Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge...ty very much
Electical. Start to finish. Solar, recharge from battery-alternator. Power unit . Lights. Ect.
Glue and add veneers where mounts, traks ect. Are going. Remount 0 troubles.
I appreciate your content. Ive used your system in a 4 season trailer build i did . Excellent. For over night on ice, ice fishing large lakes. Thank you
Nice
This is AMAZING. I am binge-watching your build videos. Great job, man!!
Love it , a lot lighter than wood.
Yeah me too, a year ago,!?? Thanks for nothing TH-cam! I’ve thought about this a great deal and so glad someone had actually done this !
Wondering about VOCs????
You did a great job. smart
Amazon has contact paper that is like fabric. I might use that over the insulation
nice man , Im def going to use alot of this info with my skoolie build. what about rivet nuts for the ones that have some type of face, i guess it would depend on how think the face is.
Has anyone considered the dangers of toxicity from foam? There are many studies that show dangers to human health from the chemicals released by foam as they degrade or are exposed to elements such as heat...
Loving this process. Definitely using as much of your knowledge as possible. Can you show the electric system and explain it to a 5 year old?
Just a few minutes in and I'm already sitting here with a smile on my face, excellent use of the Dude quotes.
Made a sink cabinet from your first video on foam. Used poor man’s fiberglass on sides. Very strong. Thanks for all the details. My hope is to build a cargo trailer.
I appreciate your systematic approach.
As a disabled 59 year old grandma with three areas of spinal stenosis, four herniated discs, arthritis up and down the spine and after a laminectomy L4 and L5 slipped. The fear I have with losing ssdi, I have decided a popup patio walled will be reinforced with the pink foam board, t fence posts to reinforce the tent posts and center popup. Black wool insulation glued to pond liner and placed over the tent. The same done to the shower/ toilet tent attached. Cheap tent living that should be warm or cool. Lizardskin ceramic treating the pond liner and a treated car port over the tent for the support insulation of air in-between the two. Working 60 hours a week never gave me the American dream and its now so unattainable so the majority anymore because of the unfettered greed system of unfettered capitalism. Buy land and live in a tent. Push for zoning law changes since our government allowed the price gouging of the American people by corporate buying up all the homes.
I really like your style bro. It's clever and funny. And really satifies the engineer in me. Great experiments and data points! With the balance of "it doesn't need to be perfect". Looking forward to watching the rest of the build!
just as expected. f
San Antonio here even know this place existed. Ill be heading there soon. Thanks
This os great! Wish you were my neighbor😉
Make foam versions
Won't last...delamination is inevitable...
I've been watching almost every YT video I could find to build out a van in 2025. *TH-cam's algorithym TOOK A YEAR to send me YOURS!* You've done all the tedious data experiments, compiled the data, analyzed the results and edited your experience in an easily comprehensible and logically layed out format. If there was a YT award for best of the best, *YOUR CHANNEL would WIN!* Subscribed and am so much more confident that when I finally choose the right vehicle, I will be rewatching your videos, step by step, to make not just my build experience more efficient, cost effective, and aesthetically pleasing, but also to capitalize on the structural integrity to weight ratio. Bravo! The *BEST,* most in depth and important van build video on the subject I have ever seen! *GET ON THE BALL, YT, and PUT THIS VIDEO onto more feeds!!!*
Liked and subscribed. Great built!
Just seeing your series on this. Appreciate your insight. Will definitely use. Thank you.
