Appreciate the acknowledgment that how one feels about the character is ultimately subjective. At least a good third of this games cast is morally grey at best and its refreshing to see someone do better than lash out at the one character that they are least comfortable with (albeit not unreasonably so) as if they were the only questionnable one in the entire story. That being said picking favourites is sreally difficult, even 3 of them without ranking. By thinking really hard i can say with decent certainty that Huohuo and Welt are two of them, but no one stands out enough to earn the third place. Jing Yuan ? Yukong ? Fu Xuan ? Herta ? Screwllum ? Ruan Mei ? Acheron ? Firefly ? Sunday ? Tingyun/Fugue ? Too many candidates, nothing to set them apart.

None of the characters in Hoyo are all good or all bad (except Mavuika, it seems). And Hoyo intentionally shows mental disorders in its games (yes, not just in HSR). They even surveyed the gamers about noticing these and asking if they liked it. I love this about their games, because while it may be triggering sometimes, mostly it helps to simulate how you could cope with them, shows their diverse manifestations... You know, educates in an unconscious way, like with almost any topic they touch in their games. Sure, they leach off the last cent of some people, but at least they don't do ONLY that. 😊

i mean, as a Sunday liker, even lover, I'd probably hate him irl. And I'm sure many other Sunday fans would as well. It's really just people's perception of the reality of fictional characters. I'm just excited to see antagonists and find out how they became who they are. Because yes, meeting nice and sweet characters in game is nice but the excitement from meeting characters like Sunday is just bigger for me. That's all. Anyways love a proper analysis. ♡

So I think this is the first video of yours I've seen, which that's a wild way to step into it, yeah? That said, I found it fascinating. Especially the bit at the end where you mentioned "he's even a pianist" is kind of eerie coincidence, but I do agree with one major thing you said, which is that the narrative doesn't really address the biggest piece of wreckage he left behind him. Robin is clearly in a better place (going by her involvement in the Slumbernana Monkey plotline and the music festival), but she does basically serve to just quietly absolve her brother when she speaks to him. All her emotions are mostly about worrying about him, going out into an unfamiliar beyond and hoping he finds what he's looking for. It makes sense. They both clearly love and care for each other, but it does feel as if all her own issues were kind of swept under the rug for the purpose of not flagellating him further (though Sunday's very happy to do a bit of it to himself with all that thorns imagery). It feels unsatisfying for them not to address that even if I can see Sunday having reached a point where he can realize he did more harm than good and actively try to atone with the person he cares about most...but instead he just flees, feeling unworthy of making the attempt. It feels very awkward and like they didn't want to dig into it further in fear of maybe making him less marketable? Either way, it's something I do hope they address eventually, and I really appreciate you bringing up your experiences with regards to this, as it really helped me contextualize more of the story from an angle I hadn't considered. I'm really glad that this sort of thing helps you and hope that you do continue to feel more comfortable and happy with what you're doing going forward. That's always something that's a pleasure to see online from anyone, but especially from someone who's finding their way to rise out of previous difficulties.

I could imagine them going full circle and making the last tb physical again Adding another element is hard they would obviously need enemies that deal that dmg type a new status effect They can’t really add a water element bc then dhil would have to be changed to it bc imaginary units have animations that don’t fit with any other element I don’t think a geo type element really fits Maybe a plant type element could work and you could put spores as their status Although they could just not care and put any element they feel like like how they did for remembrance path using servants which so far are just killable versions of the summons we already have

I love this video, its often how I feel about Sunday. I love his character, but I don't love that some people in the fandom still have this view, that his whole plan of taking away people's freedom to choose is unquestionably right. When the narrative makes great lengths to show that this is not right, even using Firefly, someone with an existence with what is essentially a terminal condition telling Sunday that she doesnt want to be considered helpless and in need of someone taking away her choice just because she suffers in the first place. A lot of people overlooked that parallel to ableism in real life, and when I brought it up in fandom conversations, a lot of Sunday fans got really angry and defensive of their fave. Which is disappointing because acting like Sunday can do no wrong robs him of his complexity.

