Aftermarket Headphone Cables? Hart & Periapt.
It's a good speaker but at 6 grand plus a pair you are being screwed....cheap crossovers...very very minimal bracing and no anti resonance anything along with binding posts laden with iron...build your own for less that half the price with quality components and the satisfaction of your own build.
I don’t think Klipsch is targeting the DIY speaker crowd with this one. Thanks for sharing your opinion though, and watching.
Chibs, did you ever update the firmware on the Venus II? Curious.
Still enjoying stock firmware 🍻
@@MisterChibsnice 🎉yea I’m going to stick with stock firmware as is. Thank you and have a wonderful holiday.
@@michaelcuellar59for me it’s a cross between laziness, brick potential, and genuinely not wanting the sound to change. I like how it performs stock! Happy holidays man!🍻
Have you checked the I2S from your Singxer SU-6 vs the USB input of the Holo Spring?.
With this DAC, I prefer going through usb straight from the Mac mini in my setup. All ports are great though and if you’ve got a streamer that puts out i2s, don’t sweat using it. 👍🏻🍻
@@MisterChibs I own the Spring 3, level 2, USB module not as good as the titanis of your KTE, that's what makes me doubt.
@@santiagomadruga4298 Just make sure PLL is on and you’re good!
@@MisterChibs Great, thanks.
When self proclaimed fanboys „review“ their favorite gear… how objective can that be?? But it sounds okay
Everyone has a biased point of view. I’m honest and admit mine. Thanks for watching.
@ yes, I honor your honesty in that point 👍🏼. You seem to be okay!
Hey man. Did you hear about the latest update to Jplay? It now has a direct link to HQplayer. It's only been out a few days, and I've been using it instead of my regular Roon. It's not bad, I think it somehow actually sounds better. I recommend you check it out. You need an iOS device to use it though.
The review is entertaining and i get the point of conveying personal subjective experience. But please do not say "NOS DAC have s perfect time domain". This is absolutely false
Glad you enjoyed my review. At what point did I actually say "Perfect time domain"? 🤔 I'm now picturing Dwight Schrute saying "FALSE" 😆
@@MisterChibs1:40 ... I suggest studying the subject a bit more.
@@Julii_TMit’s been a while since I made this video and didn’t remember making that claim. Assuming this was how I understood it from research at the time (pun intended obv). Guess I missed the mark. But - Time domain on NOS is much better than with OS. (Dwight Schrute’s voice again) 😂
@@MisterChibs Better this time, but still not true: in NOS you are essentially ignoring any transitent happening in between samples. Whereas you try to reconstruct them in OS DACs. The idea that the impulse response is "perfect" in NOS DACs is a mith: NOS DACs give you a rectangular pulse (not a spike!!) while OS DACs try to approximate the correct response: a sinc (with pre and post ringing, that's the optimal).
To each his own, but I don’t understand the conversation around adding separates to integrated’s 🤔 Why not go for separates, if that’s preferred or desired 🤷🏽♂️
I was wondering how you hooked up the pontus 2 to the hegel h190?
I prefer using Mogami gold XLR cables but RCA should be fine if you've got short runs.
Hi, Super review I own a Bryston BDA-2 DAC, do you think I would have an interest in passing to CYAN 2 ? I have an eversolo A6 streamer and Hegel H300 amp.
Is Cyan 2 superior to BDA-2?
Can’t answer with certainty - never had experience with that DAC. The Cyan will sound different as it isn’t a chip DAC. I generally prefer the sound from R2R DACs over DS chip dacs. Hope that helps🍻
@@MisterChibs Merci😉
Compare with Hegel internal dac...same sound? Better for cyan? Better for hegel? Thanks and congratulations for channel
Cyan is an upgrade over Hegel's internal chip dacs. 🍻
Would you please list the solutions you chose for switching units to the Cyan 2 and leave them here or send them to me?
Sorry, would like to help but I don’t understand what you mean by “switching units”
@MisterChibs I want to know the devices you used to switch on the Halo if it doesn't switch to a separate source device. Sadly Halo doesn't offer a input source switch. The portion of your video when you discussed how to manage incoming sources was unclear. I look forward to hearing your "how to".
