus I would not need a second copy. Yes, I got lucky that I started collecting when 9V was still the status quo, so most of my trains are that. Also 2 copies of the World City set, plus the Metro Liner, an older freight train, the older red Crocodile locomotive, Santa Fe, BNSF, and Mersk. I need a bigger city really, but hey, I am not a millionaire. And it also is just a hobby and not a job, unlike Bricksie the TH-camr I follow. He has an entire studio! LEGO is just awesome!!!!
@@LivingRetirement Yes, the revenue Bricksie gets from TH-cam must be immense. (I'm not quite there yet!!!!!) When he was moving, in one of his videos, he said that the budget for renovating the warehouse unit was $50K, but the implication was that this amount was on top of the cost of the actual unit itself. My channel just about covers me being able to buy a few sets each month! Glad you managed get hold of so many 9v trains, they were in my brief "dark age" between buying as a kid (in the 80's) and buying as an adult (I restarted in 1999) so I missed out on them. But I have some lovely 12v trains and accessories!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I wanted it symmetrical, so I guess the only way I could reduce the number of cars is to just have the two driving ends, with the power car in the middle. But as teh cars are SO short, it's actually still not as long as most of my regular Lego trains !!!
What didn’t you like about the technique used for sides of the power cars? It’s the same technique that Lego use for many of their own trains? I’d be interested to hear your views.
@@TwinCastleBricks no, not flimsy at all. They’re very secure. I’ve actually now taken out the 1x2 black supports at one end, as they hold in fine with just the 2x2 gray and white ones at the other end. It’s actually a tried and tested method that Lego use to hold panels, to hide battery boxes, used in trains: - 60337 Express Passenger Train - 60197 Passenger Train - 60198 Cargo Train - 60098 Heavy-Haul Train - 60052 Cargo Train - 10219 Maersk Train The earliest of which was 2011 ! @@Daniel-legobuilder That's great to hear that it's inspired you to have a go yourself! I used to just buy and build sets, but just tweaking them slightly is GREAT fun. Never modify so much that you don't recognise the original set, but it's fun to just make a few changes, making parts larger or more enclosed. And after all, that's the whole point of Lego, You can start with one thing and change it into something completely different !
Idea: merge the driving cab and the passenger car into one unit and swap the bogies for the articulated ones, where one of them will be powered and the other one just free rolling.
SO do you mean just two REALLY long cars? or two quote long cars with my existing power car win the middle? I wouldn't;t want to go longer than 32 stirs or they won't fit round my track very well !
Unfortunately I have zero knowledge or expertise in Gaming (I don't even have a console!) so I think thats' something I need to leave to another Lego channel.
@@MinifigJez PC is a thing, and if your rig can handle video editing software it can surely run these games, there are also channels that stream the games. I was just interested in seeing something that is like abandoned metro tunnels used by people like lego city criminals using the subway stations of the abandoned track as their HQ, all ramshackle put together like from a post apocalypse prop and have repaired old metro trains they use to get around unnoticed and commit crimes as lego city police and its theme is rarely a focus in any display beyond a PD and a few cop cars, and i just admire your skill in making things clean and pleasing to the eyes.
If it was a train, I;d probably go for it, but as Lego intended it to be a light tram, it doesn't;t have corridors, so the cars aren't connected (it has windows on the ends) Also, Jacobs would need a LOT more work as none of the single wheel sets are articulated, just a pair of wheels stuck under the car!!!! - This one was never going to be a major modification, just a few colour changes and the all important power car !!! Thanks for commenting, you've actually inspired me to, at some point, make a train with Jacobs on it, I've only ever made trains with regular bogies.... I'll add it to my very long list of "things to do" !
@@MinifigJez My trams always had jacobs boogies. Works fine... and i don't know any modern tram, without gangway connections, I'm sure it doesn't look otherwise in the UK :D

