I finally got everything together and am able to move the car under it's own power. Only issue is, I have some exhaust and boost leaks I need to address. The car is only able to make around 4 psi but, after some investigating I found some major leaks in our hot side vbands. I tried smoothing out the surfaces and using copper RTV but didn't have any luck. I did find some 2.5" and 3" vband gasket...

Today I wanted to get all of the boost lines, bov, and GFB Boost Controller all finished. The turbo manifold is finally done, the only thing left after today is to run the turbo feed/return, get the boost pipe figured out, and get the downpipe made! It's been freezing here the last few weeks and I don't have adequate heating in my shop. I keep having to wait for warmer days to work out in the shop and those are few and far between. Most of the N20 Turbo parts finally show up! Still waiting on the actual turbo but I can at least get a few things mocked up for now. Finally putting a tune on the 328i 2.0L N20 build. It's not what I expected but I am 99% sure my turbo is on it's way out, hence the crazy turbo lag. It seems really slow up top and takes some time to build boost. I noticed when putting everything back together the turbine was a little stiff and the actuator was really loose. New turbo and fueling coming soon hopefully.

Ive been following your build verbatim for mine, do you think its worth it to go for the big single or should i go with a hybrid turbo like a shuenk or TTE400 for ease of use?
Yo, the hybrid one would be super easy to swap, otherwise you have to build a manifold
@projectrandomCO thanks, looking forward to seeing your manifold work. Might give me some better ideas to go for a too mount. N20s get no love. Hopefully BM3 gives us CustomROM, I can't imagine what your spool would be on your turbo without anti lag
Did you ever change the downpipe to 2 inches?
Yo, this is replacing the whole setup, the up pipe to the turbo was 2.5" now I'll have 1.25 for each cyllinder going to the collector/T4 flange

I was thinking something, you can also plug the injectors and run a port injection with another stand alone ecu like fueltech
That seems like overkill haha but I am sure it's possible. Maybe if I ever get a fully billet block and really want to go full race car. I think I'll get a different platform for that though.
@@projectrandomCO got that thinking after seeing a video of somebody installing fueltech ecu on a n54 and running a plug ( injector delete) and new injectors on the port intejction by the intake

No guarantees but hopefully I can have it all back together soon, I am building a new manifold for the turbo right now. I have the first half filmed, just need to get it out.

Maybe, lol those are expensive. I have the manifold off and all cut up right now so I can rebuild it. Once I get it back together I will definitely get some footage.
I've got my tuner account set up and access to the map editor. Being in IT for the last 25 years, i at least have an appreciation for how much i don't know about tuning given how many databases are in this configuration, and how many relations i see when clicking to see dependencies. I appreciate this video - i do want to get to a point where i can flash my own tune...
There are a ton of tables but most of them aren't used. Really, you just need the fuel and air to start then you can start working on ignition timing. Flashing is pretty easy, you can do it from the custom tune screen. With the N20 there aren't custom roms but if you jave a newer car you can live tune through the tuning editor. Let me know if you have any questions, not a pro but I'll help where I can!
The reason your stoich value is 14.1 instead of 14.7 is because they are designing cars to run on E10 now. Also, the reason that E85 or its variants require more fuel is not because of octane, but the fact that the energy density of the fuel itself is lower than gasoline.

makes me want to grenade a 320i just to see the potential...keep us updated on your big turbo numbers (boost, afr, and power its putting down), dyno soon?
I probably won't dyno right away but I will def post as much info as I can when everything is 100% I want to shoot for 22-25 psi, maybe more on the top end to keep the trans safe for now until I can get that upgraded.
@@projectrandomCO what's the max the trans can handle?
I wouldn't go over 350-400 ft lbs of torque on the stock auto. If you bring the power in later in the rpm range you can put alot more power down. Less stress on everything since it's already moving. There are a handful of transmission companies that build billet internals for the zf45hp from 800-1500hp.

You should try and get a cheap f30 bmw 330i with the b48 and try and do the same because there's only one video out on someone building that motor and its on a 330e and Nvardi makes a kit for b48 just not sure where to find the head torque specs. ALso the b48/46 is closed decking so it might be easier to work on and big boost also makes a turbo for it i think you would just have to fab up some mounting brackets like you did with the one here. Looks good and wish you all good luck with your build!
If you do end up doing this I would get an aftermarket oil filter housing they're nutorious for going out between 60-90k miles and im dealing with one on my car and its not a cheap fix. $2200 from the dealership and most of that is labor becuase you have to take off the intake manfold and i believe fcp euro makes a metal one you can get for like $400 and it will save you all the hassle from having to replace it later on. But BMW did later reinforce it with more plastic where it would usually crack on the g20 chasis.