@@clarice1001nights Okay, I understand you better now. What you have to do with the Cyan2 is make sure all other sources are switched off so they're not sending signal to the DAC. If you have multiple optical (toslink) sources you can use an optical switch like this one. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08C77YD8V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Alternatively, if you're using other types of sources, consider a smart plug. I use Philips Hue - www.philips-hue.com/en-ca/p/hue-smart-plug/046677552343 The best solution but probably not the one you're going to want to hear is to get the Holo Spring 3 with remote. It's much better handling multiple sources and a better DAC overall. I did a review on my channel. The Cyan 2 is best suited to having only one thing connected and turned on at a time. Hope this helps! 🍻
Super glad I came across this. I am definitely "in" for this Dac. Price is right and it sounds like Holo really knows how to build a superior R2R. I'll keep my Schiit Modius and use it as an optical processor for my TV. As far as OS goes? Well, being a CD guy I am seriously looking at the Shanling ET3 transport with OS options.
@@charlesclifton5896 they make great DACs. Enjoy!🍻
Really enjoyed your video. Does Roon improve sound quality with streaming services?
Thanks! It can in a sense because it’s got upsampling and EQ. The combined experience is where Roon makes the largest difference. 🍻
Do you have to have a pc turned on? I don’t use pc except when I need
Yes, I keep my Mac mini on all the time. You can buy a Nucleus from Roon if you want a separate standalone server. 🍻
I have the chord mojo 1 with a normal usb cable connected to my computer and sometimes this loud white noise thing happens and it is just terrifying because it is so fucking loud and i fear hurting my ears or my hearing capabilities. Definitely going to get a better cable if that fixes this shit. I just read that it might be to transmission problem or loss of data in the transmission...
@@oo131193oo these Chord DACs are really sensitive to cables. If you had the Mojo2 I’d tell you to get a thunderbolt cable but yours has micro usb for data so I’m not sure how to help. Not a good situation and if you’re worried about hearing loss I wouldn’t even use the thing. 🍻
Thank you for sharing your experience, I currently looking at getting the Mojo 2 to work with my current 13 Pro Max (lightning connector) but now considering upgrading to a 16 Pro with usb-c, I am a little nervous as to which connectors to look at for. Hope you get everything sorted. Regards, John
@@Johnd3s hey John, it’s all sorted in the pinned comment of this video. If you end up getting 16 pro, get a thunderbolt 4 rated cable and you wont have to worry about the noise problem. I use Cable Matters brand from Amazon. 🍻
Another great review - thank you !
Thanks for watching 🍻
Not Canada happens on my iPhone 15 pro max and iPad Pro m4. Thought it was the cable.
It’s the cable. Get a thunderbolt 3 or 4 rated cable from Amazon. Look for Cable Matters brand. Problem solved. 👍🏻
Had the same problem.
I have meze empyreans a chord mojo 2 and a Onewheel gt…I had to subscribe…I’m getting new cables.
🍻 You know what they say about great minds..
Can it match Atalante 5
I don’t have experience with those speakers but the H390 can drive pretty much anything you could throw at it. 🍻
Great review thank you! You didn’t mention the linear power supply upgrade for the blue node that should bring it pretty close to Lu without the power supply upgrade Again, very nice review
Thank you🍻
So they are MFI certified now?
@@jensun77wilson not sure about actual certification.
vs musician taurus?? The prices are similar
@@이충만-z2l don’t have experience with the Taurus but looking at its specs, it’s similar to Venus 2 I compared with the Spring. If you like a remote control, native NOS, 1 bit DSD converter, screen, then spring will be better. That’s the camp I fall into. 🍻
What was the jazz album? Could only see Surrender.
Album is: Infinite Connections - Jihya Lee Orchestra.
