    I’m just now learning about a DDC as of two weeks ago. I ordered a Holo Audio RED streamer/DDC. I bought it for the streaming side to match my recent purchase of the Holo Audio Cyan 2 NOS DAC.
    The RED is similar to the Singzer you reviewed with only one I2S port and has a built in Linear power supply. Ordered the RED 10 days ago and will arrive in maybe 6-7 weeks from China.
    MANY THANKS to your dedication and effort to inform us and make us laugh.
    I rewatched your ROON vid this morning again after finally figuring out how to fix a a ROON ARC app issue tied to a port problem with my Time Capsule router.
    I will mess with the RED’s DDC capability after testing the streaming side.
    Great vid👍👍

    Thanks for this, an informative & entraining video. The SU-6 sure is a solid DDC that is unmatched for its number of digital outputs for under £1K, there are a few DACs out there that accept I2S via RJ45 which this has (Metrum, Sonnet, etc).

    Just found your channel…and am enjoying it. Plus, I have two set-ups similar to you: Main and Office. (I made some posts on your Lumin U2 Mini Post). I feel, while taking a risk, compelled here to make two posts. One over concern about wackado you…and one about the tech. "Wackado YOU" 1st.
    Upon watching your Lumin U2 review, I was taken aback (and JEALOUS!😮), of your 🔥Flame Thrower🔥…I mean…what boy wouldn’t be…but in this video…do not think for a minute that I missed how "over-knifed" you were when opening the rather diminutive package for this DDC. Couple that with how your discussion of "The Girl is Mine" immediately descended into violence…well …I thought I should reach out and let you know that we are ALL here for you! 😀 (All in good fun…BTW, I have an extensive pocket knife collection! 👍🏼)

    Thank you for another informative and entertaining video. I also own a Venus II and am considering adding a DDC. I am curious why you didn't go with any Denefrips DDCs. Also, is it relatively simple to configure I2S for Venus?

    • @MisterChibs
      @MisterChibs  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I went with Singxer because it was well established and reviewed at the time. I'm guessing DDC's from Denafrips are good as well. I'de like to try out Hermes or Gaia at some point because they offer more inputs than the SU6. For the dip switches, I just followed the instructions for PS Audio standard and have left it that way ever since. It wasn't hard, you just have to make sure you get it right. Glad you liked the vid, thanks for watching! 🍻

  • @jeffs8185
    @jeffs8185 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Your reviews are among the best. Discovered your channel a while back. Based on your review of the SU-6 and one other from a reviewer I think is great, I bought one. What dip switch settings do you use with the Venus? I have a Pontus II and I think it would use the same settings. Denafrips DACs are not listed in the SU-6 dip switch chart, so I tried the first column settings, labeled PSAudio. It didn't work, and I followed the Denafrips instructions on how to select one of eight possible settings in the DAC to match the DDC being used.

    • @MisterChibs
      @MisterChibs  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! I use PS Audio setting for Venus and believe it’s the same for Pontus. Not sure what’s going on but I believe switches 1 - 8 Off, 9 -10 On for PS Audio. Hope that helps. 🍻

      @jeffs8185 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MisterChibs Thanks that does help. I've been experimenting and music plays with the PSAudio setting with no distortion. The solution was to change my HQPlayer PCM sampling rate to a multiple of 44.1and DSD was already working without distortion.. However with DSD from HQPlayer the left and right channels are reversed when playing a channel sweep. I may have to contact Alvin at Vinshine audio.

    Thanks Mr Chibs, it's my first time watching your channel - very, very good - and looking forward to watching your other videos!
    I have an Innuos Zen Mini Mk3 w their LPSU upgrade >> feeding a Marantz HD DAC-1. I've read so many good reviews of the SU-6, however, then I heard about the "Ideon Audio 3R USB Renaissance mk2 Black Star, An affordable USB conditioner device to Re Drive - Re Clock - Re Generate the USB signal." It's from Greece, rave reviews, and about $500 USD. It's NOT a DDC, but supposedly a very competent reclocker.
    So, I'm only after sonic improvements, wondering if you or your subscribers can offer pros and cons vs the SU-6? Given the high pedigree of your main system, I think you'd enjoy trying the Ideon...thanks!

      Hey, you do need Bit perfect software if streaming from your computer. My favourite and what I recommend is Roon. Check out my video on that. As far as power supply upgrades for the SU-6. I never felt the need to upgrade mine. It does a great job without any mods and I’m not sure you would get a perceptible difference. Best off spending that money elsewhere (like Roon) imo. Lol. You've gained a new subscriber (me) within 41 seconds 🤣
    Edit: Love your your video. I use a PC, but I built it myself for this purpose. Completely fan less. SATA SSD's for music (better than M.2) that at the moment have their own power from the PSU (so not on the same cable and it's a cable with just one connection), PSU outside the case with the motherboard, GPU shuts off after one minute after opening my music player. And it shuts off all windows functions to about 7 processes running in the background). My DAC is connected via USB, but it's a cheap (NOB Sounds sells them) external USB card which in my case doesn't need power. Placed also outside the main case in it's own shielded case.
    What do you think, would a PC build like this have the same improvement as a normal laptop with the same software player? I am not sure if I should put another 700ish buck in it to be able to use I2S instead of USB, or a chassis-grounding set for about the same money.

      @@MisterChibs interesting. I have mainly seen the denafrips iris, gustard u18, master audio-x, the cheapest I have seen is small po100 pro. Have seen streamers have multiple in.

      Denafrips Hermes is the one I’m thinking of.

      Nm, in bed with fever. Coughed up something that looked exactly like a slug but I checked and it wasn’t sentient or even alive. How about you? 🍻

    You didn't find "The Girl is Mine" authentic because Michael prefers little boys and Paul knew that so he didn't bring his A game....just a theory...:)

      They both sound amazing though and the song is super catchy. This sometimes happens to me with songs like Short shorts by the Royal Teens. "Who wears short shorts, we wear short shorts." Over and over for days. 🙄🔫 Thanks for watching! 🍻

    There was nothing nasty @ All !! It may be when it sees brackets instead of parentheses!!! .( From the Google keyboard.
    I'm saying it's just a single board computer with open source software!
    If you power a fanless Mini-PC with a low-noise power supply " Voila " connect a low cost DAC for multiple outputs.
    Until I built my home theater my test equipment was top of my budget @ 40k
    Current DACs use asynchronous communication so those clocks are less critical than the in past days.
    Eliminate noise and digital shines add the right harmonics ( Tube or SolidState) it can sound better than Analog

      If you pair SU-6 with that computer, you'll notice improvements. As long as you're enjoying your music that's what matters most. My wife listens on her iPhone speaker 🤣

      @@MisterChibs Actually the SU6 a computer that's why I use a Mini PC just load Volumio, Daphile or others it turns the processor into a FPGA with more flexibility
      That's coming from someone who owned a computer before Apple Corp was founded ( Me)

      @@thinkIndependent2024 I doubt the clock is as good as the one in the SU6.

      @@MisterChibsI said earlier "Asynchronous Data " which lowers the accountability on the clock works on DACs made in the last 10 years are so MFGs omit that fact and exploit that it was once very important.( Not the same today)
      The Asynchronous technique that runs your phone all the streaming communications ( even dial up modems) Satellite communications.
      ( Eliminate the need for a master clock)
      The USB Audio protocol developed about 20 years ago fixed the problem" In the Beginning " USB was not fully capable of audio transfer and relied on a continuous clock stream.