What’s the reliability on these things? What made you choose this platform to build? (no shade, I’ve just never owned a BMW without a straight 6)
Hey, stock the pistons are weak but the crank is forged and the head is good. I bought this with a blown motor for a really good price, never owned a BMW before this. With the block built I can safely daily 600hp but the transmission is weak so that will need an upgrade at some point. I do want a 135 to build sometime but need to finish this one. I have the whole thing together I just need to rebuild the turbo manifold and finish my tune.
@@projectrandomCO Thanks for the reply, I’m not really mechanically inclined like that…lol I’m driving a full bolt on N55. With a tune 417/512 to the wheels on an E85 blend. But it’s a Lego set, I’m not doing any real work…I bolted some shit on, catless DP straight pipe and bm3 Stage 2+…the fact that people have skills to just take their shit apart and build it is wild to me, that shit is sorcery. 😂 Good luck man, I’m invested in your build now…lol I wanna see this shit succeed! 🤙🏾

N20/26/B48 are not bad motor people just prefer the iconic I6 motor. Don’t let these people fool you. This motor have potential. 🔥🔥 because of you people will start making 800hp n20/26 🔥🔥
BMW N20 G-600 ENGINE rated for 600hp comes built it will run you about 8k from ghassan
good update, for the smaller original oe turbo stage 2 is what 19psi or something as a limiter, i think if bm3 did a custom tune for you, they could allow you to push that up at your own risk of course. when i watch other tuners with 2.0L and larger turbos they take to the moon 40-80psi max boost on a dyno. Even the oe turbo at say 38psi would likely show impressive gains, especially with larger injectors
I have the larger injectors and pump but I really think I need to get the turbo manifold set up right. From some research, the 2.5" is even overkill for some LS application's so I definitely want to shrink that down. I really want to try and build a proper manifold, would make for some good content too!

@avgfinnishdude Bader built racing guy takes stock subaru engine to something near 80 psi over 1000hp on a larger turbo you can build the boost pressure with a semi built engine like he has here

I haven't had a ton of time or funds but since things are slowing down I should be able to get working on it. I think I am going to start with building a proper manifold. I already have the dimensions on where it needs to sit with the one I have, just have to all the material!
@@projectrandomCO totally understandable man the car life is expensive especially when doing a complete built from your home take your time she’ll rip soon enough. Also me personally I’d try a 2 inch inlet for the turbo to build boost but hey it’s up to you looks good so far!
I was thinking 2" as well since that's what my subaru was. I really want to build a proper manifold now that I have the welder all set up. It won't be pretty but I think I can do it.

Yo, 400 reliably would be easy with a bolt on turbo and some upgraded internals with supporting mods (intake, exhaust, downpipe, intercooler)
Pro tip - get the red push start button. Automatic +50hp

So far it's been great, only issue I had was buying a cheap wastegage off ebay. I have been fighting with it for about a month. I finally spent the money and ordered a TIAL, should be here in a few days, hopefully I'll have an update video soon. I also got BM3 to add the EWG delete drop down on the N20 tune. I''ll def post a video about that soon.

Haha, maybe. I am not a fabricator but I could definitely try and start making some real kits. I am sure they would sell pretty well, seems like a lot of people want to go down the same path.

Hey! I put an update on the community page but plans changed again so I am staying in Colorado. I have been prepping to move the last month and had a last minute change. Back to the car content soon. I have been working with BM3 to make some changes to the ROM to allow for the EWG delete and some other things. They said everything should be live so I am just waiting for my ROM to be updated now. I have my own tune built I did myself so I will try and go through that step by step soon to give you all an idea on how to tune your own car. It's actually pretty easy!

Yo! Going great, I have been working with BM3 behind the scenes to get the ROM updated for the N20 to allow an external wastegate with a bigger turbo! I just heard back this morning that they added it. I have my own custom tune I built but still chasing some hardware issues. I'll put out an update video soon!

Hey, not sure what you mean. Everything was replaced and upgraded to the laser etched gears to hold it in time under a higher load.

Where do you work as your day job ? Random question but assuming you work somewhere where youre teching on cars
I was a helicopter mechanic in the Army then worked my way up in corporate tech for years. I was working at a mechanic shop on the side for a few months just to stay busy but quit a while back and now I am just hanging out. Moving to PA in a few weeks though so the content slowed down a bit until I can get settled.
