As usual a very enjoyable video. I seem to remember my father messing around for hours with one of those wave change switches. No Internet in those days.
Wavechange switches do make me nervous in radios. Lots of wires and delicate switches in inaccessible places. Glad you enjoyed the video and I hope to finish a few more items in the future. Daz
Nice to hear Radio Caroline on a medium wave radio. Here in New Zealand it's internet only job. Nice and good fidelity but kidda miss the crackles, hiss and of course the government jamming. Or was that RNI??
Oh yes, Michael. Your right, lucky to have AM still. I have the PI internet radio, but sounds too clear! I have memories of hearing music for the first time with fading and distortion caused by atmospheric reflections. Autobarn, Kraftwork is one I remember sounding interesting. When I got the record it didn't sound right! Transistor radio under the pillow as a kid. Also hear old music on the radio and can remember the slight wow and flutter in my records with warps and out of centre stampings. PS I've blown tweeters up in the past too! Lucky they were local in Ipswich then! Thanks for watching, Daz
@@darrencoe5795 I remember listening to Caroline on 199 enjoying a song then go to the local shop to buy the disc. When you get home and play it on the HiFi, sounds completely different! Way to much treble. It was amazing that limiting the bandwidth to 4khz, adding lots of distortion and almost 100% compression should sound so good. All blasting out of a 500mW amplifier into a 3 inch speaker in a plastic box at maximum volume and a always very flat battery. Ahhhh I miss those days!!
Smashing repair :-D It's worth a bit of swearing and tea drinking to fix it's problems lol. I also thought about the crap-a-citors, but i was wrong lol. That slide switch was a bit brutal, i thought about the thin clear windows in cake boxes and such. Sissors and some gallery music from take heart would help you to make a "U" cover to stop the parts escaping. If that's the sort of thing you think it needs. Ha ha you know exactly what you are doing, but i had a chuckle :-D
I think I understand why there was a wax seal on the back of radio! Odd no cover too. Yes, Tony would know had to knock up a cover and a good idea too and a bit of plasticine to hold it place he he. I used to love Morph! I need to be a bit less robotic in my videos sometimes, and a laugh is good! Thanks for watching, Daz
@@darrencoe5795 Morph would say ' Ba-la-laaa' (He is drunk) :-D You can relax when making a video. We don't actually exist until you upload it lol. Thank you for the video, i would never have seen one of those radios before.
My peak atlas esr started giving false high esr even on known good caps. I already ruled out poor connections. I think something gone wrong with its internal pcb board.
I've just checked mine out. It appears ok, but the 2mm pins needed a clean to be able to compensate the probes accurately using the built in compensation . A low ESR cap came in at 0.02R. I'll keep a eye on it, thanks, Daz

Thanks Darren, great to see this unusual set brought back to life. Really interesting Russian details.
Yes, its interesting to see different components in the radio. Feels a nice quality built radio made to last. Thanks for watching, Daz

Well done 😀
Just sent off for one of thease.
Have a number of Russian Soviet radios all work well and seem well made contrary to what one would think.
Indeed, I agree. I have a couple more too work on in the future. Daz
This radio made in Riga. It has the name Selga in USSR. And good reputation.

I'll try to remember that 'We don't actually exist until you upload it lol' He He made me chuckle. Do prefer the viewfinder end of camera! Daz
