Philippines history was they there? History:Yes Because' Binondo in Manila celebrated on February 1 its 430th year making it as the oldest Chinatown in the world. Binondo has served as the center of Chinese commerce and migration in the Philippines for over four centuries. It is the oldest Chinatown in the world, established in 1594 by the Spaniards as a settlement near Intramuros but across the Pasig River for Catholic Chinese; it was positioned so that the colonial administration could keep a close eye on their migrant subjects. Spain established its first permanent settlement in the Philippines in 1565. Spanish colonial control of the Philippines continued until 1898, when the United States took possession of the islands as a territory after winning the Spanish-American War. The Philippine Revolution, a struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule, had been ongoing since 1896, and news that the US would replace Spain as colonial overlord was unwelcome to many Filipinos. The First Philippine Republic declared independence and established a constitutional government in 1899, which American military officials viewed as an act of insurrection. Later that year, the Philippine-American War broke out as the Republic declared war on the United States. By 1902, when the U.S. Congress passed legislation creating the Philippine Assembly, hundreds of thousands of Filipinos had been killed or died of famine or disease as a result of the brutal war. World War ll When Japanese invasions happens the objective of the strikes at Pearl Harbor and the Philippines was to shield Japan's drive southward to seize the oil and natural resources of Southeast Asia and the Dutch East Indies. The strategy was to clear the US forces in the Philippines out of the way. While a series of U.S. federal laws gradually increased the amount of legislative authority Filipinos had in their own country, the Philippines was initially administered by an American Governor General and appointed American members of the Philippine Commission as the U.S. military continued to pacify indigenous populations throughout the islands. Though Japan took control of the Philippines during World War II, it returned to U.S. control after the war. In 1946, the U.S. and the Philippines signed the Treaty of Manila, whereupon the United States recognized the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of the Philippines. The Treaty contained a provision that allowed the U.S. to retain existing military bases and assets, which the U.S. continues to actively use. The Japanese occupation of the Philippines occurred between 1942 and 1945 during WWII. Filipinos staged guerrilla resistance against the Japanese until 1945. The Philippines was liberated from Japanese control by Allied forces in 1944. The Philippines was granted full independence by the United States in 1946.

Thank you for emphasizing that much of the “Manila” galleon was about trade with **China** . Many filipinos blow things out of proportion to put themselves and Philippines in the spotlight. It was more about China and India, and in reality the Philippines was but **one** area with Spanish rule in Asia. They always say they’re the “only” one. Not true at all. The Marianas, Guam, Carolinas, and ports in other Asian countries were all considered the East Indies.

I wasn't really raised in a household that used lots of peppery foods, and was shocked as a middle-schooler when I had dinner at a friend's house, only to find they had put dried chili flakes into their mashed potatoes. That experience taught me at a young age that different people eat different things based on where they grew up, what cultures they were exposed to, and what foods were most commonly available to them. (I grew up near Seattle, Washington, while they grew up near Modesto, California; I was therefore exposed to a lot more Asian cuisine locally, while they were exposed to a lot more Mexican when they lived down there, based purely on regional immigration patterns.) Unfortunately, just as I was starting to enjoy hot and spicy foods in my college years, however...I had to have my gallbladder removed, and that severely reduced how much capsaicin my body could tolerate. Which sucked. And still sucks, despite it being decades later. But I have discovered a mild chili pepper that I enjoy, which is the poblano. Not too much heat to trigger acid reflux, but also quite a lot of actual flavor besides the heat.

There are Spanish Crown records which speak of the navigational routes which were discovered by the “Mexicanos” in the 1560’s.
