    Not everyone ONLY streams music. I have thousands of CD's ripped to my music server AND I stream. Roon blends them together perfectly. It's a great music management system and I love how much artist/band information they provide.

    I’m glad you love Roon, it’s always great to find something you enjoy using. I personally prefer to use the app with the streamer to integrate my streaming services, radio, downloads etc, because it’s built to work perfectly with the component. I use Auralic products, I love them and their app as my example. If you use it with a tv though, Roon adds that extra value on top of its top of the class functionality.

    Roon has many features. One of them is that it will scan for music tracks and albums on all devices on your local network, catalog them as your collection, then use them to search for music that you may like, and then suggest even more music to you.

    I got a lifetime subscription a few years ago at $500 and I am so glad I did. Roon is the best money I’ve thrown down this audio rabbit hole and I’m never going back. I’d like to think at this point they have a stable business model and with the recent addition of Roon ARC, they solved the last major technology gap in their offering IMO.

    It looks awesome, but it's solving a problem I didn't know I had and therefore not one that's caused me issues. If it wasn't so prohibitively priced I would plump for it, but it just tips over the cost vs reward line. For me anyway. Great review btw! Very informative.

    • @MisterChibs

      I totally get your point of view and felt the same way. “Why should I pay for something that I already have for free?” When you’re building your audio system from the ground up that mentality totally tracks. BUT having said that, Roon will always be looming over your shoulder waiting patiently 😉. It’s always going to be in your peripheral. Reason being it’s next level. For the price of a component, you’ll have a much better time. My guess is you’ll eventually jump on the free trial and get hooked with no regrets. That’s what happened to me and I’ve seen it happen to others who were even more stubborn. Okay, I’m pointing my finger directly @Joey G’s audio channel. He proclaimed he’d never pay for Roon and now.. 🤣 Anyhow, this is pretty long winded so to wrap up - If and when you try it out, let me know what you think. Thanks for watching!🍻

      Good question. I answer you reclined on my lazyboy, listening to brand new (and good) music from Roon radio as I type this. Decided to go lifetime membership. It was a bit of a hit to the credit card but not as much as a reasonably priced audio component. So many spend thousands on components and gear only to listen to the same stuff and not try new music. Roon helps with this and the value is definitely there. It also becomes a better deal the more I use it.
      Oh and just for fun the album I'm listening to is The Polyphonic Spree by Salvage Enterprise. Thanks for watching my vid! 🍻

    I use plex. I tried to get kodi to work reliably for years to no avail. Once plex became stable, i switched. I considered roon for years - until their last price jump. I still have a lot i want to upgrade in my system - on a budget - so, as great as roon looks, I'll probably be using plex for the foreseeable future. I paid about $75 for it many years ago. They added a dedicated music player and regularly add features, but i wish they'd just try to copy roon. ;) Well, that's one view from the cheap seats.

    • @MisterChibs
      @MisterChibs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your experience Dylan. Haven't tried Plex but if it works for you, that's what's important. Roon isn't cheap but now that I have it, there's no going back. I've spent more on audio equipment that's collecting dust. Roon will most likely (and hopefully) outlast my current audio components. The cool thing is that unlike said components, it'll keep improving over time. 🍻

    Right from the start, I knew I should try Roon only until I tried the other platforms, such as Amarra, AUDIRVĀNA or HQPlayer by Signalyst. Considered, but didn't spend too much time with JRiver because I didn't need a multimedia platform. After using each to their free trial limits, I proceeded with Roon. After 2 or 3 days with Roon, it was really a "no-brainer." Why anything else? It also became clear that the Life membership was the best choice. I think Roon has proved their commitment to the user community with excellent online services, continual updates and fixes, new improvements and features like the 1.7 Valance and the recent addition of ARC. AUDIRVĀNA sounds very good too, or HQPlayer with suitable filters can transform the performance, but Roon is just so much more. 🤩🤩🤩

    Roon have been around for so many time now but for me it was always very pricy. Now with the monthly sub I am thinking well maybe I should try it. Its funny...I have used tidal with the MQA files(havent used Qobuz) but I always felt like I am playing the same known to me music and thats it. In the end I was spending so much more time in Spotify just because its so much easier to pick a given list based for example on a mood and thats it you enjoy so much not know to you music. I have always been into hi-res but funny enough i ended with Spotify because of the experience. Now listening to the review and the fact that with Roon I might have that experience but together with the better quality sound it really makes me think... Does it make sense if i dont have so much music on hard drive? Is it worth it if I only use it for tidal or Qobuz with the idea to improve their user experience? If I use it just for music from streaming services do I need the core(PC) running all the time or I just play the app on the phone and push the music to the roon ready device? Does this tv magic work with a modern LG oled? i do like to have the album cover on the screen...Thanks in advance.. it was very well build video!