this was an amazing video!! it really gave me a whole new perspective on sunday. you are so brave for sharing a bit of your story, and I wish you the best going forward!! I am fairly new to HSR, and I don’t do this often, but I thought I’d share a bit of my thoughts, as sunday is one of my favorite characters: sunday is complicated in the sense that he is both selfless and selfish. he is selfless in that he just wants everyone to be happy, and is willing to sacrifice his own happiness for this very purpose, (from my understanding) but is selfish in how he doesn’t take other people’s criticisms of his philosophy and goals into consideration, so set on the idea he is doing this good, amazing thing, (this is most likely related to religious trauma, I’ve experienced something similar) blatantly ignoring the flaws with his thinking, building himself up to give him a sense of self-worth, probably because of the abuse and manipulation he has faced. now, I’m not saying the fact that he was abused gives him an excuse for what he has done, but I think it is important to acknowledge that, on the surface, sunday has good intentions. and that is what makes him such an interesting character to me! he believes he is doing good, and, if you look at it a certain way, he can be viewed as understandable, yet he is definitely aware of how much harm he is causing. he doesn’t stop and acknowledge it because he truly believes he is doing the right thing. essentially, his selflessness is what makes him selfish. with that being said, everyone is free to have their own personal opinion of him. your reluctance to like him is COMPLETELY valid. like I said, I’m fairly new to the game, so I may have missed some details that have caused me to interpret his story wrong, but I wanted to share because I thought this was a great video, and it made me reflect a lot on his character! <3 I’m probably going to edit this later, lol

Honestly, i'm inclined to believe we may get even more paths in the future, and then we might just get... element repeats? Maybe with the final trailblazer path being physical again for a nice sense of closure?

if each of those paths corresponds to each of those paths, and nihility doesn't have an element tied to it, then that'd mean the abundance would be the most tied to lightning. i'm curious what your opinion is on that

First and foremost I would like to thank you for this video as it had to be a very difficult experience for you. It gave me insight into some things about this character that I didn't notice. I have two things to note, although it probably doesn't matter to anyone but I will still write it because I can 😅 Firstly - Robin and Sunday are NOT twins. It's a metaphor used by Gopher Wood. Sunday is many times referred to as an older brother and I doubt it's because he was born 2 seconds before his sister. In every video where they are shown as kids, he is taller. It changes a lot actually because he feels responsible for Robin and he himself emphasises his role as an older brother who should clear a path for his sister to safely walk on. Despite trusting her, he is aware that there are things only he knows and he does want her to be freed from those burdens (This is from his answers to our questions on AE) Secondly - I don't agree with your opinion that Sunday controlled Robin and made her a singer. Robin wanted to be a singer from childhood. She wasn't pushed into that role by Sunday. Those scenes when he directs her first music video show his love and care for her, not that he wants to cage or control her. Why I do know that? Because, when they were children, Robin was told by her teacher that her singing was bad. Her brother built a stage for her to encourage her to sing and promised her she would realize her dream. He believed in her. This is why he is there with her while they record her music video, not because of some nefarious controlling need. Ofc, he is definitely making sure everything is precisely like it should be but not because he wants to cage her. In this particular video, he is helping her to realise her dream. The song she sings is based on a lullaby Sunday sang for her as well. The two siblings are later separated when Robin starts touring and they only communicate via letters. Robin has little knowledge of what her brother is going through and she later admits that she let herself fall into the role of a younger sister and didn't support her brother enough. Only after Sunday's downfall, did she realise he was excruciatingly lonely. He was clinging to memories of his sister for his dear life. She was the only good true thing in his life. Only after everything ends, Robin decides to finally take care of her brother and support him as he did for her earlier. We cannot forget that Robin was in fact the one who was free despite the that she had to deal with paparazzi but it is something popular people have to deal with. And again it's not because her brother made her do that. It allowed her to shape her opinions freely as she was meeting with people. Sunday on the other hand, was closed in a cage and used from the beginning as a puppet of the Order. He was walking in circles as he said himself and was unaware of it. Since childhood, he was subjected to the influence of order as well. He was the "chosen one", not Robin. It was Gopher Wood's plan from the beginning and it was clearly said. Everyone talks about the scene with Aventurine and I am fed up with it tbh. There is so much Sunday is going through at this point that most of us would go insane and he is still carrying on. I am not excusing him in any way, but I am trying to understand. Aventurine also is not the good guy here but nobody really thinks about it. And Sunday has his rights to see him as suspicious because it wasn't the Family who invited IPC but Gallagher. Of course, there is this scene where Sunday is wondering if he should stop his sister from singing because it's dangerous for her, but it is very human to do so, and not because he is mentally ill. After my father died when I was 16, my mother completely changed and became overprotective to the verge of toxicity. She was so afraid she could loose me too that she discouraged me from any outside activities which partially ruined my youth. Do I say she is a bad person? No, absolutely not. I understand her, and here I also understand Sunday. And lastly - Sunday trapping Robin in a dream is a thing, because she discovered that he trapped her because he changed the charmony dove story for one he thought his sister would prefer. Because he always thought he wasn't good for her and was a failure. It is heartbreaking tbh as she never viewed him this way. But I doubt she would lose her voice as the dream was supposed to be free of Aeons. Sunday would definitely make sure she can sing because it was her biggest dream and he helped her to realise it earlier. Let's not forget it was his promise WITH HIS SISTER that led to what he has done. He is extremely dedicated and loving. It saddens me that he is brought down to be a guy with mental illness. There is so much more to him than that. But it is just my opinion as well that you probably won't read anyway but I had to voice it out. Peace, and I hope we will have a good character development of Sunday in the story because he's the most interesting and well-written character imo.

