Tuning my custom built F30 328i N20!

- Finally putting a tune on the 328i 2.0L N20 build. It's not what I expected but I am 99% sure my turbo is on it's way out, hence the crazy turbo lag. It seems really slow up top and takes some time to build boost. I noticed when putting everything back together the turbine was a little stiff and the actuator was really loose.
New turbo and fueling coming soon hopefully.
The N20 has great potential just treat her right and keep it maintained and it will be a beast for its platform.
hell yeah
I don’t know what part of CO you are in… but i gotta check this out. Hope to catch you at slush or NW.
I'm down in colorado springs but moving to PA in about a week
@@projectrandomCO lame… well man i’m going to keep up on the progress and best to you for the future!
Haha thanks.
Also put the transmission in sport it makes a lil different 🤏🏾
the throttle response setting is critical here, youll want to make sure its not sensitive at all, make sure its set to 0, i know you set it to oem and i know its not set to 0
I'm not on an OTS map anymore, I have a full custom build, that was just OTS settings, not a big deal man!
@projectrandomCO yeah I know I'm following your content...would like to see that n20 prove a lot of people wrong...just put that here in case others see it and are staying on stock turbo
Get the catless dp if you were in Florida I could’ve helped
To be honest I am not sure what is in there for a DP, it might be stock? The exhaust is full straight piped from the downpipe back though. The exhaust sounds nasty when I get on it, really screams for a 4cyl.
@@projectrandomCO sorry dp meant downpipe and you already got it you lit
Get a gfb diverter valve boost response gonna be quick
The diverter valve is only for a stock turbo, going big turbo!
With my experience with those cars, because of the cylinder head you ain’t gonna push much power out of it. But you can get a pure turbo set up and meth injection down pipe and a intercooler with custom too you should be able too push maybe 450 wheel and about 550 torque. More then that the transmission wouldn’t be able too handle it
I have a transmission lined up, there are several companies that make billet internals for the 45, as for the the head I'm going to see what I can push stock then get some bigger valves, i know there are a few options for lighter valves and stronger springs for a higher rev. Eventually ill see what cam options there are. If you have anything in mind let me know! I am thinking 500 is a good starting point before I need the Trans and head work
@@projectrandomCO it’s worth the shot I’m currently work on my motor I spun a bearing on cylinder one. But I look forward too seeing how far you get with this platform power wise
a pure stage 2 turbo for the n20 doesn't make more than 360whp on full e85....
@@Sqwin_n20 there is a mossleman pure stage 2 380-500hp 35psi capable. But doesn't seem very efficient at 35 psi and only 500 hp. I am going full custom big turbo from Aeroflow Performance. They have a new line of boosted turbos that are 9 blade twin scrolls capable of 900hp for a 2.0 engine. I'd like to try and make everything as efficient as possible with low psi high hp. 😅
@@projectrandomCO No it's not LOL. Not for n20. you are thinking n55. the n55 turbo is not the same size or upgrade as the n20. you can check my channel, i have the highest power n20 on hybrid turbo record. TTE400 as of today (12/2/23) makes the most power for a bolt on hybrid turbo. custom setups will be different.
A TO04 turbo does not have the physics capable to flow 500 hp lol.
I just bought a 2015 328i msport and about to go down this rabit hole, have you taken it through any twisty roads where top speed isnt that big of a deal? If so, how did it feel?Just curios because thats more my cup of tea.
Thanks in advance, i subscribed and will definitely be tuning in for more content.
Hey, I live in Colorado and drive through the mountains a lot, twisty roads and stuff, but I've never tracked the car. I beat the hell out of it before I pulled it apart again and never had any issues with oil or anything.
@@projectrandomCO cool, I was actually gonna do the oil pan mod first because of starvation fears, so that's good to hear. I just wanted a fun daily driver while my rx7 is down for upgrades and various other things.
Will probably go for FOB and bm3 and stop there.
Dang man you should have waited and got a new turbo when you were putting the engine together. I replaced my turbo last month and it was quite...quite the experience. Great build though, its great seeing someone try to maximize the n20's potential. It has insane torque so if you want your best 0-100 times just short shift it and the turbo will stay spooled down low.
I am going full custom, but yeah it is a little tight down there but definitely doable! Did you go with a stock turbo or did you get something a little bigger? I see some of the new bolt ons advertise 35 psi and 500hp. I feel like that is a stretch though.
I went stock turbo because it was cheap, if anything you can get a turbine core that supports better airflow for around $200. @@projectrandomCO
Tell me you weren’t mad when you did the pull and found out it was the same map 😤 I could see the disappointment in your eyes, I would’ve been so pissed !
Also who built the engine, ‘closed’ the deck, I’m either looking into doing that depending on money or just going to the n55 or b58 just don’t wanna throw money out ya know
Haha, that is exactly what happened... I am really tuning it now with the big turbo and stuff so hopefully I won't be disappointed this time lol.
I did it all myself, I have a write up on the website on how I did it. Projectrandom.com
It’s great to see people working on the N20 and not just going up to a bigger engine !!
Ok cool I’ll check it out !
catless dp or just muff and res delete
Kinda late😅 but lets go !
also do you have an intake installed
Intake doesn't do much for these except make the turbo a little louder. Once I get the bigger turbo I'll look into getting one to make sure I don't have any bottlenecks on the intake side. I also saw that some of the plastic intake manifolds are cracking around 500hp so at some point I will probably have to get a custom one made. I'm pretty sure my turbo is smoked, it doesn't free spin with my fingers and I have quite a bit of lag off the line.
