Guy rocked in with a Sprinter camper this week (I repair campers) - he'd a set of 4*4 tyres on it - 245/R16's - on the original merc rims that he'd painted black. He reckoned they were the dogs for outlasting any other tyre he'd tried, plus they looked cool as feck. Never seen a van with jeep tyres fitted, but man did it look cool. He swears by them - and I'm not gonna argue.
@@falkornomad Dunno -that guy is a full-time van-lifer, him & his missus live in it - they do big miles around europe every year, so the noise issue can't be that bad or they'd be whinging. Both are IT/tecchies & have the van done out to a very high spec - I doubt they'd be living with crazy road noise tbh. They have now fecked off to Spain in it & are bringing it back to me for a full respray in July. Kinda cool way to live tbh - they just bounce around Europe all year, going where they fancy. :-) Just the 2 of them & their dog - have WiFi, can work from anywhere.
Similar to us… only in US for the last 9 months full time and online work… it’s pretty nice, but as with everything has its challenges and downsides! Maybe Europe in a few years for us, we’ll see
@@falkornomad If you get across, drop in for tea - guy I used work with was a genius at material bonding - he educated me on what glue does what - we can bore each other about laminating materials onto structural foam. :-) We met doing a massive project in Belfast that was all glued structural foam. He opened my eyes to the power of sprayable contact adhesives.
I always recommend making room for a spare spare. That way when you get a flat you are not forced to immediately change plans and find a tire shop. By adding this "time padding" you can find a good tire (if needed) or a proper tire shop. Most shops now say sidewall punctures cannot be patched but some people have successfully done it, saving $$$. Finding good spare tires is possible but it often takes time. Love your channel.
I was 5 the first time I "helped" dad change a tire. Gave myself a black eye when I tried to spin the lug wrench like Daddy did. I have changed several over the years. However, now I call my husband. 😂
I've done a bunch of those plugs, never failed. Had a tire store that would do an inside patch for $5. Last time was years ago. Should never have to replace for a simple tread hole. I've never had a pressure indicator, kinda cool, but I hate that electronic break and cost ya stuff.
Totally agree, tire troubles suck. I keep a tire repair kit in the truck/van in case, as well as a battery powered pump. I've encountered a few mechanics, and noticed over the years through other people's videos, tire plugs should be fine to run on, especially when your puncture isn't in the sidewall. But having a full sized spare is never a bad thing - plus, super helpful when rotating tires - especially if you do it often to ensure even tire wear.
I have the pump & jump unit but not the plug kit… may get one but with these load rating E tires (10ply I think) and a 76psi inflation…. I’m not sure the battery pump would have the endurance to fill the whole thing and that a diy plug would last very long🤷🏽♂️ more testing needed I suppose.
Brother just found you and loving your content. Subscribed. I seen where you got that Baller thick ass mustache fron. Pops is the man. Don't know the man so speculation, I am usually on the money. What I will say is that I'm a 100% sure you were the replacement bassist for Skynyrd when the plane went down and your dad was the new bus driver. Pretty sure you bought that Mac with you record deal money. Just playing brother. All the love and keep up the good work.
I would have checked the plug before I put on the tire to make sure they did their job, no wonder why it was free to patch, but you did say it's only temp to get you to another shop to buy a tire. lol
I should use the foam in my tires!! Lol Finding this specific tire was hard so opted for a plug until I could get new tire delivered to shop ahead of us on the trip.
I legit had to learn from a youtube video ages ago. It wasnt as well done as this, but I've since looked at other things to get caught up on how its done.
Long live Dad.

Those tread patterns are usually loud on the highway, but they do look cool!!

Yeah I was surprised… it failed in like 2 miles… maybe the 70+ psi was part of the reason? Idk
@@falkornomad could affect it, I was always 35 or no more than 42

Don't forget to get your tire fixed or replaced. Always air up the spare when doing the tires on the vehicle.

don't forget to state the obvious lol
Lol, rusty nail winery. Fitting.

Oddly enough, that’s my stepdad technically, since I was 8… he put in the time so I give him the credit, but we do have similar staches! Lol
"A plug is not a long term fix" - HA!HA!HA! Wanna bet? I hate buying tires... ;-]

Oh so you didn't use the pink styrofoam board between layers for this area of the van huh?