Thanaks for commenting.
That's a good point! When I was building it, I also thought of the very old British Rail APT, which also had a central power car without windows. Thanks for commenting.
@@PYROWORKSTV yeah, that would be possible, but… like I said in the video, then you would see the battery box through the windows, which I thought would look pretty ugly. So that’s why I put it in a separate car.
@@MinifigJez which is totally reasonable! But still x) Maybe you could try using a third party battery box and motors. Die hard Lego fans started to use these too, because of the great form factor.
LEGO thought they could fool buyers with a budget train with no blue tooth motor, extended track and ramp crossing(pedestrian/vehicle), and no crossing gates. They do call it a Downtown Streetcar, at 90 bucks no but if it was 75 then a much better price value for what you get. Good but simple modding on making it a remote controlled train. Instead of this, I wish LEGO would bring back the automatic stop and go Tram, but a bit more modernized.
I don't think Lego were trying to fool anyone, they just decided to make a train without a motor and lots of track. If you look at Lego trains from the 80's you could buy motorised sets, push along sets (like this one) and ones without track (like this one) I would be VERY annoyed if Lego made this set INSTEAD of the motorised sets that we get, but you can still buy them. This set is for children who don't want all that, and just want a push along train. What set is the "automatic stop and go tram" which you mentioned? Thanks for commenting.
looks like I now have to buy another one then dont it. Must be nice to know you have that 9volt cross track piece, in another five years you could sell it and retire...or maybe buy another house?
LOL! - I bought it 13 years ago for only a few pounds and.... it was still in its box ! I'll try and wait five years and hold out for the house, but I might just cash it in for a small Yacht before that.
Has that piece become so valuable? I've actually still got two of them in my old childhood 9V set, didn't know they'd become sought after. Tbh, I wish instead of the shitty battery powered systems Lego had just made a 9V motor with remote control support. But I think the real reason lego wanted to abandon 9V is that over molding is simply far more expensive.
@@justjanne-de I think the actual reason was that if they made toys that needed a power supply from the house mains, it was classed differently to toys that just needed batteries. Basically battery toys gave them less headaches than supplying mains powered toys (in some countries at least) If you want to check out the value of the 9V crossings you can see the ones for sale on brick link with the link below. Used ones starting at £14 new ones from £23 the most expensive (I presume mint condition) is £52!: www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=32087c01
Yes, is this form, definitely MUCH too short! - But I will most likely use a completely MOC'd station when I eventually build my LEGO city, the coffee shop and parts of this will be incorporated into it, but the actual platforms will be completely bespoke. - Glad you liked the look of the train, and thanks for commenting.
Good point about the grey being more like metal. I also just yesterday tried using 2L technic bars, instead of 3L ones, and it was a complete disaster, it's fine until it goes through a curve and then immediately has a curve in the other direction... the wheels lift off the track and teh whole thing derails!!! - So I'm still working on MODS for this set. Thanks for commenting
The best place to buy spare parts is Bricklink.com. I haven't made any instructions for the build, other than teh video itself, but I'm hoping to find time this week to make some and add them to Rebrickable.com
Not easily, the front of them are SNOT built, so there's no place to add the connector plates. It could be done, but it wouldn't be a simple MOD, I think you'd have to re-design the complete front. I like to make my MODs simple so as many people as possible can try them out.
I’ve seen a few people make power lines for Lego trains, but it needs a lot of pieces to make it look good. Maybe when I build my Lego city I’ll give it a go.
I tried this mod myself, but I messed up because at 9:28 you said that it could’ve been a 2x6 plate, but using a 2x6 plate doesn’t give you the gap to be able to attach it to the motor the way you did. Great vid tho 🤙🏽
You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! - I do apologise! - I completely forgot that the motor has the two lugs sticking out, which need to go into a brick not a plate. - I hope it didn't spoil your enjoyment of making it. - Did you have the right plates to be able to fix it?
@@MinifigJez It’s all good ha. I used your mod for inspiration, but my intention was always to come up with my own design for the train cart. I actually ended up making a couple of miscalculations in other places, so I had to make one final order to finish everything up. Right now I’m just using different colored plates as placeholders.
@@YailexRosales Have you ever tried using Brciklink's Stud.io software? Yes, they are REALLY similar looking. This is beautiful! Have you tried to reduce the length of the coupler link even more? Changing the coupler design a little bit to remove another stud of length.
Ooooh, that’s a good challenge! I’ll have to look into that and see what I could use. I’ve already changed the 4L technic lift arms for 3L, so it MIGHT be as simple as changing the 3L for 2L!
2L will work but you will have the 3x2 modified plates with the hole touching each other and may cause derailments. Could be worth trying with modified plates 3183 and 3184 couplers.
@@jossdeiboss GREAT IDEA! Also, I love those parts... I had loads of them as a kid in the 80's, including the blue car trailer with the tow ball on the end which attached to 3183 - so thanks for the trip down memory lane! I've only got 2 studs width where the 3x2 plates are, so I think I'll try: 15456 and 63082, which have 2x2 plates on them instead of 1x4 plates. (They are also VERY prolific in Black, so cheap to get hold of!) Thanks SO much for the suggestion.
Glad you like the idea! I wasn't sure myself about the 1x4 plate but I didn't remember there was a 2x2 plate as well. I agree that that one would work the best. Not sure about the switches but it's worth a try! If you try this MOD and is succesfull, I'd love to see the result!
It's really tricky to get any sort of corridor connectors between Lego train carriages. The R40 curves are so sharp that it doesn't give you much lee-way. reducing the couplers down as I have done I think has helped this model a lot, and I've tried the next size down, but then the corners of the coaches collide with each other on the curved track. Also for this model, the inside doesn't;t give any indication of being able to cross between coaches, which is why they have windows in the ends, but adding an extra stud width of 1x4 in the middle of the coaches on regular trains, allows for cornering. Have you seen someone else use corner bricks on a model? I'd like to see an example if you know of one. Thanks for commenting.
By the by you can add the whole electric grid for trains and trams if you suspend it above em held by pylons that elevate it and suspend it above the train like how traffic lamps are, yes the train may not touch em to not clip with em but it's something
Yes, I;ve seen other people do that in their Lego cities, but it's not something that I can do at the moment, as I don;t have a permanent City layout. But maybe in the future I could.
@@MinifigJez it would be pretty cool plus it may spark back the love for old electric busses, these behemoths with the two antenna like struts that go up to touch the electric line, i really miss those
I wonder if it would be possible to use a universal joint and a couple of those free spinning axle to pin pieces. It has a free technic pin in the bottom middle of each cart...
That could work. I've tried several different methods now and haven't found one that I REALLy like. I'll check my parts drawers, and if I have the pieces I'll try your suggestion.
@ Cool. I didn’t have anyone laying around, but it would be nice to see if they would spin into the correct orientation, or if they would need the blue pins to hold it the right way.
What colour were you referring to? I think the only bit I removed was the azure plate above the couplings. The reason I did that is in my experience, the ends of a train are generally dirty and the owners normally just leave them black, and don't bother decorating them with their company's colour scheme, unlike the sides of a train or tram. - Let me know what you think.
@@MinifigJez At the end of the day it’s personal choice. Your train set your rules. The azure plate matched the seat looking from the top down of the carriage. I just would have kept it and just changed the coupling. I guess continental trains are kept cleaner than ours.😅

