    These videos are really good and helpful! My husband and I just weighed our self converted van built with plywood, and it was overweight. So we are going to tear it apart and start over with lighter materials. Meaning we just wasted a year of our lives. After seeing this we will use this technique for some of the futniture! Thank you kind sir.

    That test on foam was pretty close to what you get with wood, wood may have an ember(which is worse than the foam), but it takes some very specific conditions to actually sustain a fire.

I ride a recumbent ent trike and have been wanting to build a bike camper for a while. I am now looking at the foam as a great option for this. It is because of your videos that I got this inspiration.

    I've been watching a lot of your videos - they're informative and entertaining; plus you've spent a lot of time creating and editing them. I would guess that the majority of people giving thumbs down and/or negative comments are simply critics; they don't do anything themselves but find it easy to dismiss or be negative ... just like movie & book critics that have never directed or written anything themselves. Keep up the great videos and positive attitude! :-)

    I thought foam cabinets was a genius idea. I dream of escaping my current life in my future van build, but driving around a van with all the extra gas guzzling weight that the usual cabinetry represents seems ludicrous. Thank you so much for your unique gas saving ideas, plus thumbs up to goats, roosters and cello, Adam from Canada, where we don’t generally use “arse” definitely more UK.

    Completely agree with your share concerning supporting experimentation. I've watched mega tons of TH-cam videos to learn new things and ideas. Some are just as you say, people bravely sharing outright failures to show what not to do. I appreciate them all, especially the effort that goes into making and sharing their ideas. Are there fraudsters and pranksters on TH-cam - absolutely, but usually they are not that hard to spot. Even then I don't hate on them I just don't do anything to improve their viewership.
    BTW, you are on to some good and helpful stuff. Keep it up! 👍

    Saw a more recent video and was wondering how long you've been living with the foam cabinets, now I know it's been at least 5 yrs. I was thinking of using extruded aluminum to build some shelves for my van, but the lower cost, lower weight, surprising strength, and ease of building with XPS foam you have demonstrated has me considering it as building material now. Thank you.
    I had previously built a unit with plywood, but the sealant I used on it went bad and it still stinks when it gets hot after two years, so need to replace.

    • @falkornomad
      @falkornomad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 5 year old cabinet was a prototype and still holds up, but is not in the van we are full time in now.
      We have 9 months, 42 state and 30k miles on the Transit full time… and counting. No issues other than the screw anchor failure that I covered… I realized since that that drawer failure was the push to open slide failing and the drawer flew open while we were on a rough road and I think that’s what initially broke that anchor loose.

    Ok
    As they said when melting the fume byproduct is CO2 and water vapor.
    Thise are two of effective fure extinguishers
    When you angle the flame away its able to feed on oxygen and the water vapor is directed away from flame

    Been thinking about how to solve the issue of using fiberglass on foam, it's a bit more expensive than painting but the result would be much stronger. Just saw a video from James Klafehn who made a whole foam trailer which he fiberglassed for strength and protection from the elements. Is the resin he using a different thing that is not eating through the foam? I'm not sure how this chemistry is working out how in some videos the resin is eating through the blue foam and other times it's not. Haven't seen a recent video on your foam cabinets but thought this might spark some more thought or understanding.

    I had to laugh at the interchange between you and the Brit who called the cello player an arse. I'm usually the one complaining about music in instructional videos, but not because I have something against the musician(s). It's because some TH-camrs (especially newer ones) feel so compelled to stuff as much in the way of bells and whistles into their videos that they forget they are trying to communicate. Too often the end result will be music levels that are so high it becomes difficult for people with hearing challenges to understand what they are saying. I usually leave a comment just to plant the idea in their head that people watching the video for the first time (unlike the creator, who has watched it perhaps dozens of times while editing) have not memorized what is being said and therefore aren't already bored with the content. So there's no need to zhoozh it up with music. Just relax let the actual content speak for itself.
    All that being said, I like your style. You've got a new subscriber in me.