@MisterChibs thanks 👍
@ NP, enjoy! 🍻
Thanks so much for that. I got a single dc block about a year ago as I was getting a really noticeable hum from an Audiolab 8300a integrated amp. Do you still use the single dc block with the Hegel h190? I'm fretting that despite what you said I should still use the block 6 on my h190,,,just in case! Thanks again
Still use mine with the H190. Only get the block 6 if you plan on getting a more powerful amp or want to connect more than one thing to it. If thats not you, stick with the single unit and save your cash. 🍻
45 years ago I bought my Klipschorns and still have and love them. Because of me four of my friends own Cornwall 2 and they all still own them for at least 35 years . The heritage Klipsch speakers will give you a lifetime of musical bliss and will be passed down for the next generation to enjoy . To own a pair is to take a journey into the purest and most rewarding musical experience that any loudspeaker can possibly deliver.
@@killifish13 Love this!! 🍻
Great reviews Mr C, I have the Cyan2 , I love it ..except when it hits the right side of the piano 😫 You mention that the Spring was great out of the box…while the Cyan2 needed more burn in time … Tim told me it needed 500 hours minimum, I have half of that now I “think “ the brightness is diminishing could you elaborate a little on your experience..? Thanks!
@@deepvillage Thanks. Not sure my experience will help much but here goes: When I first plugged it in Cyan2 was literally cold from the delivery truck and I wasn’t so impressed with the sound. Once I came back from a drive (hours later) it sounded much better. Was it better 500 hours later? Maybe, but there’s no way I could know for sure. If you’re still experiencing shrill treble after the 500 hrs, I’m not sure what’s going on in your sound chain. So many variables you should consider while trouble shooting. The Cyan 2 and now Spring 3 never gave me that impression in both my setups. 🍻
@ appreciate…yes I recall now our Cdn winters…I have the Gustard r26 too it’s fine but not as dynamic …but not shrill also , laid back maybe… now 250+ hrs I like it till those high octaves hit …possibly relaxing a bit …or perhaps getting used to it Tim was adamant 500+ so we’ll see , I really want to love it Cheers
@ glad you love it! I’m a Holo fan now, big time. I have a Gustard X16 that embodies and embraces the shrill lol. It sits in a drawer. 🍻
Hi, I’ve got the white noise problem with two iPads, one is an older Air and the other a new M2 based iPad. Both have usb c connectors and I’ve used many cables but the problem didn’t go away. Same situation with my M1 based MacBook Air. One certain fix is to use any kind of interface like a usb c hub or similar. But that’s a weird way to connect a device. I’ve sent my unit back to the retailer but haven’t got it back nor have I got any response!! If and when I get the mojo back I will use a streamer to connect via toslink. As I will use only in desktop mode that should work.
Try Thunderbolt 3 or 4 rated cable. USB C cables may all look alike but but there's a large difference in how they're made. The Mojo 2 is very sensitive to regular usb c cables and those should be avoided entirely. I use Cable Matters brand you can buy on amazon and have never had any problems. Same goes for everyone I send on this rout. If you at all doubt this advice, check out Adam Savage's video on Thunderbolt cables and how they compare to others. Pretty crazy.. I should really make a PSA vid on this. th-cam.com/video/AD5aAd8Oy84/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xlzqoBwbp7oK8X8f Get your's back and buy a thunderbolt cable!🍻
@@MisterChibs thank you. Will try a simple dongle (CCK?)first as I think that might work. If not then the expensive thunderbolt cable. Appreciate your guidance.
@ Don’t bother. Just buy a short cable matters thunderbolt. It’s not worth playing Russian roulette with your ear drums.
any benifits of buying a normal Lumin U2 over the Lumin U2 Mini w/ linier power supply...? any sound differences❓
Haven’t compared the two but if you’re asking, I would just buy LUMIN U2 and don’t mess with your warranty. If you want to save $, just buy U2 Mini and see if that works without any tinkering. It’s a very good streamer in stock configuration. 🍻

Worst customer service ever. You have to post a comment to the Community and you can cross your fingers while doing so. Odds are you'll never hear back. No direct email support. Ready to cancel soon
@@glennastarita9817 I really wish they had a 1-800 number for tech support. From a logistics point of view, seeing how involved some people’s setups and problems are, they would have to spend a fortune on highly trained IT staff. So I get their move. Roon doesn’t have deep pockets like Apple or even Sonos. FWIW, when I had a problem and posted to the message boards, people were very quick to help and they did. Hope you have better luck man.🍻
If you want to hang on to the node a little longer like me, here is a couple of recommendations. - Upgrade the power supply, some say it makes no difference but that depends on the rest of your equipment, for me the sound is smoother and the background darker, might be just my imagination but at least I stopped wondering ! - Do NOT use the digital volume control of the node as it kills dynamics, get a proper preamplifier !