    • @MisterChibs
      @MisterChibs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man. To answer your questions:
      1) I don't have any downloaded music. I just use Roon in conjunction with Qobuz. So in my opinion, it's definitely worth it.
      2) Yes, you still need a core, even if you're just streaming like me. It needs to stay on all the time.
      3) I'm not sure if it will work with your LG, does it run Chrome OS? If not, you can get a Google TV dongle with Chromecast and it should work through that.
      You can get a free Roon trial and see if it works for you. By day 2 of my trial, I knew I wanted to keep it. Now I can't imagine being without Roon, so I bought a lifetime membership. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

      I use Raspberry Pi as a Roon endpoint and really like it but I’m a tinkerer so the setup while not terribly hard, can be intimidating. My key learning is to have Roon upsample the CD-quality stream to DSD512. This made a significant improvement to sound quality on my inexpensive delta sigma DAC. I’m guessing this is because it pushes all the heavy lifting to the PC and bypasses the less capable delta sigma modulation in the chip. Not sure but it definitely improved the soundstage depth and layering over standard PCM.

    I've spoken to Bluesound extensively about the Roon + USB out issue. It's a software problem in the Node itself, and although the support team is aware of it and they hope to fix it in a future software update, there's no timeline for when that will happen. I was a week past the 30 day return policy by the time I figured this problem out and they refuse to give me a refund. I think it's pretty bad that they advertise that it's Roon Ready and supports USB out when those features don't actually work together (and a Bluesound rep confirmed to me that they do work together before purchase). The Bluesound Node is used as a streamer / Roon endpoint. The DAC decodes what the streamer sends it and converts that to analogue for the amp. Check out my Bluesound Node review. 🍻

    I learned of that problem a couple of months ago. You’re right, just use coax. Now that you have Qobuz with BluOS you are probably aware you can’t organise your albums in artist order, only in last added order. That’s an issue that BluOS blame on Qobuz and Qobuz blame on BluOS. It’s not going to change. Qobuz are set to introduce Qobuz Connect next year, that will be a work around and may also possibly allow artist order to become available within the actual BluOS app.
    I still have issues with the lack of albums I search for on Qobuz, I added all 700 of my albums from Apple Music to my Tidal and only missed about 15. With Qobuz it was about 120. That’s unacceptable to me. Sound quality, Tidal is better on lots of albums but Qobuz was better on some. Overall it was a wash.
    I don’t use a computer so Roon is not a thing. But I would still stick with the Bluesound node, it’s simple and it works.

      I actually used the forum to get ARC up and running. I couldn’t figure out what was going on and was about to dismiss ARC altogether but figured I’de give it a try. Someone replied almost right away and then someone else. We went back and forth and ended up narrowing my problem to the main modem’s NAT needing a port to be open for Roon as well as my separate wireless router. Something I had no clue about. Before you give up, I suggest giving the help forum a try. A lot of patient nerds willing help over there! Let me know how you do and what you think of Roon should you get it up and running. @Mr Chibs Just as I was about to call it quits, someone reached out to me and suggested that I check to make sure both Roon and Qobuz were allowed to bypass the Windows firewall on my PC, which they were not. I corrected that issue, although it didn't immediately solve the problem since I have a third-party firewall installed. It was an intuitive fix though and I was up and running pretty quickly after that. Now that it's all said and done it's a little embarrassing that it took 7 plus hours and the advice of a stranger to figure it out, but it is what it is I suppose. Nonetheless, I'm just a few hours into exploring Roon and love it so far. I'm looking forward to seeing how it unfolds as I put more hours into it. BTW, love your Cornwalls!
