Teşekkürler Sercan! Is "Asla" markedly different in expressing the idea of "never"?

Rica ederim. "Asla" means never (under no circumstances, whatever happens) as well however, they are not always interchangeable.
      And "asla" sounds stronger.
Babamı hiç görmedim. (I never saw my father)
We would not say "Babamı asla görmedim".
"Asla" is used in general in present and future sentences.
Meyve suyu hiç içmem. (I never drink juice)
Meyve suyu asla içmem. (I never drink juice)
Oraya asla gitmeyeceğim. ( I will never go there.)
I will soon make a video about it.

In the last sentence, why do you use "yok" instead of "var"?

I believe you are asking, "Senin hiç arkadaşın yok mu?".
In general, in the existential question sentences with ownership meaning (possessive existential sentences) such as "Do you have?", "hiç" is used with "yok".
      Senin hiç arkadaşın yok mu?
"Senin hiç arkadaşın var mı?" is not common at all. If you want to ask using "var" then you do not use "hiç".
      Senin arkadaşın var mı?

@@TurkishJourney I see, thank you! Would it also be okay to say "senin arkadaşın yok mu" (using "yok", without the "hiç")?

Yes, you can but the meaning would slightly change.
When you ask "Do not you have any friends (Senin hiç arkadaşın yok mu?", this implies in general.
When you ask, "(Senin) arkadaşın yok mu?", depending on the context, this question would mean that if a specific friend of your is currently present, with you. For example you (you and your friend A) were supposed to meet a friend of yours (friend B). And your friend B knew that you would arrive with your friend A. The your friend A did not go with you. Your friend B could ask you, "Arkadaşın (A) yok mu?" (Is your friend A not with you.)
      Hope this helps