The problems with XPS foam is the following. 1. Extremely flammable with high rate of burn when exposed to flame or high voltage spark. Heated wiring cannot ignite XPS just from the energy produced from hot wires but sparks can. 2. Toxic fumes (Vocs) produced while on fire will kill you, probably before the fire does. 3. Styrene, a chemical in XPS causes cancer, not maybe, not could be, it does cause cancer. 4. Dust that comes from XPS is an explosive material, this dust can get into areas of electronics, etc and go boom. 5. XPS causes condensation and mols when air gets into it. If you do not seal all areas around your foam, you will run into this nasty, harmful problem. 6. XPS foam deforms over temps of 80+ degrees. If you live in a high heat area, it deforms quicker and can cause air pockets to form, which collect condensation and mold. Over 10+ yrs your insulation will dramatically decrease and your structures can warp (depending on what materials you're using for framing and paneling for walls). 8. Foam is greatly lighter than wood and most materials but the trade off is not worth it. 9. State regulations can be risky. Many states do not permit XPS foam to be used as anything but insulation in any ADU (aux development unit (sheds/RV/tiny home/Vardo/campers) and if the ADU should ever be inspected and fail regulatory standards, the ADU can be ordered destroyed, you can be fined or it can be seized. So if you intend to build any type of ADU go to the county clerks office and find out your states regulatory requirements for ADU's. New Mexico is the only state I'm aware of that has no regulatory requirements for ADU's There are foams like Fighter fighter foam (not used for building) that are flame retardant foams but come at high cost.
1/8th inch = 3mm not 1mm. 3mm is the thinnest plywood you can (commonly) get
Both Kilz and Valspar sell a form of adhesive primer.
Pretty cool. My concern is probably unjustified, but it's the reason we don't use foam in house building or plastic wall fillers. Why not? Excess plastic exists, we could compress it to make strong, insulating building material, right? Well, what about fire? How does replacing wood with foam impact the survivability of waking up to find your house or vehicle is on fire? Negatively. Strongly negatively.
Do you talk about fuel mileage? That saves you on every mile you drive.
Absolutely great work. Wow, so thankful you did all of this. BRAVO!
And, I hope your R&D budget can handle it! You sure have saved us a lot of messes trial and error.
Thank you for the tests! That is very helpful! Question...Do any of these adhesives say to apply glue on both parts? I remember some required coating both surfaces and wait a certain amount of time before placing them together. That might help with the ones that expand with air exposure. I watched a guy put foam core garage door panels in his off-grid cabin build for in floor heating. He said most metal recycle folks won't mess with taking them apart for the metal. He used them one m r tal side down and only removing one side for his purpose. I wonder if the double metal clad pieces may be an alternative to foam boards? Would that be stronger? Anyways, thank you again. You are a great resource.
GOOD JOB👍
This is incredible! I have liked and subscribed. Thank you!
what hardness of foam?
Brilliant. Thank you.
Incredible. Amazing info. P.S TH-cam recommended me this. 👍 subscribed
Really interesting, but I don't know about the planning part for me. I'm really good at teaching myself things like how to calculate heat loss per unit surface area for a given temperature gradient, but geographic / spatial things may be difficult. I watched a video how to cut an onion- it was Gordon Ramsey- and I had to keep pausing, I'd go to positing the onion & my fingers and realize I was lost and couldn't recognize.....(no words) just had to keep looking at the video, what I was doing, the video, over & over again. Sometimes I think I'm almost better off not planning....I don't know if I'm lacking knowledge & it would become easier with training or I just have a spatial disability, I did score below average at assembling shapes to look like the ones in the drawings. Mostly due to time, I think I got them all eventually.
Valuable info buried beneath verbiage . . . consider format, narrative, and relating styles . . . You're worth it. (New Subscriber)
Great videos! Thanks for making.
Fantastic! I've got to spend a weekend watching these.
How is the VOC outgassing?
For people complaining about length of video I say what? How much useless tv or movies do you watch in your life? Plus I listen to you on double speed with no problem with absorption os keep it coming
You sir are a genius. Awesome job. I am planing to try building my first van out one day and I think I will do it your way after watching your video. Amazing and I hope you get lots of exposure. The brilliant ideas never get the exposure they deserve it seems.
Loved it every time I had a What about thought you were Johnny on the spot with your testing of materials and what not so did what I could for your algorithm by bumping the hell out of the thumbs up for you. Really informative information. ❤
Wow.......fabulous solution!! If push came to shove, you could have made new items out of foam board!!!
How did you attach the silver to your windows
