Robs Alba Radiogram (4K)
Video Diary about trying to get this early 70's radiogram in functional order. Not in the best condition, but as a family air-loom, try my best. Another piece of Rob's collection, as I previously worked on his grundig radio. Filmed over nearly 2 years, this one had to be done when time allowed. Warning: Working on mains/Line powered equipment is hazardous.

ICOM IC R7000 VHF/UHF Receiver Repair (4K)

Video Diary of working on this classic receiver from the 90's A colleague had a number of receivers from her fathers estate. I was surprised at the difficulty of obtaining components for a modern re...

Codar Mini Clipper Receiver Kit 1976 V2 (4K)

A quick look at a Codar Mini-Clipper. This one is from 1976 and employs a FET and two transistors. A typical TRF regenerative circuit is used. A more modern style kit from Codar and was new in 1976 to replace the previous design that used a valve for the RF stage. I found it a little lacking in sensitivity for loudspeaker use and the small control knobs with no reduction make tuning difficult, ...

What's inside a modern basic radio & is it any good? (4K)

Even though I look at vintage stuff mostly on this channel, I've wanted to look inside a cheap modern radio for some time. This one was just £13. It wasn't easily overloaded being a SDR and there isn't many digital artefacts. Music from youtu...

I think you will be able to get quite a good output eventually. I used the machine as an amp for meeting in a school hall through a couple of columns.. I had to use it in the record position with the rec. and stop buttons down. This was because there was a very heavy bass boost present if just left with function off. Maybe because of EQ needed for the tape heads being present. Also, so current not being fed to the motors. But a very faithful machine.

Those roof-tops you can see in the first 2 minutes ... We got very pissed one night, so when we came out of Rizzy's (Monday night - drinks 50p) we climbed up the fire escape at the back of Sainsburys and climbed across the roofs as a 'short cut' - except the drop back down at the corner (Swifts ?) was too high so we had to go all the way back. Looking at that pitched roof above what was the co-op - I'm not sure how we made it ... ah, those were the days.

Do you know the size of the rubber belts on this one? And was it just unscrew the voltage switch? I see there are two screws on the switch - one on the top and one on the bottom. Will it make it removable so that I can accsess the cassette mechanism?

It uses standard 1/4 inch tape and up to 7 inch reels. You can buy this new and various online market places that will have second hand tape. Some old tape may not be very good and will shred it's particles on the heads, but other tapes hold up well. Daz.

You built it so I'm sure you know, but I thought the white diode visible from the horn would be the mixer diode. The iris from the Gunn cavity appears to be further in. I've been a ham for over 40-years and a couple of times wanted to fiddle with 10ghz but found that the components are scarce as chicken's teeth with prices past the Moon. So, I never did.