Good suggestions! 🍻
Is this an issue on Android as well?
It's a cable issue. If you're on android and using usb C, make sure you have a good enough cable. Thunderbolt 3 or 4 rated should give you no problems.
@MisterChibs Didn't you say the same cable didn't give you trouble on the Fiio dongle? I'm glad you're hearing didn't get injured. Kinda makes me pause on buying MJ2 but I'll test a bunch of cables without putting them on
@@shareclipsave That's a different can of worms. Mojo 2 is more dependant on quality cables that other DS DACamps like Fiio. I solved the problem with an updated cable. (Video linke below) I have since upgraded phones to the latest with USB C and haven't run into any problems. Just get a good cable. Cable Matters brand thunderbolt 3 or 4 and no worries. th-cam.com/users/shortsQcLAVDozsX8?si=pZAZOKqrzeEqR_ui

Darn you…. looking at my h190. Looks like a trip to Audio Excellence is in my future. That H400 looks pretty sweet. Although might be a bit steep $$$
The 390 is in fact amazing. The H400? Stay tuned 😉
I really want to know how the SU-6 compares to things like the SU2 or SU1.
@@mat.b.I don’t have experience with those so apart from specs, can’t offer an opinion. Buy the one that fits your use case and budget. The Last DAC I reviewed doesn’t even need a DDC to sound its best. Would be a good way to go if you’re not already heavily invested. 🍻
I think every y2 revieuwer should do a hear-test and publish the results it in front of the video, just in case....... and, never take a flamethrower to a sniperfight.🤣
Enjoyed the review very much but have a question about the song ‘Here And Now.’ The version with the same artist and album cover I found on Amazon Music doesn’t have a female vocalist. It’s purely instrumental. Is there a different version that has vocals?
I found it. The track is ‘La Casa’ on the same album. Way cool!
Thanks for watching. I believe the vocalist's name is Alma Naidu and she's definitely singing in this version. That said, you may be mistaking her voice with the clarinet (Could be a sax but I think it's a clarinet) She sings along side it and the cool part I mentioned is it's hard to tell where one picks up and the other lets off. Very cool track! I'm on Qobuz and don't use Amazon anymore. So no clue if you've got a different recording. Listen carefully and let me know if you hear her.🍻
@@MisterChibs I don’t know what Amazon did but the track ‘Here And Now’ on Wolfgang Haffner’s site definitely has the vocals you describe but the track on Amazon is instrumental. The 3rd track ‘La Casa’ has a lot of that blending of voice and instruments as well. Well, thanks for the music recommendations. The album is really good. I’ll try a different streaming service soon.
@@williamhicks2763glad to help! At this point Qobuz or Tidal will be a better experience for you. Especially if you get into Roon! 🍻
What diffrent power supply do you recommend that is not stock to improve its preformance? please im new also do you need bit perfect software for everything ? or can you just plug and play music after installing drivers and that it.
Hey, you do need Bit perfect software if streaming from your computer. My favourite and what I recommend is Roon. Check out my video on that. As far as power supply upgrades for the SU-6. I never felt the need to upgrade mine. It does a great job without any mods and I’m not sure you would get a perceptible difference. Best off spending that money elsewhere (like Roon) imo. Hope that helps! 🍻
Always a fan of your videos, but not sure why I ddint get a notification for this until today 😢 Anyways great review! I found a used Holo Spring 2 KTE for 1500 and love it! Using it with my Rogue M180s and a borrowed PS Audio Gain Cell Pre, to both Klipsch Cornwall IVs and Magnepan 1.7s is astonishing. In a way so realistic and natural, too much so sometimes. Sound stage is much wider. Gonna try HQ player soon. If youre good with HQ Player, you may wanna try their Holo Red Streamer. Not many reviews of it but from what Ive heard, it does play music up to the highest limits of Holo Audio gear and would be a fun little project :)
Thanks for watching and for the recommendation! Let me know what you think of HQ player if you end up trying it.🍻
No such thing as “burn-in” for a DAC.
