Good morning Darren. I think you did very well to get this radio working. Not one for the beginner I feel. Nice one. Terry

Hi Daren. Well you did well to sort that one out. I have had a go at the me/fm versions of that set but failed to get it going. Well perhaps another time. Thanks for the video and look forward to the next. Derrick.

These radio kits are often built in schools in China, as a whole class activity. Where they'll buy them in bulk, along with a few extras, in case of duff or missing parts from the kits. I am actually in China myself, and have successfully built a few of these. This particular ZX623 kit sells here for less than the equivalent of 3 euro.

acquiring a similar model on aliexpress in the ad this zx05 am/fm kit but to my surprise zx623 am/fm arrived, i am a layman in electronics i learned only the basics to maintain my radios, i am assembling the zx623 your video is helping me a lot, mainly in the variable capacitor and variable coils, I don't have signal adjustment instruments, you'll have to use it in your ear, I think it will only pick up local radio stations, one question, can I adjust the tunings only with the osiloscope? Thank you for sharing the video hugs from BRAZIL

A multimeter on AC volts is good enough to judge the sound level from a speaker when peaking.

Dinky little kit there. Not a fan really of radio on a chip stuff but it works!

Hi Daren, Great video, I just got my kit from Aliexpress it all looks complete. I'm just getting interested in Ham radio so I bought this unlike you as a short wave receiver kit. So can't wait to get stuck in. I also received at the same time two aliexpress fm walky talkies (NT-QQ08), but no english instructions. Ever tried this one? It has plenty of smd's to play with. I don't think they are legal to transmit in the uk but maybe can be hacked into something that is. Ham radio band anyway. They say the range is only 50 meters anyway. I havn't got my licence yet I'm still practicing my morse for qrm. I built lots of kit radios in the past I've just done two pixies. Both work ok on dummy load. Kindest regards and 73's Phill W

Good luck with building the kit, Phill. I did find a picture on the walkie talkie. Looks like a FM radio with PLL with digital display and low power FM sender IC with transistor preamp to a microphone. Low power FM sender's are permitted in UK, though should be technically approved. Good luck with getting radio license, it's not too hard and gives you scope to experiment. Daz

@@darrencoe5795 Hi Daz, Thanks for that. I have assembled all the parts on the board. All present and ready to solder up. I have ordered from aliexpress two other versions of the same case radio kit zx619 the mw only version plus the zx260 am/fm version. All of them seem to be still available. Did you get you am/fm version in the end? I had to check back to your vid to find out which way to install the tuning gang. Like you say the instructions for these kits are a bit of a challenge, but cheap enough to have fun with. I still don't understand how they get sw and fm using the same board? Time will tell. I also orders another couple of walky talkies from aliexpress (FM radio Wireless walkie-talkie two-way radio Walkie-talkie radio Electronic production kit DIY training) x2, and (Half duplex intercom intercom kit DIY training kit production of electronic parts) x 2 aswell. I just love making them up to see if they work. I probably might get them before xmas, but I've got these others to do anyway. I did find an eastern europian guy's vid on utube on thes walky talkes, but it wasnt much help. Unlike your own vids which are fantastic. Ive only had one that failed to work on fm. Not from aliexpress it was year ago. A CIC - 027a kit. A bit rare now they have not been made for years (shame) I stripped it and rebuilt it then nothing worked. I stripped it again and it's waiting to be rebuilt. I found an o/c second I.F. thats what stopped the am side. They fm side could have been just alignment. I tried to get another kit the same as it from sweden to compair the parts, but it never arrived. A scam I think. I got my money back anyway. I'll keep you updated on the am/sw radio. if I ever finish it. Always a job. Kindest regards. Phill W

Hi Daz, Just finished My sw/mw radio like your's, and whoopy doo it's a first time worker. I've just had a quick fiddle with the I.F.'s and oscillator coils. My favourite Gold radio is booming in. Sw works, but very quite on it's own telescopic aerial, but joined to my crystal set length of wire up the garden it bangs in. No propper alignment yet but it does what it says on the tin. Do you think changing the two 10 pf for 27pf ones like you did might help? The band seems very narrow too. I don't think it's meant to be world band anyway. The sound isn't tinny like a lot of radio's I've built either. My overall view is that It's all great for the price. Can't wait for the am/fm one to arrive now. Thanks for the help, and I'll keep you posted. Kindest regards and 73's Phill W 😀😀😀

You did really well to get that yellow cased kit working, very poor parts and instructions.
The fact that they didn't send the f.m version twice would have really pissed me off.
    It would have been returned.
    Very sloppy suppliers :-(

If you expect it's going to be crap, you wont be disappointed. Just once in a while you receive something that actually works and is what you ordered.

I was lucky in the first supplier did refund in the end and didn't ask for it back. Mind you with the faulty red core, just as well. Daz.

Cant help thinking some of the styling was based on old radios.

A word of caution: a LOT of kit vendors in the UK have quit selling them for overseas buyers, due to the increase in export fees after Brexit.

It seems brexit has affected alot of buying. Daz

Makes you wonder how many people buy this stuff with little or no knowledge, that fail to get these things working through no fault of there own, but due to faulty, wrong or missing parts, and just give up the hobby.

Yes it would a shame if someone was to give up, Michael. I wish I had someone to help when younger, a Elmer I think it's called. Hopefully this platform helps now. Thanks for watching, Daz.