20:18 EXACTLY. the fact that he thinks that he not only Knows what's better for others but also chooses that for them is just horrible. no matter how much i try to like him i just can't. he decides for who He thinks are "weak" without their consent it's not human at all

The description of Baiheng's reincarnation process has parallels to Ruan Mei's experiment on Tingyuan.

i dont like redemption arcs and i dont like classification of characters for abused and abusers. i dont like justifying characters actions. i dont like all this talk of "sunday is good/bad because". hes neither, because people are neither. we just are. we suffer the consequences of our own actions, we have aspirations and we make choices. my favorite characters from hsr are rappa and sunday because they feel human to me. because i could watch their story as a spectator and think that theyre similiar to me on the most primary field, just being a human and making sacrifices. rappa sacrificed perception of reality that most people would call normal and sunday sacrificed his own morality. thats why i subjectively like them, because subjectively, i want to be like them and do what im afraid of, making sacrifices whether they are worth it or not

honestly, i dont even know how or what to comment bc im pretty sure there is no part of myself, deeply buried, that wasnt touched in some way by this. well, you probably know that complicated feeling very well haha. so just. thank you for this video!! it is really very very good

Hoyo has a serious female problem. Not only is every genshin storyline saved by the male heros of that story arch like Capitano. People shit talk and mary sue the women for even being strong Then we get this. Stuck with this douche and not Fugue who has every reason to want to travel with us

No offense, but I genuinely just don't understand why people even like this guy. His personality is incredibly bland compared to characters like Sampo, Dr. Ratio, or Aventurine, and basically all he does is simps for his own sister. His role in the story is laughable lame; he just gets duped by Aventurine, exploited by the Order, and then beaten up by the main characters (wooow). I love his character design and was really hyped for him at the start of version 2, but he was just such a disappointment. If I'm missing something please let me know Sunday fans because I genuinely want to know what there is to look about this guy

Interesting analysis. I was ready to believe that Sunday can change for the better, but hearing someone who can relate to Robin's situation talk about it does make me think a little. The most valuable story tidbit we can glean is probably from Wonweek, the fraction of Sunday's personality that contained the things he was repressing, like a sense of humor, and the knowledge that he was being a control freak who deserves brutal honesty more than sympathy. I don't think he is beyond redemption, but after watching this, the road just got a bit longer.

