As mentioned another Video Comment, My 2d Great Grandfather Wm Clarke (1812-1886) owned Clarke & Co. aka Clarke & King in the shadow of those guns at the Foot Of Henry St. (Ref: Baltimore City Directory 1865 pg 83). The Family lived just to the west on 36 Barre St off Light Street. I don't know what his politics where, but the gun in the photo could very well have fired on their home.

I went aboard the SS John W Brown August 1998 she was in port Charleston, South Carolina. I was a Perry Officer 1st Class aboard the USS South Carolina (CGN-37). The So Car's last port call before she was Decommissioned just a few months later. Sadly being a Nuke ship they had to cut her up. One must be a sailor to understand the attachment one get to their ship. But is wonderful to know that some ships survive the and are not lost to time.

I have some memorabilia from the old marble bar. Two spare Ampex gauges from the sound board and a chunk of marble that was in the back of the bar apparently removed from the bar years before. I gave the marble piece to my mother years ago she now uses it to roll out pie crust, although she knows where it came from and likes to tell the story that Fred Astaire may have danced on her piece of Baltimore history.

@@baltimoreheritage1006 Sorry I did get a chance to reply before now. I only recently discovered your 5 minute and have been working my way backward through them. I have enjoyed them very much, thank you. Some of the information will be helpful when write the Clarke Family narrative. Yes it is cool, I'm very proud of my Baltimore and Maryland heritage. I have been doing family research for many years. On my father's side we go back to at least around 1720 mostly PG County. However I believe they may even go back to the 1640s. The Baltimore City roots where planted in the 1840s. Some of them came up from King & Queen County VA. King & Queen County was a major trading partner with that area with Fright and passenger service to and from Baltimore. Maybe a future subject, Baltimore boat that carried fright and passages up and down the bay. Through My Family I'm connected to Baltimore Ship Building, the Baltimore And Ohio Telegraph (owned By the B&O RR), The Great Baltimore fire, Ship Building at Sparrows Point in WW I as well and many other events. I am a Retired US Navy Sailor and have not lived in Maryland for 34 years, but I still have a love for Maryland.

I have a 2d Great Uncle, William Clarke is buried there. He died in 1906, he was appointed as the Chief Inspector of Electrical wiring for the City of Baltimore in 1902. He was in poor health and died of exultation in 1906 as a result of being over work during the reconstruction after the great fire of 1904. His Wife Margret Smyth also buried along side Wm was a Major play in the Woman's Suffrage movement. She was the secretary for the Baltimore Woman's Suffrage Association in 1896 and then for Woman's Suffrage Association of Maryland in 1901.