Great mods. I don't like the interiors.. I would change the 4x2 red bricks to 4x1 remove the seats and make a bench on one side and standing room on the other.
I really like the idea of making the passenger area wider, with seating on one side The only trouble is that if you swap the 2x4's for 1x4's, they will only be attached by one stud, the other three are floating above the wheels. (with a 2x4, the other studs are holding it in place) Lego don't make 1x5 bricks (which could span the gap over the wheels) but I suppose the 1x4's would be held in place by the window and tiles above, but it would be quite fragile. I'd also need to scrap the chairs that come with the set, and make a brick-built bench seat, as the Lego chairs can't sit in front of a brick, I'd need to leave a gap between the wall and the chairs, so they'd end up in the middle of the train car, not leaving any space for the standing area!!! BUT... the idea is good, and I think I might do a second video modifying the interior of teh train, so I;m going to add all your suggestions to my list of things to do!!! Thanks foo much for commenting and I;m glad you liked the video.

Mainly because I only have one 9v motor (which is inside my Metroliner set) and I only have a small oval of 9v track, and it costs an absolute fortune to buy more on Bricklink!!!!! It would be even easier to do this MOD with 9V and you could even keep it as a passenger car too! If FX Bricks EVER release their 3rd party 9v motor, which they talked about ages ago, then I will DEFINITELY convert everything to 9V. Do you have a lot of 9V stuff yourself? Thanks for commenting.
@@MinifigJez Yeah sure, 9v tracks are VERY expensive! Without the battery box, it will be nicer at looking! No I didn't have a lot of 9V but I will purchase 9v tracks and motor to motorise the tram (and to upload a video about this set :) ) Greetings from France 😃
Unfortunately, because the cars all have fixed wheels that don;t rotate, you can't extend the carriages by more than a few studs. It would need to be turned into a full train with wheel bogies. So in this case I think. I'll keep it as a smaller tram.

@@scooterfrank128 because it didn’t come with a motor, and most Lego train fans like Lego trains to be remote controlled. (I think the number of views confirms this)
Oh no, Lego put so much effort to make the set as ugly..ah I meancolorful as possible and you replace it with unrealistich colors (like black). That is not rue modern Lego. Only a set with arure, medium pink and reddish blue light gray is able to bring joy. And don't you you dare to play with it. Trains ar not supposed to be played with! ;-)

After a few requests, I have now taken the time to make a parts list and Rebrickable instructions for this power car MOC, which you can find here:
Rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-191260/Minifig_Jez/power-car-for-downtown-tram
This was amazing! Someone here also lowered the passenger floors so that the wheelchair slides easily off the platform onto the train.
I didn't know that... but I am actually working on my own version of lowering the floor, as I don't like the big step UP inside the cars!
I guess great minds, think alike!
Totally looks like an official set! Love it!