I like the idea of nihility trailblazer having no element, but i think it's more likely that abundance trailblazer won't exist and nihility takes lightning because to me it's impossible that we'll ever align with Yaoshi (i get that we don't align with Nanook either but we literally have a part of them in us so thats justifiable), being an ally of the Xianqiu means we also oppose the abundance and the fact that they literally have a god killer project aimed at destroying the abundance makes it seem pretty unlikely for the trailblazer to resonate with Yaoshi.

The "fawn" emotion response. I thought it was a new emotion I can learn about. Turns out it's not and it is actually very, very relatable to me. So many times in my life I have been scared, but I couldn't stop smiling. I hate it The reason the whole Penacony and Sunday story feels so eerie for me, might be because of how religious it feels in a way. I haven't had the best experience with that and often I push away any family members that are religious because I feel in danger. Even if that specific person has never done anything to me. Also, where can I get the opportunity to be analysed based on my fav characters? That sounds very, very cool and I'd like to look more into it

I feels like , Him joining us for now feels too easy and somewhat forceful , since he himself say that he doesn't give up on his ideal just yet , but traveling with us in pursuit of broadening his horizon and try to find other ways he can achieve his ideal . I would love to see him joining up with IPC , because Jade is the one that help him and She too would see his potential and want to invest on him . IPC goal also seems to be aligned more with his ideal and more concrete than with trailblaze .

On another note, some of what you said about yourself made me think of Fugue - a character who also had her agency stolen from her, and her life irrevocably changed. In spite of this, Fugue similarly made peace with this and resolved to move forward, to make sure her future is shaped by her choices. Maybe that's why Hoyo introduced Fugue in this patch, to juxtapose her with Sunday. One who sought to take away other's agency with one who's agency was stolen. Ahh, now I wish there was an interaction between Fugue and Robin. I wonder if they would've found commonalities with each other.

i feel what you're saying about sunday oppressing robin with his perfectionism and his doubts that she's really safe living on her own, but it's important to acknowledge that despite his urge to keep her trapped and safe, he ultimately sacrificed his own freedom, becoming their mentor's successor, to guarantee that she could roam the universe and be who she wanted. being a singer after all is her own dream, even though she has to deal with the dark side of success. i'm really happy with how their story ended: robin finally managed to make him understand that what he percieves as humanity, flawed and weak, is just one side of it - the one made of broken people who seek refuge in dreams not to confront with life. and he then realizes that in order to see exactly what his sister means he has to travel and see the world outside the cage he created for himself

Ngl, as someone who loves both Aventurine and Sunday, I feel like you would enjoy PhantomHeit's analysis of Sunday's character. It feels like a counterpart to your analysis, with a bit more emphasis on Sunday's upbringing and a more sympathetic look at what made him the way he is? It's actually interesting seeing Sunday's character through the lens of his actions rather than his thought process, because it does magnify the damage he has caused and I think that's an important part of his character that many people miss. But it's also part of why I love him so much- yeah some things he's done are genuinely deplorable but understanding why he does those things really makes them seem like the most logical option sometimes. It's multifaceted characters like that that really get me, because they show us how there really is no clear line between a hero and villain.

Maybe because he was already in the game as an NPC, but it felt like there was less scorn directed his way when compared to new playable characters

This video is a fun watch. I don’t have a positive or negative feeling toward Sunday, and I feel the same way about all the characters in HSR. For me, Sunday is simply someone who has failed miserably and is now forced to submit to other people’s will (Jade and the Astral Express). His power, status, and authority are gone, and his change in personality reflects someone who has lost all of that, including its burdens. It’s our survival instinct to adapt to situations, so he can’t keep being who he used to be. With one less distraction or burden, there is more room to focus on other aspects of his life, like his sister, Robin. Like always, disasters tend to make you see what you failed to notice before
