I think what you're doing is awesome. -it's great to experiment and even greater that you're sharing your successes and failures with us all :) From an Australian - Well done mate !!
I love the use of foam. I have upcoming projects I want to use 1 inch foam and use West System epoxy with 1708 fiberglass. (Truck bed decked drawer system, no wood, maybe some recycled plastic board at hinged/accessory areas)
There is a whole new build series coming… doing a whole Transit in foam, check out my last video Sneak Peek… will be lots more new foam techniques coming that I’ve worked out 👍🏽
Hey man! I know it's been a year since you posted this video so you'll probably never see this comment but I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate the builds that you've done with the foam. I'm in the planning stages of building a cab over camper for my pickup truck using nothing but foam wrapped in fiberglass on the exterior and plywood paneling on the interior. So thanks again, peace. David.
If you ever wanted to, you can do a total weigh in at an RV place. They have these weighing stations and can not only weigh your whole van, but they can also weigh each side and tell you how to proportion the weight better if needed. That's something we plan to do once we're done. Weight is so important and I'm starting to see new vandwellers using very heavy material.
Really enjoyed the videos. Gave me some great ideas and the finger joints are fantastic. Disregard the trolls with the degrading comments...They live under a rock...
Also, have to add in that in one of your previous videos, I did notice your van had the wheel on the opposite side. I had thought it was neat, but didn't want to point it out because it didn't seem significant at the time. Glad to know you find it interesting too, though.
Just now watching. Affixing cabinets to vehicle...since it’s so light, if you have the room to lift up 3 inches, how about metal French cleats (Amazon $15). French cleat hanger 10 inch. Saw it on another RVers channel. Maybe cut the male side smaller and put rivets in the female side as stops so it won’t slide if you have to slam on the brakes.
With your build you should wear a suit tie NOT be you your carpentry on the foam are great. like the hot knife Is this your first time working with foam?
Also it doesn't matter since you got the stainless for free, but a smooth aluminum countertop would look fairly similar, would be more than durable enough, and would save a little bit of weight assuming you matched the thickness.
AHHHH!!!...I hope the USA goes to metric one day. I mean, I know it won't happen in a day but now would be a good time to start. From oz. Not Ounces but OZZY land Australia.
You can use epoxy resin over xps foam. It won’t melt it. I imagine it would be stronger than gripper. It’s also self leveling, so it would get rid of the screen pattern
i laugh so many were crapping all over this idea , .. i guess most dont realize the has been a boat building industry standard for hulls , etc for years .. and xps foam just gets better and better ./// the only difference is they skin it with laminating fiberglass eg 8 - 10 oz epoxy glass , or another eg , surf boards .// etc . you can build an entire boat , shed , camper by using foam composite core
I DID notice the steering wheel being on the right side, but I assumed you had flipped the image for some reason. For what reason in particular, I had no clue. But, if that is what you had done, it would mean that you are wearing your wedding ring on the wrong hand. So... Either you don't know your right from your left or you have a British van. Who am I to judge?
Like what? 1/2” and 1/4” XPS would work and be lighter than the 1” I used. It’s a strength vs lightness vs material cost vs build labor equation for me. I’m open to other ideas for sure!!

Omg I was dead after you answered so many with such serious sarcasm. You’re a real role model keep living your life

Why XPS? Why not something lighter?