Brilliant design. This is the set Lego should have given us.
Yes, I know what you mean, but…
…if Lego had made the set like this, it would have cost a fortune, probably a lot more than buying the parts to do it yourself!!!

WOW! - You've modified it to the EXTREME!

When I saw the Thumbnail for this, it reminded me of the Stadler FLIRT trainsets.

One word: awesome!
I just might buy two of these sets for myself to do the same thing 🤔
That would be cool, you could do a lot with two sets.
(not helpful to Lego City builders!!!!)
I LOVE the old 80's train doors, and it's great that they still put them in sets occasionally.
I've just planned a Hogwarts Express coach using the 80's train doors.
I thought they didn't look bad on the recent sightseeing bus, as they look similar to some bus doors I've seen.

Great job Jez, you have given me some good ideas for motorizing my set, but it's only just arrived so still in the box.

Glad you managed get hold of so many 9v trains, they were in my brief "dark age" between buying as a kid (in the 80's) and buying as an adult (I restarted in 1999) so I missed out on them. But I have some lovely 12v trains and accessories!
Thats how the set should look(maybe less carts but the one with the engine is a must)

I wanted it symmetrical, so I guess the only way I could reduce the number of cars is to just have the two driving ends, with the power car in the middle. But as teh cars are SO short, it's actually still not as long as most of my regular Lego trains !!!

@@PYROWORKSTV Yes, I especially like the "Circuit Cubes" which are SO tiny.
If you look at Lego trains from the 80's you could buy motorised sets, push along sets (like this one) and ones without track (like this one)
I would be VERY annoyed if Lego made this set INSTEAD of the motorised sets that we get, but you can still buy them. This set is for children who don't want all that, and just want a push along train.
What set is the "automatic stop and go tram" which you mentioned?

looks like I now have to buy another one then dont it.
Basically battery toys gave them less headaches than supplying mains powered toys (in some countries at least)

Hi, looking realy good. Only the trainstation is to short now 😉
Yes, is this form, definitely MUCH too short! - But I will most likely use a completely MOC'd station when I eventually build my LEGO city, the coffee shop and parts of this will be incorporated into it, but the actual platforms will be completely bespoke. - Glad you liked the look of the train, and thanks for commenting.
The grey coupling could better represent the metal, but also your mod matches the shorter bar you replaced so either way.

Very cool!!
can you make the driving cabs that you can couple two trains? ßäöü
Not easily, the front of them are SNOT built, so there's no place to add the connector plates.
It could be done, but it wouldn't be a simple MOD, I think you'd have to re-design the complete front. I like to make my MODs simple so as many people as possible can try them out.
Make a powerline for the pantograph
It 's really good to try things out, before you buy bricks, to make sure you have everything right, and then you can send all teh parts in your model to a Brciklink wanted list and order the parts. I;ve used it on lots of MOCs and MODs and found it really useful to make sure I have everything right, before I buy !
@@MinifigJez I knew that Lego had some type of virtual builder, but I didn’t know that you could connect it to BrickLink. I’m fairly new when it comes to making mods, so there’s still a lot of things that I don’t know. If I was more of a serious builder I would look into it, but I mainly just make simple mods to a little city that I built for my little nephews. Thanks for letting me know tho 👍🏽
@@YailexRosales No problem. If you ever get into bigger more complex builds, it's a GREAT way to try things out without having to buy bricks to try it !
14:07 That looks like the old 7938 passenger train and I also think that the streetcar and station it is based off it
Yes, they are REALLY similar looking. When I made the original video changing the colour scheme of that train, some people agreed with me that it also looked very similar to the 1980's train set: 7745 High-Speed City Express Passenger Train - If you're interested the original video is here: th-cam.com/video/qpeWAHSYHFo/w-d-xo.html
❤
Thanks!
(They are also VERY prolific in Black, so cheap to get hold of!)
Thanks SO much for the suggestion.
Glad you like the idea!
I wasn't sure myself about the 1x4 plate but I didn't remember there was a 2x2 plate as well. I agree that that one would work the best. Not sure about the switches but it's worth a try!
If you try this MOD and is succesfull, I'd love to see the result!
@@jossdeiboss I’ve already added the parts to a BrickLink shopping cart… when I eventually buy them I’ll try and remember to let you know the results!
I was wondering, whether using L-shaped bricks could help to fill the notable gaps between cars, creating the illusion of "harmonica".
You made a Stadler FLIRT train
They definitely look similar. The FLIRT has longer carriages, so maybe this is it's little brother ?
@@MinifigJez It kinda looks like a electric Stadler GTW :)
@@eingleiser Yes, it's a very similar shape.
@@MinifigJez it would be pretty cool plus it may spark back the love for old electric busses, these behemoths with the two antenna like struts that go up to touch the electric line, i really miss those
very good
Thanks!
2:42 I thought that was a piece of hair on my screen and tried to blow it off.
Whereabouts? - I can’t see it!

