Welcome to the OW community. Long time rider here. There is one "more advanced" way to disengage. You can come in at speed, lean back and just as the board starts to feel the shift in your weight and go backwards, remove your front foot and it turns off. You have to learn to how to feel the motor shift and time it right. I think most people call it advance simple stop or something. Its how I get off the board.
My wife got me a One Wheel GT for my 70th Birthday. Never rode a skateboard before in my life but after a little trial & error I can finally ride the thing! Our mountain road is way too rough and full of potholes so I only get to ride it when I go into town, but I really love my GT.
Wow you have an awesome wife! Gravel is the worst, watch out for it. If you have to ride over rough rocky / gravel make sure you don't turn sharply. I had a bad fall that way. Enjoy your new GT! Mine's unfortunately parked for the winter 😞
@@MisterChibs Thank You for that good advice.. Right now I only cruise the Mall, streets and sidewalks. I wanna get really good before trying any off road trails, but with this GT I know I can ride several miles and still have plenty battery power to get back home! ... I plan to keep riding (on good weather days) for as many years as I'm able... It really clears my head of all stress to just float along on my One Wheel!
I have an XR. Had it for about 3 years now and have modified it. I just put an order in for the GT today. Can’t wait. Welcome to the Onewheel world and thank you for the video
Thanks Austin, I was nervous about the early problems too but since it took so long to get mine, I think they were mostly fixed by that point. Haven’t had any problems. 🤞🏼 No regrets! 👍🏻🍻
Oh, about that occasional speed wobble... it happened to me a couple times but the trusty Grip Tape kept my feet on my board while I rode it out. The only time Ihad to jump off was when I suddenly came up on a bunch of deep potholes I knew I couldn't handle so I bailed!.... and fell on my behind. I tend to aim much higher when riding on back roads now.
Speed wobbles scare me. I had a nasty fall on gravel while filming for one of my videos 🤣 Shouldn't have made a sharp turn with the slick tire. Still have a scar there to remind me to wear kneepads 😅🍻
@@notenrique666 I'm open to trying out other EV's even though I have a lot of fun on my GT. Saw this vid on Exway Flex Pro and it's like what a boosted board would be like today if the company still existed. Very tempted to get one next summer.
Yeah unfortunately Future Motion (the OW makers) patented the design. The only other way of having a onewheel is to build it yourself. Which is why the product hasn't evolved as fast as EUCs. Custom Onewheels are called VESCs, and they recently been proven to outperform even the newly released Onewheel GT.
Is it true the battery kicks you off at 20%? I've got an XR and can ride it down to zero, so to potentially lose 20% of a better battery seems like a gut punch
My GT kicked off at 14%... but I had been riding mostly on an uphill grade so the motor was no doubt kinda warm... it alerted me before it kicked off tho, giving me time to slow all the way down to only one mph first! I just have 110 miles of riding this far, but I really really love my new GT.
Have you had any experience with OW customer service? Seems like many GTs have the DOA or ghosting issue...and riders will eventually need support from Santa Cruz. That's a big concern of mine...after spending $2700 on it.
I’ve been lucky and not needed it so far. Having said that, I’m honestly afraid of updating firmware because a lot of people had problems. I also don’t want my motor to buzz..🍻
I’d love to get one of these things but they’re expensive, hard to repair, got tons of issues(the GT mainly) and the company that makes them is basically not worth dealing with.
I have seen a lot of these one wheel videos and this one was among the absolute best, I have been watching these videos for weeks, and now I need to save up for a good few months to buy one, and instead of a hard spot to practice, im going to try a little softer area and hit up the soccer field to learn lol.
@@MisterChibs I honestly had doubts about these for some time, but in the recent weeks, I truly have come to wanting to try one, I thought that at 35 I'm getting to old but I've seen people older then me, bigger weight wise then me ride one, so if they can do it, why can't I? Plus my girlfriend wants one to try too.
@@Thorinox dude, I’m over 40 haha, no worries whatsoever! Just wear pads and a helmet. Oh and don’t learn on grass. Pavement is more predictable and easier to learn on. Grass is more for when you know what you’re doing imo. 🍻

I hear ya there!... I got the heel-lift dismount down now so I don't have to jump off anymore!
😊
Yep that’s the best way imo. Can chew up your bumper but it looks cool and is super effective and actually pretty easy.

hmm, is this like a sideways EUC, but only one company makes it?
They’re the only company I know of. Competition would be good for all of us though, so I hope that changes. 🍻
Yeah. But you’re 1000% better off dealing with any of the EUC makers and distributors than the one wheel company.