My favourite Mark Twain quote: “It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so. “
@@MisterChibs If you think DACs require a burn-in, your understanding of the device is a complete and utter embarrassment. And 500 hours? Seriously, how clueless are you, exactly?
Note the preamp is built into the signal path. Therefore, it isn't possible to remove it. Setting the volume to 94 duplicates normal line level input of 4 volts (balance).
This was not my understanding at all. If this is the case, I understand why they don't have a separate power button for the preamp. Thank you for clarifying! 🍻
China overpriced shit
LOVE the looks & build….but waaaaaay tooooo complicated for me. I am just going to keep smiling with my Volumio Rivo > Iris > I²S >Denefrips Pontus II!!! I just use my set-up for streaming Qobuz via a self-built Roon Server for stereo playback. That’s it…. and it is so enjoyable. I do not need a remote for the DAC…. SIMPLE is better sometimes… COOL review…but I have no FOMO!!! 😅 (you sound like you DO!!! 😀)
Sounds like you’ve got your system dialled in👍🏻 FOMO is my way. 😅
These units are sooooo beautiful. I do not need a preamp…I think that I would be more of a candidate for a MAY DAC. You NEED to review one!! 😂
@@bobb.9917you can buy the spring 3 without Preamp. I would love to get my hands on a May!!🍻
HQPlayer Desktop performs much better on same hardware if run on Linux. The delay in buffering/latency is no problem there. Offloading to GPU (NVIDIA) for compute also assists if CPU not up to task. Prefer up-sampling to DSD myself and with DSD ladder lower output (half of PCM) and HQPlayer default -3dB attenuation you will notice the need for more preamp gain. My combo consists of a Holo Audo Spring 3 KTE with Holo Audio Serene KTE side note : HQPlayer 5 has added some DAC corrections for specific DAC's
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Figures Lynux runs smoother with HQ player. 🍻
too much money!😭😭
No power button on the remote? No thanks
Why do you need a power button on a dac? Shouldn’t cost more than a few dollars per month in electricity to just leave it on.
Would love if they added a standby button! I typically do leave it on but that’s out of laziness 😅
Hey 👋 I once also owned the Spring 3 KTE and though it sounded great the PLL issue with it locking in was really annoying to me, especially when playing the next track in cue and it being of different resolution, I would constantly lose the first two to three seconds of the next track to be played. YES-I know I could have turned this function off but then why have it! In the end it was a deal breaker for me and since moved it forward.
@@juanvalentin3302 thanks for sharing your experience. Wondering what you were streaming from. The only time I noticed the locking was using optical from that TV. 🍻
Hi and thank you for your reply. I can't recall if it happened with all inputs but definitely using the I2S and USB inputs while being fed from a Eversolo DMP-A8 while playing files stored on my NAS and streaming from Qobuz. P.S. I was also smitten by the FOX 🦊 on the top. L.O.L.
@@juanvalentin3302I had the Spring 2KTE & Spring 3KTE and the PLL locking issue was not a problem using the USB input. I let me friend demo my Spring 3 at his house and when we used the coaxial input, the PLL slow locking issue arose. It was annoying and we couldn’t enjoy the demo because he didn’t have a USB option with his Wiim streamer at that time. So, I never had the issue because I was using the USB input. I understand why it was a deal breaker for you though.
Hey Mr chips, im.a new subscriber. Are you from the Toronto GTA?
@@chrishmeet yep🍻
@MisterChibs Hi, Im from Toronto as well. I'm waiting on delivery on a 300B source output stage. Would you be interested in reviewing it ? It's made by Bill Baker from Response Audio. The Harmonia V3 output stage. If you're interested, let me know.