I'm going to try and make some instructions for the power car this week, and put them on Rebrickable. If I do, I'll add a link to the description.

@@muffin_the_seal Great - have fun building!
"TRAM! TRAM! GO!"
LOL !
thanks for making me smile !
Great video, but I think taking away what colour the passenger cars had was a mistake as it loses its continental style appeal as Lego is Danish.
@@simonmaverick7018 "Your train set your rules" made me chuckle! I just double checked the parts list, and the plates/chairs are called "Dark Turquoise" which is also a Lego colour I'm not that keen on myself! (My mistake calling it Azure, I double checked the parts list because I quite like Legpo's two Azure colours, so I wondered why I'd pulled them out!)
I think I'm going to revisit the Tram MODs anyway, to widen the inside for more seats and lower the floor to get rid of that awful step up, once you get inside! Once that's done, the original Turquoise would only be visible from outside anyway.
Thanks for the comments, it's great to hear what others would do to MOD sets.
Awesome job! But where did you get the train cross intersection? Did you make it? I SO need one! Keep up the great work!
I just saw a different angle. I think it was part of the 9v set. Right?
@@mcgigglepantscreations730 Yes, Its a very old 9v version. - You can just about see the colour difference in some of the shots.

If you REALLY want one, depending on what country you are in, there are 59 for sale on Bricklink at the moment.
They fit together with the modern plastic track perfectly, you just have the added metal rails, which don't look too bad, next to the plastic ones.:
59 currently on Bricklink:

If you want the set, with the box, it looks like there are 34 for sale:
www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=4519
SOME of the listings (11) say they are in the new Blue/Grey colour, that is the same as the plastic track, but most are in the Old (V Grey colour.
I hope you manage to get one at a good price!
Great mods. I don't like the interiors.. I would change the 4x2 red bricks to 4x1 remove the seats and make a bench on one side and standing room on the other.
I really like the idea of making the passenger area wider, with seating on one side
The only trouble is that if you swap the 2x4's for 1x4's, they will only be attached by one stud, the other three are floating above the wheels. (with a 2x4, the other studs are holding it in place)
Lego don't make 1x5 bricks (which could span the gap over the wheels) but I suppose the 1x4's would be held in place by the window and tiles above, but it would be quite fragile.
Your thumb ring looks identical to my wedding ring…
Cool, does yours have an inner and outer ring too, so that one spins around the other one?
@@MinifigJez No it doesn’t, I didn’t know that was a thing! I want that version now!
@@mb2000 They're generally known as "fidget rings" and you can get some with ratchets inside, so they 'click' as they turn. The raised bit in the middle of mine just spins either way on the fatter, inner ring. It used to have black inlay in the two grooves, but after 10 years, its all gone :(
Thank for the chat... but we didn't talk about Lego at all !!!!!!!! ;)
it looks awesome! Why not use the 9v system?
No I didn't have a lot of 9V but I will purchase 9v tracks and motor to motorise the tram (and to upload a video about this set :) )

So it's basicly the Monorail Air-Port shuttel 2.0
Yes, just a lot bigger, and much cheaper to buy track for it !!!!!
maybe you could exstend the passenger and the drivers cars😊
Unfortunately, because the cars all have fixed wheels that don;t rotate, you can't extend the carriages by more than a few studs. It would need to be turned into a full train with wheel bogies. So in this case I think. I'll keep it as a smaller tram.

Lets just wait and see what colour it is, if they make a Lego Friends Tram !?!?!?!?!

Good question...
It was released in 2019 in the Hidden Side set 70424 "Ghost Train Express"
It was in a 2nd set in 2022 in the City set 60335 "Train Station"
Last year it was in set 76423 "Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station"
And now this year it's in this tram set.

You said that you're "not really good with Legos", well my first tip would be to NEVER call it LEGOS!! it's like sheep... you have one sheep and lots of sheep, you have lots of Lego, you never add an "S" on the end!!!!!
I hope that helps. Thanks for commenting.
