      Thanks Scott. Your first sentence means "I heard that you can (are allowed to) ride THE motorbike." since you added the accusative case suffix. Motosikleti-i.. If you wish to say "I heard that you (are able to) ride a motorbike." then you should say , "Motosiklet kullanabiliyorsun diye duydum." And your second sentence means " I heard that you are able to ride a motorbike". Thanks again

    Can use “çay alabilir miyim” in a home context too ?

    • @TurkishJourney
      @TurkishJourney 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, but in a home context, you are a guest that is why it is more appropriate that you are offered tea ( drink options such as çay, kahve, su or something else) instead of asking for it. However, when you finish your tea, if you want again, then you can say, Bir çay daha (or Bir tane daha) alabilir miyim? Hope this helps

    I've had a lot of trouble getting an intuitive feel for the different types of nominalizer in Turkish, so this is pretty helpful. Thanks! Q1: What verbal morphology can the nominalized forms take, if any? Q2: What about participles?

    • @TurkishJourney
      @TurkishJourney 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there, I am glad that this video has been helpful eben though this is a very short overview. Nominalization in Turkish is a big topic for sure and there are many suffixes for this purpose with their variations acorrding to vowel harmony and consonant mutation ...etc. I will cover this topic in detail in the next videos (and they have been a part of a lot of my videos briefly due to their involvement in may concepts) but here is a brief answer for you. 1. Verbal Nouns are basically nouns and they can take the suffixes the nouns can take. Noun case suffixes, plural suffix, possessive suffix, genitive case suffix..etc. And they are all used in different grammatical concepts. Example - yap-ma-y-ı accusative yap-mak-ta locative git-me-ler plural etc. 2. Participles (verbal adjectives) can also take suffixes but differently. But, in Turkish, adjectives can act as nouns as well so in that form, they behave like nouns. yap-tığ-ı şey ( dık --- tık --- tığ ) verbal adjective suffix ( -ı possessive suffix.) yaptığı (in this form becomes verbal noun) and can take case suffixes.. yaptığı-n-ı accusative case suffix.. Well, this is a very long topic honestly and i will need multiple videos to go through this in the future. Hope this helps for now.

      Hi there, These are verbal noun suffixes. I have not covered that topic in detail yet however, I mentioned them in many different videos. There is a short overview here for example: th-cam.com/users/shortsYo6kLrwrXQM And if you take a look at this playlist (th-cam.com/play/PLASGkqfm55wTLfbf57_3QubW_EA69vw3W.html), specifically the videos "I want" and "I am ready to...", you will find examples to these. Hope this helps for now.

Yani bu 4 way wovel harmony her ek icin kullanilmiyor sanki.

      Most of the time, It is pretty straightforward. When a nominal sentence whose subject is 3rd singular person (he/she/it) or sometimes 3rd plural depending on the case (a sentence whose predicate is a nominal (not a conjugated verb) becomes a definite direct object of a transitive verb, then you need to use "olduğunu" in between. For sure with some changes as I have explained in this particular video. Try to make some sentences and i will correct them for you here with explanations.
